Ithaca Car Camping trip

“44 and 46 should be good, Lyndy.”

“Okay, I have site 44 and site 46 reserved. Site 46 is a tent site, which may mean that the open area is smaller than site 44. I will probably pitch two tents for my family, the mesh tent for my husband and me, since it is cooler. So we will camp on whichever site allows for two tents.”

“They all allow two tents and up to six people and one vehicle”

“Lyndy, that is a great idea. I am willing to chip in for that too!"

“I have Site 47 for Paul and family so Alison can be close to Lyndy's crew and 48 for Creek Dancer and myself.

I'll be happy to chip in for the group meeting place site. Paul and I can probably rig a suitable shelter if need be. I'm close to owning every tarp ever produced.”

“Now to find a machine gun for the 40-foot long skeeters that are sure to be there.”

“That's great. Thank you, Lydy, for taking care of the group site. Geo, how about getting a couple of cans of that flying insect killer that shoots 12 feet? We can arm everyone with it and have some contests. Good substitute for whacking penguins out of the park, wouldn't you say?”

“So you're saying I should leave the penguins at home.”

“One year in the Daks, the skeeters had FAA wing numbers. I could hear them talking on their little radios: "Buzz Flight Leader to Buzz Flight: I've got a target and I'm going in."

"Roger Buzz Flight Leader, I'm going in on your tail!"

"Splash one backpacker boys, we got him good!"

"Okay Buzz Flight, form up. We're heading back to base. Let's get out of here while he's still scratching."”

“No tree, those guys don't have wing numbers. The size is about right though. But there were wing numbers on the guys that got me.”

“I'm looking forward to seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and seeing the three girls run amok through the campground.

I've got to remember not to put my hat anywhere near a candle this time. Last summer the hat tipped onto a candle. Leather hats smell lousy when they get burned. It was a pretty nicely shaped hole that got burned into the hat though.

So, now that we've gotten out of the wetlands and are armed with acres of tarps, we should have a dry trip. Otherwise, we could have drowned.”

“Seriously, though, we should stress lots of insect repellant for everyone...”

“A machine gun would work better. Ground to air missiles would also be good, but if they explode too close to the ground it could blow a tent down.”

“Hmmm, now I wonder how much money I should have with me to bribe the cooking judge. Maybe a whole bottle of Balvenie.”

“Better bring a lot!”

“We didn't have too many problems with biting bugs last year and it was about the same time of year. We were lucky to hit a relative cool spell, though.”

“Okay, so we have filled 40-48 with gaps at 43 and 45. Where is MarkO PolO parking his family?”

“So who are we missing besides the waterboy?”

“Wolfeyes said she was going.”

“Still considering. Still need to talk to the wife about it again.”

“Scorchfire and snafu are still unaccounted for.”

“lol if it was just her, there'd be no problem. It's bringing the kids along on a 1000-mile trip that has me concerned...”

“I'm not sure how many of us will be there.

Maybe three, we're making plans to car camp in Vermont this summer.

To spend the last three days of a ten-day trip at Ithaca would be cool.”

“Site 43 is mine now. I called the 800 number. Moohaahaahaahaa!!!”

“Hey Tango is a neighbor then! So this means that sites 42, 45 and 49 are still open.”

“I also signed up for 2 vehicles and 5 people so if someone wants to share that's cool with me!”

“OK, my wife and I had a long discussion about this last night, and the upshot is she doesn't want to drive 1000 miles to sleep on the ground. I can understand that; we've only been on one camping trip with the kids, and it was to our local state park.

So, the short story is, we're out. Sorry folks.”

“What she really meant is she doesn't want to camp with weirdos. We understand.”

“Sorry to hear that bitpusher. Renting a camper or something is not viable?”

“I looked into renting a camper and unless I want to go full-up class A or Class C, it can't be done in this area. Plus the wife really doesn't want to spend the time on the road. She stated that if we were going to go that far, she'd want a cabin, and while there are cabins where y'all are going, they have to be rented Saturday-to-Saturday...and she'd want to take two days going and two days returning, so it just adds up to too much time.

However, I am in negotiations with the Staten Island faction, and I may come up myself. We shall see.”
