I knew too ladies in college that were asked if they were mother/daughter. They were the same age. The one who looked older was not amused. From her telling the story I thought she'd been in the Navy. I did learn a few new words that day.

Good golly Miss Molly! I didn't think anyone else knew about the Enigma. I learned about it in Cryptology. It's the most famous cipher mahine in history to date. When Polish cyptographers broke the code, it's estimated to have shortened WWII by 2 years.

Yikes! I'm scarin' myself.

lol, yah skiracer...

Remember a couple years ago when they made that movie about the Americans being the first to get an Enigma machine from a sub, and the Brits got all pissed about it, because they were the first ones?

The Poles had them all beat.

So much for polyalphabetic substitution ciphers that use emechanical rotors... ;-)

The Enigma had a U.S. Patent and was produced for the commercial market in 1923.

Instead of being "TT's foremost purveyor of crap", maybe I'll become TT's foremost purveyor of inane facts I had to learn for a stupid systems security cert.

Another Orange Book?

I haven't done any security work in ages.

It's probably the same one developed in the 70's by the DoD.

Oh, I was talking about the other two Orange Books I've heard of.

One is the Orange Book CD format.

The other I was thinking of was the old VMS documentation, which used to be in orange binders, thus the term BOB for Big Orange Book. This led to conversations like this:

Programmer 1: Hey, how do you do such-and-such in DCL?

Programmer 2: Go ask BOB.

This was a pre-Unix method of saying RTFM.

$1,000 reward for Nun Bun!
I would return it for the reward for sure. What ever you do don't eat it, it is over 9 years old!!!!....

That reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Elaine eats the famous, but very old, piece of cake. Petermen catches her in the act with a hidden camera and tells her that she will get all the punishment she deserves when that piece on cake takes effect!
