Ok, loop 4 has all sites (38 through 56) available. We can have the whole thing to ourselves if need be. And the rain isn't a factor on any of these, according to the information provided. Is this acceptable, people? I want to make a call and change mine, so let me hear some feedback, ok?

This is what to do!
Go to first page where the map of the campground is. Select loop 4. It will give you a diagram of sites 38 to 56. Select any site and click for reservations. It will link you to reserve america. The cost for the 3 nights including reservation fee is 48 dollars. That will do it!

Okay Thursday night through Sunday day July 15-18. Right? I think that we should be able to do this. I just have to call up the campground and get the site measurements, groundwater stats, soil core samples, bug data and secret handshake. Then I will need to psychically pinpoint which site is the best. Let me know what site the Geobeet family reserves, please.

Lyndy
We will let you know when Geo bags his site(s). It is Thursday to Sunday and we are in loop 4, sites 38 to 56. WK has 41 and I have 40, so far. If you click on the campsite link a few pages back, you will get into the site availability section. Sign up with ReserveAmerica and book it through them. There is also a profile of each site. It may not have the actual square footage, but it will give you a rough idea of the site...

Day Hikes
Received some maps and information of the Finger Lakes region and the Ithaca area. There is lots to see up there and I fear we will have to choose from more hikes than we could get in to a three day period. One in particular I would like to do is the Cayuga Trail. It's about 6-7 miles and is an easy to moderate loop. Part of it goes right through Cornell University. The rest is gorges, waterfalls and the like and gets really scenic in parts. I did most of this trail, but that was about 25 years ago. So, I don't remember much, except that I remember the scenery being breathtaking!

In Taughannock Park, there is a gorge trail, 2 rim trails and overlook to the Falls that totals about 6 miles. The Falls in Taughannock SP are about 215 ft (33' higher than Niagra) and can be seen from a few different points along the way.

There's also Buttermilk Falls nearby Treman. It also has a gorge trail, rim trail, bear, larch and lake trails all totaling about 5-6 miles.

Then, there's Watkins Glen. They were out of those brochures, so I am trying to get my hands on some of those.

These are just some of the things to do up there. There's more, and we can discuss this stuff as we get closer to July. Oh, and I can't forget the kayaking. Maple is bringing one from the fleet. There are rentals available too.

No prob, Tango. I really want this trip to be a memorable one. I see great potential here.

Having trouble finding web pages that I can link to that are really useful. It seems you have to subscribe to a lot of the good ones. :(
Here's one that has a few things on it:

Now, if you look at the picture from Robert Treman Park, you will see some folks in bathing suits at the bottom of the waterfall. That is where you will find me! I want to do that on a sunny day. Just bask in that! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Watkins Glen is nothing short of spectacular. Above all others, we have to do Watkins Glen.

Taughannock Falls is also nice. It is a thin ribbon of a waterfall, much like Yellowstone in appearance.

Yeah, Geo! Watkins Glen is of major interest to me. I want to get the brochures and maps from there so I know where to go. Unless you already know where to go...

If we are having a relatively large group, may I make a suggestion? Last year we all hung out at George's site, and he packed up his tent each morning, and pitched it each night. Many campsites were too small to pitch a tent and use the campfire pit )too close together)

What if we all pitched in $7 additional and had one site as the gathering and campfire site? We could put up a tarp, put all our chairs there, bring food for sharing, and this way not interfere with anyone's personal site. Whadyuthink?

There has never been a shortage of people willing to tell me where to go.

In Watkins Glen, you start out at the bottom and climb to the top, then return to the bottom. There are two directions: up and down. Unless you bring technical climbing equipment, there is nowhere else to turn. It is a canyon in the strictest sense, with nearly sheer walls on both sides.

There are lots of waterfalls of all sizes, if my memory is anywhere near correct.

My husband and I walked the canyon last July and it was great. Many waterfalls, and you even can walk behind one or two of them, and get a little wet (get your ladies to wear white!). There is a bathroom/rest area at the top, with soft drinks, before starting back down again.

Okay I am a little confused. Every other site is unshaded and yet the map shows them being on only one side of the road. Did they plant one tree for every two sites?

Reserve America is showing site 43 as still being available. I was thinking of reserving sites two sites that are shaded so may not take ones right next to each other, one being for the whole group. What do you think?
LyndyS

I mean site 42, Tango's site is still showing as available. I am going to reserve site 44 and site 46 for my family and for the group.
