Now if that isn't the coolest thing. I just noticed it on the trips page today. I have no idea how long it's been there but it's cool as hell. How many of you other people haven't seen it?

I can't believe I didn't see it before. I searched the forum too and didn't find any threads on it. It's a great tool for the AT.

GPS coordinates for GSMNP
There is a site with GPS coord's and map pURL's to shelters and such along the AT in the GSMNP. visiit

The AT site has GPS data for shelters at

Appalachian Trail Distance Calc.
Hello all~!

Okay, perhaps I've been up too long or maybe my chemical balance is off kilter - but I cannot figure out the logic behind the "distance to shelter" calculations on the state by state pages... If you add up the distance from shelter to shelter it doesn't jibe with the distance from Springer Mtn. number... I mention Springer Mtn. because I was jotting down numbers on the Georgia page...

Please advise...

Some of the shelters are off on spur and side trails. That could account for some discrepancies.
