we need to keep the calls to the park to a min. there was a prob once before when a tt trip and everyone and his mother was calling. the rangers had a big prob with that one. anyone remeber that?

The park is actually on rt 327 near rt 13. Rt 327 is small and won't appear on most maps. Follow above directions...

Those directions jive with the topo map. I was wondering whether there was access from the south end. Apparently not. Gotta move my waypoint.

Don't worry about the park rangers Mapes, I'm sure someone has emailed them the link to this thread.

I heard the governor has called out the National Guard.

More Directions
If you're coming up 95 from the far south, you should look for a way to cross over to I-81 by Washington, DC or as soon as possible thereafter. I-81 is a much better road for north/south travel in the Northeast, as I-95 north of Washington DC is plagued with the most horrible traffic imaginable.

Also, of interest to anyone coming from points far west, NY-17 is in the process of being converted to I-86, and could be labelled either way, or both, depending on whether a given section has already been converted or not. I believe most of the road west of Elmira, NY, has already been changed to I-86 and is posted so.

We seem to be getting towards the point where everyone (except Shep and Scorchy) know where theyare going! j/k

Seriously. Shep, if you would like, I could try to map something out with AAA for you. Please tell me exactly where you are coming from and I will map out specific deirections for you, if need be.

Mapquest directions eat $hit!

For those coming from south of DC and Baltimore, MarkO's suggestion works. Take the Balmer Beltway around Balmer and take I-83 north to I-81 (near Harrisburg, Pa.), then take I-81 north.

For those taking Route 17/I-86 west from Binghamton, take Route 96 north from the village of Owego.

Route 96 bears left in the village of Candor, while the route straight ahead becomes Route 96B. Route 96 follows valleys to the park, while Route 96B goes almost directly to Ithaca.

Just checked the PennDOT and NYDOT websites. There are construction projects along I-81, but should be no major delays. No projects listed for the state roads from Binghamton west on 17 or north on 96.

I tried several ways to get Mapquest and Yahoo to give logical directions, and even using intermediate points, the directions they give are roundabout, and sometimes on secondary roads rather than primary roads.

mapleleaf

Don't do it TD. She'll just squander the money on kayaks, and you'd be an enabler.

That's what you say now, but after you get your hot little hands on the money, it will be off to the nearest kayak shop, where they know you by your first name.

Just what the heck is a "scrochie"? Is this something new for pulling back your hair, or is someone misspelling again?

I think we lost the Y chromosome of my group, since job deadlines are encroaching. So it looks like just me and my tender little chillins. We will arrive sometime early in the evening Thursday. I hope that Allison will be there waiting for her pals.

Thanks, Geo! You posted the very reason I picked this place. I got goose bumps just looking at that! The Daks and the Cats have a certain majestic beauty that's characteristic of Eastern New York State. But, the Finger Lakes region has a different, majestic beauty all its own. This is going to be wonderful!
