Bob Marley RAWKS!View Messages“Bob Marley is great - I saw him in 1979, I googled the location and his name to see if I could get the date. This is what it said on one site: Neville Garrick is in the process of acquiring the rights to the Amandla "Festival Of Unity" Concert that Bob Marley & The Wailers performed on July 21, 1979 in Boston, Massachusetts at Harvard Stadium. Many call this Bob's best performance of his career. and another 1979 He plays a benefit at Harvard Stadium in Boston to raise funds for African freedom fighters, and makes three powerful speeches about recognizing Rasta as God Almighty, legalizing herb, and uniting humanity for common purpose. His performance that day is recognized as one of the strongest of his life ,, and parts of his impromptu declarations are later incorporated into his evocative ballad "Redemption Song." But those around him sense a permanent weariness and fatigue, his face becoming drawn and lined with pain. last edited: 1/12/05 8:11:13 PM” 8:09:04 PM 1/12/05 “Going home? I thought he was born and raised in Jamaica?” 7:38:36 AM 1/13/05 “Acording to what Rita Marley said, Bob's whole life is about Africa, it is not about Jamaica," said Rita, a Cuban-born singer who married Marley in 1966. ...He has a right for his remains to be where he would love them to be. This was his mission. Ethiopia is his spiritual resting place," she said. "With the 60th anniversary this year, the impact is there and the time is right."” 8:10:58 AM 1/13/05 Repatriation “His whole life was about Africa Uniting...true. He was also in favor of reparation for blacks torn from their home roots, but obviously, not repatriation or he would have (once he had the means $$$) repatriated himself. Also on a side note Haile Selassie I (King of Ethiopia who some Rastas believe to be Jah in the human form) said himself on several occasions 'I am not a God... I am just a man working on God's mission' (paraphrased) Also he was NOT a Rasta himself he was a member and supporter of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church (a Christian). Many (if not most) Rastas acknowledge and believe in Jesus. I believe in the exhistance of the man Jesus but think of him as I think of Haile Selassie I, not a God or the son of Jah but rather a man working for the mission of God. Jah Lives... Capt.Jim” 8:33:38 AM 1/13/05 “OK, who knows what he died of, and how did it initially start?” 8:51:10 AM 1/13/05 “He died of cancer at age 36. That's all I know...” 8:52:50 AM 1/13/05 “He died from malinoma(SP?) that was first recognized in his foot after an injury to his foot while he was playing soccer. By this time it was too late.” 8:56:30 AM 1/13/05 “He died of brain cancer, but the cancer actually started out as a small spot of skin cancer on his small toe. He knew about it but ignored it. Saw one of those shows on VH1 about him.” 8:56:40 AM 1/13/05 “What'd I win? LOL!” 9:00:50 AM 1/13/05 “Haile Selassie (words put to song, by Bob Marley as "War") to the United Nations: "the Addis Ababa Conference taught, to those who will learn, this further lesson: That until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned: That until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained; And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique and in South Africa in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; Until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and good-will; Until all Africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; Until that day, the African continent will not know peace. We Africans will fight, if necessary, and we know that we shall win, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil." He warns Europe that it must now take a stand against facism: "... I decided to come myself to bear witness against the crime perpetrated against my people and give Europe a warning of the doom that awaits it, if it should bow before the accomplished fact." last edited: 1/13/05 12:09:35 PM” 12:05:02 PM 1/13/05 Hey PEDXING... “Where abouts you from in MASS... I live in Hubbardston Capt. Jim” 3:01:55 PM 1/13/05 AMANDLA FESTIVAL OF UNITY, 1979 “Anyone know if the Amandla Festival of Unity, featuring Bob Marley and the Wailers, Olatunji, Patti LaBelle, Dick Gregory and others, is available yet on DVD, and if it is, what the quality is? One of the posts here indicated that someone named Neville Garrick was in the process of getting the rights. If you do know, could you please post purchase info or e-mail it to me: unclefactor@yahoo.com Thanks.” 8:42:35 PM 3/12/07 “I saw Bob about that time frame. Saw Patti Labelle, too. Forgot about her on the "Who have you seen" thread.” 1:21:14 AM 3/13/07 “I found Bob Marley and the Wailers Live at the Rainbow Room DVD for $10 at Walmart. Even had a whole extra disk of extras with it. For being as old as it is the sound of that show was unbelievable.” 5:55:06 AM 3/13/07
