it's a real luxury... really enhances flexibility in training.

We plan mostly to walk

Actually, that changes things considerably. Running puts a hell of a pounding on a treadmill vs. walking. If you were planning on running at any real frequency I would very strenuously argue against getting a sub $1500 treadmill. Otherwise, get what looks to be the best deal to you. It looks like you did some good background searching on the warranties. Very good place to start.

Check with Costco on their return policy. They have an awesome return policy on electronics. As long as you keep your membership current, any time something breaks even if it's years later, you can return the item for a full refund or replacement. Check to see if the treadmill is included in that policy.

Really Ruby?
That didn't even occur to me...
The only thing about Costco was that they didn't have one for us to actually try, so I'm wary of getting something I haven't even walked on...

Hubcap:

What do you consider to be "real frequency" a few times a week? every day? I'm guessing that I'll probably walk at least 80% of the time, maybe a little running here and there...My hubby might run a little more, but I'm mainly using it to help me train for the Breast Cancer 3-day, so I plan to walk as much as possible...

The computer on my threadmill busted...don't know the speed and distance I jogged. Can still get a readout on my heartrate though.

Pink, it sounds like you would be limiting the running to once every couple weeks. That would definitely cut down on the wear and tear that running inflicts and you should be comfortable getting a lower cost model. Obviously the weight of the use is another factor. A 300lb person will put a wee bit more strain on that treadmill than a 100lb one.

Well, neither Thinkbubelz nor I are anywhere near 300 lbs, so that is not a worry! :-)

We got the treadmill yesterday and had a bear of a time getting it down the basement (I think we burned a good number of calories just MOVING it... LOL)

Got it set up and today, I walked for 35 minutes on it-- I tried out one of the pre-programmed walks-- the inclines were a lot more challenging than I expected, and the Nordicktrack seems a little noisier (when the incline is moving) than the Horizon, but over all, I am pleased! :-) Cannot wait to get on it again! :-)

Thanks for the input everyone! (By the way, Dhutch1, I now understand why you had it installed and set-up by the Sears people! When we started to get ready to slide it down the stairs, it occured to Thinkbubelz and I that because we were both below the treadmill that if we both got crushed noone would be able to call 911 for us... so we put the phone at the bottom of the stairs... LOL... Luckily, we got it downstairs without incident, but I plan NEVER to move it again!!!
