REI Dividends

“Is it February when they come out? I forget. I should get some dollars this year.”

“I was just at REI a couple of minutes ago and I asked that same question. It the end of Feburary, but I seem to remember that you can do a little "check" by doing a fake order and applying yer divie to it.

Hang in there. I got the REI charge for child care, so I hope to have some bones coming my way!”

“I am hopeing mine reaches me at my new addy. Mommabear has been keeping my mail >:( (which has played havoc on my bills. I have had to run around calling all the places to get my bills.). I think I will call them and tell them my new address so I will make sure to get it.”

“I just tried to do the cheater check to find out how much mine will be and the on-line order didn't even offer to let me use my dividend! B@stards. I think they wait until you submit the order now. They're hip to our game.”

“lol - I tried the same thing and nearly ended up ordering a $300 backpack. Love to know how much I've got though. Maybe I should just order something for real.”

The other thought that occurred to me is that maybe they have not posted the dividends yet.”

“Luckily I have no pressing gear needs at the moment, so I may wait till spring to use the dividend. Something will either not work or have worn out by then.”

“Yeah, Birch called REI and they said they don't even know how much divends are yet. I wish they were like tax forms, mandatory to have by the end of January. REI said end of February, early March maybe.

Patience is hard for me.”

“ynami - don't apply your dividend yet. REI rep in Oakbrook, IL told me that in March, there will be a members only sale. If you use your dividends then, you can get 15% off your most expensive purchase and it will still be counted towards next year's divident payout. So, you'd be looking at 23% or so total savings. I'm waiting on my bivy till then.”

“ooooh. I should be getting like $100 from REI. I can put it towards a new backpack. My current one is older than I am.”

“Well, actually I could use some winter gear. I would start with winter boots but I prefer to buy boots offline. Maybe some snow shoes or crampons? I know! A 0F down bag! That would be perfect. For three seasons I have all the gear I need...that's why I couldn't think of anything...but I forgot about winter.”

Guess again. As a co-op member, you're an owner. Therefore, hs advice cost you and me in the end with a possible lower "patronage refund". So, quit waiting, get out there and spend to make sure we can get our maximium patronage refund of 10% next year!”

“Hey there, REI is having a big clearance sale for ten days starting Friday. If the price ends in 83 cents, it is half off the lowest price. We were hemming and hawing about some purchases, then the sales rep told us that. I think we'll have to come back....”

“Marmot: Its not costing me the patronage refund. The rep said I can get both the 15% at the time of purchase and the patronage refund after the year.”

“Let's see. Why join REI? Cheap gear. Cheap gear is cheap gear no matter when they make the price cut. Yay cheap gear! Yay REI! Yay sales!”

“Ummm...check the fine print, clearance and sale items are not subject to patronage refund. Perhaps if you have a recording of said salesperson telling you you can save 15% and STILL get the patronage refund on the discounted item, you can try.

You'll still get patronage refund for elligible purchases, just not the discounted one you use the 15% off on.”

In December I bought a climbing harness online for my son, and I was able to apply my dividend to it. All I had to do was put my member number in the provided spot on the checkout page, and it applied my dividend.”

“or did you mean online purchases don't add to your dividend?”

“I guess your dividend gives back the sales taxes you paid.”

“I was surprised to here both apply, too. The members' sales from last year were 20% off and no dividend, right? The rep told me and another guy this will be both 15 and the div. I'll track him down if he's wrong! (well, no I won't, I'll just buy what I would have in January)”
