I have from July 6 to July 22 off!!! That is totally going to ROCK!!!” 9:30:04 PM 6/23/04 “I can't wait for this trip. I haven't been on a huge car camping trip since..... wait a minute... since ever! I only usually car camp with a handful of people.” 9:31:25 PM 6/23/04 “Ithaca this... Ithaca that...” 9:31:50 PM 6/23/04 “Scorchy? You only usually car camp with a handful of people? You either have small friends or mighty big hands.” 9:35:42 PM 6/23/04 “SHep, just trying to see if I could get lucky with a ride for TD. Unrfortunately, his location doesn't seem to collide with the paths of you folks that are travelling up from the south. When you get up towards Philly and head north, I-81 looks like a good route for you. Check it out on a map and see if it makes sense to you. Well, we are heading out to the Daks for a canoe/ecamping trip on Lake Saranac until Sunday. Have a great weekend, youse guys! Will have some picsw and TR on Monday...” 10:50:24 PM 6/23/04 “with all the stuff you guys are bringing how will it ever fit into your cars/trucks/van/u-haul/tractor trailer I would like to see y'alls gear list” 11:12:34 PM 6/23/04 “Beer, beer, more beer.” 11:13:29 PM 6/23/04 “BTW, there is now a chance I might make this trip. If I do show up it will probably be unannouced. Will I have a place to crash if I make it?” 11:15:35 PM 6/23/04 “We'll be able to stash you somewhere” 11:18:35 PM 6/23/04 “Bring it on, Ewker! I think snafu or somebody was talkin' about bringin' a dormatory tent.” 7:40:40 AM 6/24/04 “"I have from July 6 to July 22 off!!! That is totally going to ROCK!!!" Tango Tango, Seeing your free. I MIGHT be looking for a adventure partner to go NY city from the 10th-12th,(hopfully meet up with tree and maple) I have Yankee tickets already and a hotel room reserved. Also you could hang with me for the mid-week 13th-15 in upstate NY (I may go up to Old forge area) and then head to Ithaca Thursday morning for the PARTY! Whadda think?” 7:57:04 AM 6/24/04 I GOT A QUESTION ?????? “Where has Maple been ? I hope she is OK? I have not seen her post in awhile.” 7:58:43 AM 6/24/04 “Whoa ! !” 8:01:24 AM 6/24/04 Mark O “The GF/XGF's mom had the big tent. It's not looking good for her coming with me. I have a new 10x10 coleman. Fits 3-4 peeps. unless you stack them 2 or 3 high you can get 6-8 or 9-12 peeps.” 8:03:45 AM 6/24/04 “For those traveling via I-95 from the south, take I-476 south of Philly and stay on it. It becomes the Northeast extension of the Pa. Turnpike (toll). It goes to Scranton, where there are exits onto I-81. The turnpike may not exit directly onto I-81, but there are signs directing you to it.” 8:43:12 AM 6/24/04 “lets roll...so scorch what if i go thursday night...thinkin about it...dunno where i could stay for free on the way though... would sure cut the drive on friday in half” 7:17:08 PM 6/24/04 “Or you can get on I-83 at Baltimore and pick up I-81 at Harrisburg (this way is free). Either way, I-81 is a far better road in the Northeast than I-95. I-95 is severly plagued by city and suburban traffic north of DC... Also, there's a huge chunk of I-95 in NJ that's not completed between Trenton and New Brunswick and finding the other side can be tricky. If you go this way, you should get on the NJ Turnpike from Delaware...” 7:27:30 PM 6/24/04 “how about i just slip on my rocket pack and zip on up instead of driving” 9:07:37 PM 6/24/04 “My puter has been in the shop. Ethernet port is broken. I got it back today and will be on ewwwww--dial up till I leave for Ithaca. Snafu, I will check on that plan, sounds cool to me. Do you snore? I am trying to fit in a visit to a friend Delanson. Do you know where that is?” 9:31:20 PM 6/24/04 “i dont snore ...does anyone near me snore? ill kick your ass if youwake me up...of course i sleep so hard that i would be the last person to notice ...” 9:54:31 PM 6/24/04 “I snore when I drink heavily. How do you think I got my name?” 9:57:26 PM 6/24/04 “well if you snore loud enough to wake me up i will kick your ass...however that also comes with the warning that i Will be sleeping a little heavier than usual thanks to some personal medicine i will be taking at the time...” 10:04:32 PM 6/24/04 “The kind that comes in the brown glass bottles?” 10:06:03 PM 6/24/04 “snafu - The Tree Family is on vacation in the Daks. shep - if you leave Thurs night, you're more than welcome to stay at mi casa. But I do have work til 5PM on Fri. I am going to leave at 3PM though and get home by 3:45ish or so.” 11:41:19 PM 6/24/04 “"10-1 shep doesn't come!" ScorchFire 02:49:27 PM 03/22/04 hey scorch what exactly was the sexual value of this bet??? just wondering if marko is gonna actually have a chance to sleep” 12:21:09 PM 6/26/04 “ya perv” 10:14:44 PM 6/26/04 “Huh??? What, no hits for two days?” 8:54:58 AM 6/28/04 “I threw a haymaker but I missed.” 8:56:57 AM 6/28/04 “"hey scorch what exactly was the sexual value of this bet??? just wondering if marko is gonna actually have a chance to sleep" shep Just what the hell have you all got planned?” 