"OK, OK.....

Camel's Hump is a good hump.

To the north and east of Barre, less than ten miles, there is a nice day hike to the top of Spruce Mountain.
It is two miles to the top and there is a fire tower up there.
The last half-mile is steep as all hell.

Find a Vermont Atlas and Gazetteer.....about $15.
It is a book map for the entire state.
You will find lots of cool places to go.

Look to the Northeast Kingdom for Gore Mountain.
Gore Mountain is to the east of Norton Pond and a four mile hike to the top and a fire tower.
I found a USGS map of the area at a bookstore in Newport, Vermont.
Gore Mt is 3300 feet and the highest point in The Kingdom.
The nearest town of any consequence is Island Pond.
It is ten miles or less north on Route 114 to Norton Pond(a pond, not a town)."

Well, that's more like it!

Get a Vermont Atlas and Gazetteer!

Every stinkin' dirt road in the state is on the map.

There are lists of places of interest in the early pages.
These places are geographical and botanical phenomena and such.....very interesting!

I would like to "do" Gore Mountain this summer.

Maidstone Lake State Park is a lovely place to car camp and swim(if ya don't mind cold water) in the Kingdom.
Its about 20 miles from the rockin' town of Island Pond......groceries, laundromat, etc
