“Ham hocks (or hog jowls), black eyed peas and collards? Sounds like good eatin' to me...I'm not a big fan of collards, but if you put a little hot sauce on them, and take a bite with the blackeyes, they're edible.

“Well, hog jowls and blackeyes are sort of a traditional New Year's Day "good luck food" down here. The collards usually get cooked too...like I said I'm no fan of collards, but I occaisionally take a taste to remind myself why I hate them. Who knows, I used to hate broccoli too and I love it now, maybe I'll learn to love collards.

Or were you talking about the cornbread? Many Southern cooks sweeten their cornbread, but I prefer mine sour, it's delicious! My mom's mom is from Missouri so that might explain the lack of sugar in the cornbread.”
