“Schwarzenegger Gets Oscar Nomination For Role As Governor Of California

Arnold Schwarzenegger received an Academy Award nomination this morning for best actor for his role as a former bodybuilder who becomes leader of California by unseating an unpopular governor through a recall election.

"I am overjoyed," remarked Schwarzenegger who was in the middle of rehearsing a scene in which he makes inappropriate advances on a secretary.

Critics were enthused by the Schwarzenegger nomination as well.

"Arnold lends so much of himself to the role that you get the feeling sometimes that he really is governor of California. Certainly you get the sense that he believes he actually is governor of California," said Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert.

Nevertheless, the Austrian-born actor faces stiff competition this year from several tough challengers such as Donald Rumsfeld for his role as a macho defense secretary, Michael Bloomberg for his performance as a billionaire mayor of New York City, and Richard Gephardt for his humorous rendition of a Democratic presidential candidate.”
