I guess it better he asked that question then one like:
"Hey, does the place this trip is at allow blow-up Hickers?"

That would have innuendo written all over it...LOL

Do we each need to reserve a site or are we getting a big section?
Will there be limits on sites or persons ....
I'm not worried about the fee or anything, I just wanna have a great time.....

Great news, Tango! Glad to have tyou on board. You too, WK. Geo, I don't know about you and Mark. j/k

Anyhow, this is shaping up nicely at this early date. Now, as far as reserving sites:

there are a few options. The original info is for Taughannock State Park. The sites are 13 dollars a night and include two tents and two vehicles/site. The other park is Trehman State Park and both are within about 20 miles of each other. The waterfalls and other offerings are described on the trip page, so why don't you guys look them overe and give a preference to either one. Tomorrow, I will call in the A.M. to get the rates for Trehman park. The day hikes are a go either way. Watkins Glen is also nearby as is Buttermilk Falls. Let me make a call in the morning and I will post you the results. I will also inquire about group rates.
Treebeard

Group rates would be the snizzit. Or something like a snizzit, not necessarily exactly a snizzit.
Geobeet

Ok, folks. Got the lowdown:

Whether we stay at Trehman or Taughannock is pretty much irrelevant, as the places we want to visit for day trips are all close together. Trehman is my choice for the following reasons. Trehman has a 40 mile lake with more hiking trails than Taughannock does. It is 5 miles out of Ithaca and is within 15 miles of Taughannock, 1-3 miles from Buttermilk Falls, and within a half hour of Watkins Glen. These are all places I would love to go with the group. Cornell University is there too and that has a beautiful gorge running right through it. The rates are the same as Taughannock:

13/night includes up to 6 people, two tents and 2 vehicles. No group rates , but that is reasonable to me. Sites 20 through 23 are shady, grassy and within walking distance of facilities (for all us old bastards). The beauty of it is, we can stay theree and visit all these other places nearby. Taughannock has music on Saturday nights and mucho wineries all around it. So, let's start getting a count ASAP, ok?

ummm geo, I have seen the things you bring on car camping trips, you may need 2 sites each

Area above is the grassy, shady one near the facilities I was talking about. Hey, if Nigal comes along, he won't have far to go to waddle all the way to the rest room with his pants around his ankles!

Treebeard

I assume the blue icons are trailer sites. 25-34 would be tent sites and relatively contiguous.
Geobeet

but they are right next to the parking lot, not really into hearing cars go in and out all the time.
mapleleaf

Another thought tree, given the number of people who seem interested, would be the availability of a group site (or sites).

Quick count

Geo - 2
Tree/Maple -1
MarkO - 1
WK -1
Screechy - 1
Snafu - 1
Tango - 1

That's eight with just the ones who said they are definites. Now, I don't know if anyone plans on doubling up. That would be okay too. But, we may end up needing up 15 sites for this, I would think.

what about 25 thru 34?
mapleleaf
9:51:21 AM

Ok, I just called back and the lady said that loop 4 would get more foot traffic of people going to the bathrooms than loop three. I questioned being close to the parking lot, but she said that there is hardly any traffic, mostly turnarounds right there and that it is not used much for traffic. She said loop three would be our best bet, so i am inclned to lean that way...
Treebeard

I would think that we should reserve sites 20 - 32. That's my judgment at this point in time...
Treebeard

BTW, the symbols don't mean that trialers only are allowed on those sites that designate it. They accomodate from tents on up. that would also answer someone's question about a pop up...

Update
Sites 29, 31, 34, 35, 36, 37 through 45 are all available for those dates. Site 38 and up bleeds over into loop 4, but still close enough to make this viable and keep us somewhat together. Now, I need to know how we want to handle reservations. Supposedly, i can make reservations up to six sites without getting hassled by Reservations America. Do you guys want to handle the sites individually (some are going to have to, because I can only reserve so many) or do you want me to get the initial six?

I booked site # 32 for the Trees. I am going to have to ask that you folks that are going to book a site on line with Reservations America. The link is within the one I provided above that says 'campground'. I would put more on my credit card, but they don't take Amex and I have very little room on the others I have. The sites listed in an above post are available. Please scarf them up on a first come-first serve basis.

If you can swing reserving six sites tree, go ahead. What is the cost to reserve?
Geobeet
11:12:01 AM
2/06/04

It cost 48 dollars even (includes a 9 dollar reservation fee) for the three night. It's a two night minimum. Unfortunately, Geo, they don't take Amex and I have no credit for all that moolah on my other cards...

I still have to talk to the wife, and she's in bed sick (and asleep) right now, so it will have to wait. As far as needing a site that will take a pop-up, I won't know if I will need a camper site until I actually get the pop-up, lol...

I'll have to wait also, to reserve. I will be tenting it so doesn't matter to me...hell, I'll hang out with strangers if I need to! (oh, wait, I'm already going to be doing that)

Seems I have all my money tied up in patches right now...

I want to go on this but I am not sure of my kids' activity schedules yet. What sites are picked up yet, we should keep a running tally online so people reserving will know which sites to take next.
