I don't know if this is good or bad but here it is:
a big land deal

seems like it might be a good deal - time will tell what they consider to be "sustainable forestry"

Wow, sounds pretty good on the surface! I wonder what Twiggie thinks.

It has the blessing of individuals and organizations that I support, and it's great when traditional shared use is continued.
(yes, even logging - I support jobs for people, I like moose watching, and I like soft TP :)

This deal basically keeps things the way they already are, except now the land is protected from development.

I sort of think that its a way for people to fight off the possibility of a national park in the area but .... what do I know

Bill would mandate canoe, kayak licenses

By Kevin Miller
BDN Staff
AUGUSTA, Maine — Like many Mainers, Marion Dunham relishes the chance to enjoy the peace and beauty of the region’s lakes from her kayak.
Dunham said she would even be willing to donate a few dollars more to help support the services provided by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. But change that voluntary donation into a mandatory canoe or kayak license and lawmakers have lost the Readfield resident’s support.

“I’m sorry, it’s a tax,” Dunham told state lawmakers on Tuesday.

For years, policymakers have struggled to find a way to generate more revenues from the significant portion of Mainers — not to mention tourists — who recreate outdoors but do not buy the licenses that provide the majority of DIF&W’s budget.

In New Hampshire you have to pay for a registration on all boats, including kayaks and canoes.

Ditto in Virginia and also taxed is every little POS trailer you might own. Not in Wisconsin, but here we get nailed by the balls to a white oak (prescribed by statute) with property tax. I could afford it had there been a decent Marijuana crop, but this year was only good for Poppy's.

It wouldn't surprise me to see NY pass a similar law, with how screwed we are with the budget. Currently you only need to pay a registration fee on a boat if it has a motor.

States running out of money to protect and maintain wild lands.... I can see how you'd find that funny XL.

I'm sure you'll barely be able to contain the hilarity if state parks and other facilities close their doors - I mean that's commie work isn't it.

LOL...Y2..I just wonder if they didn't have so much in entitlements if they might have more money for this stuff?

#&%!$ me XL. Do you actually think about anything you post...... actually there's no point in answering that as it's obvious you don't.

You don't even see the gaping contradictions in almost everything you post.....

Don't you claim to have a masters or something? I call BS.

Lumberzac, are you positive about the tax on canoes and kayaks in NH? I think that was proposed, but got blocked with the vote on NH Senate Bill 255.
