OK, the wife in on board. The only thing that will keep her away is if she is pregnant. If that happens, I will take her place in the cook-off.

Okay, I can see it now. He gets the wife pregnant, loses the cookoff, then spends the next year telling us she would have won if she hadn't gotten pregnant.

Then what's he gonna tell the kid? "Mom would have won the cookoff if not for you!"

even if she gets preggers ASAP, why cant she go camping?

or do you prefer them preggers and barefoot in the kitchen?

Geo
How about oxtails and Great Northern Beans?
MarkO
11:54:31 AM
2/05/04

Ham hocks (or hog jowls), black eyed peas and collards? Sounds like good eatin' to me...I'm not a big fan of collards, but if you put a little hot sauce on them, and take a bite with the blackeyes, they're edible.

Oooh, add some good sour buttermilk cornbread too...yum...

bitpusher, where the hell did you ever eat something like that?

Ya don't know what you're missin', mapleleaf...mmmmmm
bitpusher
11:59:56 AM
2/05/04

Well, hog jowls and blackeyes are sort of a traditional New Year's Day "good luck food" down here. The collards usually get cooked too...like I said I'm no fan of collards, but I occaisionally take a taste to remind myself why I hate them. Who knows, I used to hate broccoli too and I love it now, maybe I'll learn to love collards.

Or were you talking about the cornbread? Many Southern cooks sweeten their cornbread, but I prefer mine sour, it's delicious! My mom's mom is from Missouri so that might explain the lack of sugar in the cornbread.
bitpusher
12:03:26 PM
2/05/04

Damn, I just ate lunch and I'm making myself hungry again...I gotta get me a pressure cooker so I can make blackeyes the way my mom used to...

please dont take it personal.

All right, Jethro! You comin' up from Alabamee or not?
Treebeard
12:07:21 PM
2/05/04

Damn, mapleleaf, have you never had a blackeyed pea? They don't give you gas, or at least they don't give me gas.

Now if it were pintos, collards, and cornbread, then watch out!

I'm thinkin' about it, treebeard...it's a long way off still, and a lot can happen in that time.
bitpusher

Massive Gassive !?!?!?
That does it, I'm doin' one of my bean creations!

Be afraid!!!
MarkO

Geobeet
12:17:57 PM

This thread reminded me to submit the Vacation form here at work for those 2 days off....
They're NOT available at this time....
I was denied!
I will write a post-it note and keep trying weekly.
Chances are, they will become available as time goes people swap dates.
Keepin my fingers crossed...
If I don't get it off as vacation, then I might have a cold that day...
I really wanna go!!!
