Very cool, is it not?

just remember you will need a small weight (rock, stick) to hold the foil lid on the pot (can) and a larger weight (rock heavier piece of gear, water bottle etc) to hold the top on the cozy so that it is on tight. As for the burner just fill it all the way up with alcohol - that should be enough for 1.75 cups of water even in the cold - if not or if using more water you may need to do a refill - if refilling make sure the burner is out - I usually check by seeing if I can feel any heat from the burner down to the point that I can touch the burner - if I can touch it its out. To start the alcohol with the Spark-lite hold it so that it is almost touching the surface of the burner.

Works great!
I guess that large piece of tinfoil was supposed to go UNDER the teacandle holder? Yep, I used shown matches to start the fire, wondered what that gawd awful smell was and WAHLAH! Flambay countertop! The hot chocolate I made is great though, and now that I think I have perfected the system, I am going to use it. I was out of electricity so the opportunity called to use it. Here is a photo as to how I came to the conclusion to use the tinfoil correctly.

Oh Crap Wolfie! ;-)

Don't use alcohol stoves indoors.
I try all mine on a sheet of aluminum on top of my outdoor gas grill.
That alcohol is too easy to spill and it will burn very well in a puddle on the countertop.

I noticed. LMFAO!

If one MUST try it indoors, put a pie pan on the regular kitchen stove top and put the alcohol stove in the pie pan to test.

Hey, I get a new countertop now. No electricity, I couldn't see, I was thirsty, had a little accident, it didn't burn down my apartment, and I will now get a new countertop. Another good thing is that when they replace the countertop, they have to give me a new dishwasher, too. The new countertops are cut for the bigger dishwashers. SO, it all worked out for me. WOW! A new countertop, dishwasher AND a new lamp...all to come very soon!

Sorry Wolf, that is just too funny...
I'm liking my Etoba stove from BBinkley. It rocks...
I tried it inside for the first time too... No damage though.
I put it in the stainless steel sink.
SS, ya got a pix of HOI's stove?

I'll have to take a pix of the Etowa stove I got,It is a dual stage jobber.
Thanks I love this stuff. I took my stove to our races last summer and made a few Enertia Spagetti dinners for our crew.
I can't wait to use it in the woods!
Is HOI selling the heinny stoves?

snafu - the system is so easy to make that almost anyone can make their own - all that is needed is a 24 ounce Heineken can that you chop the top off of one ring above the upper large ridge and even up the top with a small pair of sissors; some hardware cloth 1/2 inch squares 3 by 14 with the sides of square 15 used to secure the loop (loop just fits inside the depression in the bottom of the can - very stable IMO); one tea candle; two circles of pipewrap fiberglass insulation to fit in the tin from the tea candle (smoothest surface uppermost); two pieces of folded over foil - larger one goes under the tea candle alcohol burner and is sized to just fit into the can, the smaller foil piece is the lid for the can (hold on with small rock or stick while heating); a typical windscreen for the burner 3 inch high and sized so as to give .25 inch clearance around the can - I use a interlocking hook closure - material can be a disposable cooking pan, flashing, or even the sides of two soda cans crimped together (looks a little funny with a Code Red windscreen and a Heineken can pot); the cozy is made from a closed cell pad 7 inch by 12 inch with two 1.25 inch cuts on each long side each cut 1.75 inches from the center line - fold up the sides and bend the edges of the sides toward each other till they touch, warp with duck tape on the top to hold, push down on the bottom and trim the excess off the bottom, put three strips of duck tape across the bottom, finish with a loop of duck tape over the ends from the bottom to hold them in place; cut a separate piece of closed cell pad to be the top of the cozy (hold top on with rock while food is cooking in the ziplock in the cozy - note only boil water in the can then pour the water into the ziplock in the cozy - cozy is designed to hold the ziplock upright and open); ziplocks used are the cheapest 100 count to the box "reclosable" bags that are store branded - ie thin and cheap.

HAIL NO! I'm skeert...

Seriously, no. I will soon, though. Got Mother coming up from Florida this weekend so prolly won't be until next week. ALL those "lovely" things she has bought me over the last couple of years, I gotta find and put out so she thinks they are out all the time. I won't have time to cook. I will let you know when I do and God willing, I won't be posting a picture of a burnt down front porch. LOL!

do what I do for trying out the cozy - microwave the water in a measuring cup then just pour the water into the ziplock that is in the cozy with the meal; zip it up put the top on shake (ie stir) and let sit for 15-30 minutes (depends on meal macaroni takes 30 minutes, typical liptons takes 15-20); since I hate washing dishes this works well for me
Hog On Ice

I used HOI's cozy to cook a Lipton Rice Sides Chicken flavored meal yesterday.
I put a ziplock bag into HOI's cozy, poured the Lipton package into the ziplock.
Boiled two cups of water with a little olive oil in it, then poured the boiling water into the cosyed ziplock.
Stirred and sat the cosy top on and waited 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, opened the cosy, rolled the ziplock down and dug in. It was still to hot to eat. Had to let it cool.
Man, I love boil water, pour in bag meals! No simmering needed with the cozy!

I was thinking of making one of those cozys, but making it out of the aluminized stuff that they're using for car sunshields. It has some thickness to it, and if you put the shiny side it, it should radiate the heat back into the food.

Another couple of questions:

Is that hardware cloth available at Home Depot or Lowe's, or do I have to go someplace special like a welding shop to get it?

What kind of foam is he using in that tea candle stove to wick the alcohol? Is that fiberglass?
bitpusher

Yes. And yes.
Father Goose

bit - I made one of those from the car windshield stuff. It's way thinner (1/8", dollar store reflector) than HOI's foam pad cozy (1/2") and will not hold the heat in as well, but does fold up a lot better.
I was going to get some reflextex (spelling??) from Lowes and try a few cozys from it but the smallest size was about 2 by 50 feet or so and cost $25. That is what antigravitygear makes their cozys from. It's much thicker insulation than my dollar store crap.

I gotta get a roll anyway, I'm going to staple some up in my carport to the damn skwerls out of the soffit spaces. But thanks.

So was that yes to "Can I get it at Home Depot or Lowe's?", or yes to "Do I have to go to a welding shop?"?

oh boy..
another project..I \'m glad I had a friend buy up all the flat bottomed (pleated) zip locks she could find last year..the fleece cozy with it\'s plastic bottom I made, while flat, doesn\'t give much support..besides, it takes FOREVER for the food to cool down enough to eat..pluses: I can drop my alcohol stove in the cozy and stuff it in my ti cup along with the roof flashing windscreen I made..

mata - I don't see then, must just be you. ;-)

bit - a real hardware store will sell the hardware cloth by the running foot rather than by the roll at Lowes.
I think HOI got his cans at a gas station in VA. I havn't seen any here in MS either.

I would be MORE than happy to help out with the Heinhy cans. They are everwhere up here, just let me know. I would send them empty, of course. :)

I've got a hardware shop near me that sells tat same material that Anti-Gravity uses to make there cozys. Cheap too. It's a buck for a 1' by 4' run.
