When did you post this on the trip page, chili?
Seeing as it's in my backyard, I have to sign up at least as a maybe. ;-)

Last night when I was catching up on reconciling my calendar.

My mother lives in Hattiesburg (brother in Ocean Springs) and I go down there every six weeks or so. I will probably make it to my mother's house sometime Friday, hit the trail early Saturday, finish up Sunday. She can shuttle.

Oh crap, I just realized that weekend is the last of Spring Break at the local Community College.
My nephews want me to go backpacking with them that weekend.
They havn't decided where yet, but I'm pretty sure it will be some place away.

I'm still down as a weak maybe.

I understand. 15 miles of pinewood forest in Southern MS might get a little boring I am afraid, but given my familiarity with the area and the fact I have crossed this trail numerous times, the timing is working out to where I can say I did part of it.

I've hiked that trail a lot for pine forest it's surprisingly nice. Make sure it's not hunting season though

I should be ok in March. After the hunters and before the ticks.

leatherneck is hiking the entire trail over the weekend of Feb 20th.

I am waiting on his trip report to determine the best section for about 15 miles in a day and a half.

Should be able to finalize the trip plan by end of month.

Leatherneck, now that's a blast from the past. I bet he hasn't posted here regularly in two years. Tell him about Sipsey

I did. I still correspond through email. He has moved over to Jackson after he went to work at Nissan.

He was going to go on the first trip I organized. It was to Sipsey and rained like crazy. His mother passes away about 2 days before the trip. I don't recall seeing him around much since that time.

I've done that trail!!!!
About seven years ago when I lived in Jackson,MS. Great trail for wild magnolias and pines but very easy trail AND they have stepping stones and boards all over the trail. Some of the bridges even had indoor outdoor carpet on them....I swear!!! Isn't the entire trail about 40 miles?

Yes, 40 miles.

Leatherneck did this trail a couple years ago and reported the blow downs and lack of maintenance made portions of it difficult to follow. I am waiting on his report from his next trip to decide which section to hike in March.

There are a couple of threads on the trail condition in the archives.

Last week I sent a check for $6.00 payable to the Forest Service to:

Desota National Forest
P.O. Box 248
Wiggins, MS 39577

Today I got a nice Black Creek Desota National Forest 1:24,000 topographical map showing the Black Creek Wildrness Trail. The entire trail from Farley to Janice is in the national forests and half or a little bit more is in the Wilderness designation, that most of the trail is flat, and large sections of the trail are along Black Creek. This has really wetted my appetite for the trip.

I am waiting on leathernecks trip report so we can finalize plans.

I think he did this trail last weekend.

I am driving down Thursday. Hey Chili, should I crash at your house Thursday night, or continue south to the trail?

Unless something changes quick, I am not going to be able to make this. My blood pressure is throught the roof and not improving.

More later, but my chances are slim that I will be there.

Hey, we have had snow two days in a row here in Illinois and the Weather Forecast for Wiggins, Mississippi for Saturday and Sunday is highs 74, 73, lows 49, 48. I got to drive down and do some backpacking. I am driving down tomorrow morning and most likely camping 100 feet off the trail within a mile south of Janice Landing either as early as Thursday night or otherwise Friday night. If anyone is going, just tell me what trail head, what date, and what time you will be there.

Hey Prosecutor
I'll be leaving for the area tomorrow night after work, but I probably won't make the whole distance in one shot. I'll be at whatever place you'll be at sometime on Friday afternoon. I'm planning on going to the Fairley Bridge Road start point, but if you want to start at Janice then that's cool with me.

Slack, I sent you an email with my cell phone number. I am leaving right now, and I'll see you at the Janice Trailhead between noon and 2;00 p.m. so we can spot a car and shuttle down to Farley to backpack northbound.
