Goto Trip Page: Ithaca, New York - Gorge And Waterfalls

Hey, Baltimore has some excellent rats!

But since Killer and I are going to Gaspe' first and finishing our road trip in Itaca, we will be at a distinct dis-dvantage.

You mooks can bring something that you prepared at home where I will have to truely cook it at camp.

Damn you all!

Maybe we can catch some swamp rats up in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and keep 'em on ice until we get to Ithaca.

Squirrels...squirrels are the way to go!

Since only outsiders can be judges, I truly want to be the "Official Tastetaster of Ithaca 2004." Except for Bit's entry. He can keep his possums all to hisself.

All this food talk... is anybody going to be hiking to the fabulous gorges and waterfalls?

Good stuff is multiplying. I am back on Tango's good side and when I was in church tonight, I did NOT get struck down by lightning. There's hope for me afterall. However, the Bishop did give me a dirty look when I got too close to the altar trying to get a good shot of my newphew who was being Confirmed.

Fiona Apple, eh Scorchy? We went to the same school so I might know more about her than you think.

Pennsy, I am gathering lots of info on a multitude of great day hikes for the area. There's so much to do, I am having problems limiting it down to three days worth.

Hey MarkO, if you stop by my place on your way through, you can take that woodchuck that lives under my rosebushes to the cook off - I even have a recipe for ya!

Taughannock SP has a 215 footer that is 33' higher than Niagra. I want to stand at the bottom of it and let the water douse me (if they will let me)...

...and assuming it doesn't crush me!

Treebeard - I have a photo book that inludes Taughannock Falls. I really want to see that one. Plus Watkins Glen, and so much more.

Yeah, Penns. Taughannock and WG are # 1 and 2 on the list. There is also Cayuga trail that goes through the gorge at Cornell. I did that one (or at least part of it) about 25 years ago and remember that it was absolutely beautiful...

Woodchuck surprise on the menu, Twigstah?

TB - dang, we might have to extend this trip to get to all these hot spots. You might have to make all these meals "to go."

May-be! There's also Buttermilk Falls, which sounds nice. Here's a snippet of the brochure:

Dropping from 1,000 to 400 feet avove sea level, Buttermilk Falls State Park surrounds Buttermilk Creek as it plunges through a gorge down the eastern slope of the Cayuga Valley at the southern edge of the City of Ithaca. At the end of its lovely journey, the stream reaches its scenic climax in Buttermilk Falls. BM Falls was born 12,000 years ago after the most recent continental glacier of the ice age had melted from the central NY landscape. Glaciers carved the steep walled valley that is now partially filled with Cayuga Lake...

Sounds nice, doesn't it?

Buttermilk does sound nice and I have that pic in my book as well. I think it might get crouded though as there is a public beach at the base of the falls.

The book I'm looking at is called "Waterfalls and Gorges of the Finger Lakes" by Derek Doeffinger. If you want to borrow it to help plan the hikes, I'd be glad to send it to you.
