Got myself a Sam Adams Brewmaster's sampler last night with honey porter, brown ale and black lager. The honey porter (not sweet at all) and black lager were the top two, black lager was really quite delish. I'd buy it regularly if it was available. I think that brewery turns out some of the most wonderful, yet affordable, American beers ever.

My kid Henry and his roomies have at least two batches of home brew going. I haven't brewed since '99 and when he moved out he took the kits.

Must visit....................

I knew a guy who talked about brewing a Pilsner... something about needing to put the whole works in the fridge in this climate....

Hey, I just drink the stuff!

Picked up a 750ml bottle of Brouwerij Lindemans Kriek (a Lambic beer made with cherries). Two bottles to be precise. $9.99 per bottle and damn tasty. What a treat. I wish I could brew it at home! Easily a favorite. The hops have a strange flavor, almost "spooky" because they are aged until they are "stale". It's a strange brew for sure. The stuff made with raspberries is absolutely sinful when served with a chocolate dessert. Beer and chocolate? In this case I highly recommend it... very much.

You beer snobs will love this. I'm drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon cause I'm in Nebraska, they don't have it at home in Texas, it's cheap, and it brings back childhood memories.

When I was a kid and we had to talk somebody's uncle into getting beer for us, it was often PBR, and I would complain loudly. Now that I really like beer of all kinds, I can appreciate the unique taste PBR shares with another classic; San Miguel from the Philipines. I'll usually take a decent cheap beer over a good expensive beer.

I wish I could find some Yuengling.

Just polished off my second bottle of Pyramid Brewing Thunderhead IPA. Too hot for a stout or porter (my favorites being the offerings done by Deschutes Brewing here in Bend, OR).

Funny thing, years ago I lived in Kalama, WA where Pyramid Brewing began in the 80's as a small outfit. Later they were bought out by some other company and now they've gotten a lot bigger.

EDIT: I just found this timeline of how they got started in my old home town.

damn DC is 'spensive!

We used to drink the PBR in college - it was 95 cents for a tall boy can at the pool hall/bar/pickup joint.

I'm having a Boulder Beer - Pass Time Ale

sheesh the pizza joint here (before the fire) charged $3.50 or so for a 12oz 6 pack of PBR. My son was truly disgusted that anyone would buy beer that cheap.

With beer, you get what you pay for........unless you're drinking PBR in a D.C. bar.

PBR is generic crap beer.
I take a 30-pack to the beach.

No one ever said hipsters had brains. Although I am tempted to go into a bar and order one. LOL!

I think 5bucks is generally the minimum for a bottle of beer here. yuengling is 5-7 in a bar/bottle and 5.50 per six in the store.

I confess no knowledge of pbr cost in stores. I'll look for it next time.

PBR is OK as I recall from several years ago - definately better than Utica Club (a favorite of my fathers) or Genessee Beer (suitable only to be poured back into the horse it came from)

Genessee beer! From the sparkling waters of the Genessee River in Rochacha. Sparkling from all the Kodack Chemicals dumped into it.

Toejam...I have childhood memories of PBR as well...that is what my folks used to drink and I would sneak a sip every now and then. As far as the Yuengling that is my favorite beer! I can get it here but they don't have it in GA..I usually have my beer fest when I visit mom there! WHICH btw..is this weekend!
