A broken, shattered mind I take, hopefully to emerge, alive and whole. to be me again is what I seek, and nothing more. I will vomit the poison from my soul and no more be troubled by the hauntings of doubt. Loss is something that is in my mind, but there was nothing really to loose as I never really possessed that which I thought I lost. Off to the Bend to hear God's voice on the whispering edge of all that is. too many times this year I have forgotten what that sound means to me. I intend to become reacquainted with it and emerse myself so that I may wash my soul. Thanks C.” 9:51:15 AM 12/23/04 “stumpy, be safe driving, Lord knows you need all the help you can get. have a great trip” 10:08:22 AM 12/23/04 Ja Mon!... “your mouth to God's ears. Happy everything Ewker!” 10:10:47 AM 12/23/04 Mr Mozark!!! “Hope to see you way down in Texas.” 10:21:37 PM 12/23/04 An old thread comes back to life... “Well...another year in the Bend. This makes #4. It doesn't get old, in fact it is as new this go round as it has been on the previous 3. The only participants this year were myself and Jeff. We did the Outer Mountain Loop. One of the toughest hikes anywhere, definetly in Texas. 32 miles of sheer exhaustive beauty. Water was cached in 2 places spaced every 10 miles, plus we hit up a creek on mile 17. I carried way too much water in my pack, but one can never be too prepared in the Big Bend...3 weeks earlier a dude died because he didn't take enough water on this hike...that was not going to be the case for Jeff or myself. We did the trek in 4 days and 3 nights. It began to rain on the last night down low and that meant SNOW up in the Chisos Mtns...8" of desert snow...it was amazing!!! Jeff and I blew the 4th night under the stars off so that our gear would stay dry and the boots not frozen. We headed to the Basin Lodge hoping to acquire a room...no luck...we had dinner with 2 dudes that we got to know on the trail over the 4 days of hiking...the we blew to Study Butte. We stayed there 3 nights and hung out with friends that we know down there on the day after the hike, giving us time to recover. We day hiked Cat Tail Falls and Grapevine Hills the following day, the hit LaKiva on NYE. began the long drive home on NYD. Brad, Dave...you guys were missed. Next year...rather this year...is already in the planning stages. Can't wait...350 days to go. Happy New Year!!!” 7:21:59 PM 1/05/07 << back to Return to Big Bend page
