Who did that comedy routine years ago.... "With a name like '10,000 Nuns and Orphans Eaten By Rats' it's got to be really great jam!"

Isn't that a lovely sentiment? <G>

Bourbon
Give me a good bourbon such as Woodford Reserve, Old Weller, Knob Creek, or one of the other quality KY bourbons over beer.

BTW this does not include rotgut such as Jack Daniels...it is Tennesse whiskey made using bourbon style production. Federal law prohibits any other whiskey from being called "bourbon" unless it is produced it the state of Kentucky using charred white oak barrels.

As far as Tennesse whiskey goes, George Dickel beats Jack black hands down in my book.

No beer for me, not for awhile anyway. I lost enough weight on the first 150 miles of my SHT trip that my jeans just sort of hang around my hips. It's a long ago feeling and, wanting to enjoy it for awhile, I gave all my beer (it was crap anyway) to my next door neighbor. Back on the trail Monday to do the last 50 (class reunion tonight).

low carb
I haven't had mass produced low carb anything that tasted good...mother nature is the only one that can do that.

I love chocolate and tried the Hershey's 1 carb bar, I threw it away after the first bite.

I'm Officially A Lightweight Now
I drank 4 beers last night and they really did a number on my head for this morning...3 Sierra Nevada Pale Ales and a Jug of Mud from Mississippi.

If I'd've only drank some water or ate something prior to bed I wouldn't have felt half this bad.

I've stuck with dark chocolate, the regular stuff in small amts. Couple of squares instead of an entire bar.

Back to wine for me. Gamay Beaujelais is now my "beer"

Abita Amber, my fav!

Currently have a Samuel Adams Boston Lager by my 'puter.

Had my first Abita Amber at Madinsonville's Wooden Boat Fest a few years ago! You ever go?

Abita is pretty well stocked here in S. MS.

Stove Stomping Abita Amber
I have been to the Wooden Boat fest. I love Madisonville! I would live there but work in Ascension Parish which is about a 75 minute drive. I live on the Amite River in Port Vincent. My home town is Maurepas on the western shore of Lake Maurepas. Maybe we can tilt a few Abitas in Madisonville some time. I fish at a friends camp in Bay St. Louis occasionally that must be close to your home.

Low carb does not mean low-cal. Alcohol itself is highly caloric, then add all the malt used to ferment beer. Low carb sounds all good, but add the facts together and it's evident that Iraq was palnning on creating weapons of mass destruction once UN sanctions were to be lifted.

btw - How'd I do tonight?

Alcohol has 7 cals per gram, but thanks for the heads up Mr. Bush.

Dear Mr. Bush
Once again, your just dead wrong on the facts.

Malt is not used to ferment the beer. Yeast is what causes fermentation to occur. Malt, along with other grains is the material that ferments and its inherent sugars are converted to alchohol.

Thank you, that is all.

;)

Dear Mr. Around
Oh but you TOO are wrong...That is if I may be as technical as you.

Beer is not fermented...it is the WORT, the cooked mixture of water, malt and/or malted grains and hops, that when cooled and fermented by yeast, turns into the potable potent, beer.

I used "malt" in the above example because it is the original caloric ingredient to the fermentation process. And not all malt sugars are converted to alcohol, inturn leaving a sickning sweet alcoholic mixture, and that is why the bitter-tasting hops are added, to counter-balance and buffer the sweetness into a "balanced" taste of not too sweet and not too bitter. Of course, a well-balanced beer is ideal, but there is a wide spectrum of sweet to bitter beers having the well-balanced beers somewhere in between.

Thank you, that is all.

;)

President Bush
You are absoulutely right, I stand corrected.

Beer is the result of the fermentation process as you so clearly described above.

I must admit that I was suprised to see you apparantly mistate the facts, given your wealth of experience with alcohol (and other substances) in your younger years. I'm glad to see that you really do seem to have full command of the facts and were only generalizing in the original comments.

Thank you and God Bless America.

Young's Double Chocolate Stout is yumbalicious. I've even had a Rogue Chocolate Stout which is quite dark and opaque, thick and tasty.

Warblers are cool, but I didn't know they drank beer. 8P

Hey, what's this about well-balanced beer? Sometimes a person wants a malty sweet ale, like when they are celebrating the Jayhawks victory over K-State. In this case, you might go for a McEwan's Scotch Ale. Double yumbilicious and has a taste of scotch.
However, sometimes a man wants to go all out for the bitter hops, and chooses a Hazed and Infused. The range between these two is vast, but don't think that you have to drink "well-balanced" to be a connesieur.
Glad to see GW is well-versed on his fermentation process, though.

Appropriate Brew for TT
I don't know how it's brewed and it ain't got chocolate in it. I'm talking Long Trail Ale - Blackbeary Wheat variety. Since it's called ale, I don't think it's beer but I figure it's close enough.
