“Saddam Status Upgraded to P.O.W. from C.O.W The status of Saddam Hussein, former dictator of Iraq, has been upgraded to Prisoner of War (P.O.W) from Captive Obnoxious Wookie (C.O.W.), according to an unnamed Pentagon spokesman. Many on the so-called "Arab street" had complained about Mr. Hussein's treatment as a C.O.W., when video showed a U.S. military physician shining a penlight in his mouth and picking lice from his abundant hair. His P.O.W. status will grant him certain rights under the Geneva Conventions, including visits from Red Cross officials and up to 1,000 hours of America Online (AOL) Service free. Saddam should not be the only one who is put on trial. The Americans backed him when he was killing Iraqis so they should be prosecuted," said Ali Mahdi, a builder. "If the Americans escape justice they will face God's justice. They must be stoned in hell." The United States continued to feel the backlash of its move to give Saddam prisoner of war status Tuesday as thousands of Iraqi protesters called for his execution. Washington's move has thrown some doubt over his fate after Iraq's U.S.-backed Governing Council had said Saddam would be tried in a special tribunal by Iraqi judges. <snip> The United States backed Saddam in his war with Iran in the 1980s. During that time, he also gassed an estimated 5,000 Kurds to death in the village of Halabja. <snip> In street interviews, Iraqis said Saddam must be tried by an Iraqi court prepared to hand down the death penalty and examine his ties to past U.S. governments. <snip> But his new POW status has only added to skepticism about American promises after toppling Saddam in April. "The Americans and Saddam should face justice. Do you really think the Americans are going to put themselves on trial?" said Ali, a U.S.-trained policeman. "Of course we hope the Americans and Saddam will face trial. But will it ever happen? I doubt it."” 7:31:09 AM 1/22/04 “"stoned in Hell"... hmm......” 7:44:11 AM 1/22/04 “ They'll stone ya when you're at the breakfast table. They'll stone ya when you are young and able. They'll stone ya when you're sittin' there in Hell. They'll stone ya and then they'll say, "oh well." Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone, Everybody must get stoned. not from the song "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35" (really) not written by Bobby Zimmerman (sorta) not appearing on the album Blonde on Blonde (1966) ” 8:01:14 AM 1/22/04