9:08:51 AM 6/28/04 “Going to start posting a few ideas for hiking trails that are doable by 30 some-odd bodies that are still a bit pickled with alcohol from the night before: TAUGHANNOCK FALLS Taughannock Falls are the highest in the northeastern United States. At 215 feet, these falls are even higher than Niagara Falls, and are known for their beauty and power. The cliffs are another 100 feet higher than the fall. It has a carved out ampitheater. From a former railroad (now pedestrian) bridge upstream, you can see another fall. The streambed is limestone, pitted by chemical action, it resembles a squashed waffle. The falls have created a narrow gorge, whose must-see hiking trail is part of a five-mile network of hiking trails at Taughannock. Swimming, boating, camping and fishing are all popular from spring to early fall. The park is especially beautiful during fall foliage season. During winter, visitors enjoy snow shoeing, cross-country skiing and ice-skating. The state park is on Cayuga Lake off Route 89, eight miles north of Ithaca. CAYUGA TRAIL Stewart Avenue (above Ithaca Falls) Ithaca Distance: Seven miles Uses: Hiking/Skiing Only Rated: Easy/Moderate Notes: Blazed Orange The Cayuga Trail follows Fall Creek through the campus of Cornell University, the Cornell Plantations and Cornell Natural Area at Monkey Run. heading Eastward, the trail becomes more challenging and quite scenic. Trail sections through the Cornell Campus follow sidewalks and paved roads. Elsewhere, the trail is narrow wirth a dirt surface and can get wet and muddy, depending upon the weather. ABBOTT LOOP Michigan Hollow Road, Danby Distance: 7.5 miles Uses: Hike/Ski Only Rated: Easy/Moderate Located entirely within the Danby State Forest, Abbott Loop is the latest addition to the Finger Lakes Trail System. The trail offers wonderful scenery and a true wilderness experience. The narrow earthen trail is especially variable in character with steep climbs and descents. WATKINS GLEN Watkins Glen Link The oldest and most heavily visited of the state parks with gorges, its main feature is a deep, narrow, winding gorge with stone walls, trails and bridges. It's asteep climb if you start at the bottom. Unlike many of the gorges, this one has no large waterfalls within the park. Instead, there are some small ones and numerous cascades twisting through the rock. There is also Havana Glen right near Watkins Glen. I was thinking of coupling them if time permits. Here's a link to some interesting stuff also. Cornell BUTTERMILK FALLS Buttermilk Falls LOWER FALLS AT TREMAN STATE PARK This is where we will be staying. The fall cascades into a swimming pool. I intend to go here on the first day. It's right there, so we can always go back. Two hours round trip through the gorge with major waterfalls at both the upper and lower sections of the park. Trail at upper endmore picturesque, as it goes down the middle of the gorge. FILLMORE GLEN Has two main falls at opposite ends of the park. Pictures look very colorful and the gorge is beautiful. The upper falls is about two miles uphill on a good trail (or about a quarter mile downhill from the upper turnaround)” 2:08:27 PM 6/28/04 “Tree, AWWWWWWWWESOME! They all sound wicked cool!!!” 2:16:45 PM 6/28/04 “They're gonna make us HIKE?????!!!!” 2:22:50 PM 6/28/04 “Weeeeeee” 2:26:51 PM 6/28/04 “Yeah, Treebeard wants us all out hiking while he is cooking his own thing and sabotaging our stuff.” 2:33:08 PM 6/28/04 “I can't wait to get into Watkins Glen. Should be a delight to the geologist part of me.” 2:55:44 PM 6/28/04 “Ifn' ya can't hike with a hangover, yer not a hiker!” 2:56:19 PM 6/28/04 “So I should bring my camera then.” 2:56:31 PM 6/28/04 “LZ, your camera will do well up there. Judging by some of the pics you've taken of rushing water, I'd say you are going to get some beauties in Ithaca!” 3:03:04 PM 6/28/04 “Whoo Hoo! BRING ON THE OVERCAST SKYS!” 3:04:12 PM 6/28/04 “"...Should be a delight to the geologist part of me." Geobeet 02:55:44 PM You mean the fossil part of you?” 3:06:14 PM 6/28/04 “That part too. There oughta be a few critters hanging out in all that rock.” 3:20:40 PM 6/28/04 “Dang boy, I was tryin' to insult you there and it went awry!” 3:24:23 PM 6/28/04 WOO HOOO!!!!! “I have 5 more work days then VACATION!!!!” 5:39:03 PM 6/28/04 “"Whoo Hoo! BRING ON THE OVERCAST SKYS!" Lumberzac Thanks, Treebeard. Now see what you did? ;)” 6:24:22 PM 6/28/04 “im ready...should i start packing now or wait until the day after the fourth...???” 7:28:30 PM 6/28/04 “packing now? you're weird. shep, are u coming up thurs and staying here or just coming fri?” 9:39:42 PM 6/28/04 “dunno ...i could leave thursday after work but no way would i make it to PA without sleep...i was kinda thinkin about sleepin in the ol hammock or maybe just n the truck even and finishing up the trip on friday” 9:55:04 PM 6/28/04 “there ya go... good idear” 9:55:53 PM 6/28/04 Bump... “Seems everyone is using the cook-off link instead.
