I purchased a Marmot Never Summer for $89 and a Gregory Forester for $155 from Backcountry Gear and experienced great service. I would definately purchase from them again and yes, you can find killer close-outs there.

Dicks Sporting Goods has one of thier water filters on sale for $39.97. That's usually the price of a replacement filter.

Although, after this weekend I think I'm just gonna stick to the bandana, chemicals technique.

I have one of these that lives in the closet. I've done the same thing you did and went to drops. If anybody wants a pump they can have mine for $10 plus postage!

ok. I'll ask. what's wrong with that filter? I use a PUR hiker with my Scout troop but, was looking for another filter. By the way, they're out of stock at Dick's.

Isn't that the MSR? I have a Katadine Hiker and it kicks all kinds of ass! I even pumped water from one of the horse ponds on top of a ridge in the Charles Deam. Anyone who's been there, knows what I'm talking about.

I have a sweetwater and it has worked fine for several years. Kudzoo if you still want to unload yours let me know. I wouldn't mind having a spare for my son.

BTW MSR bought out sweetwater a couple years ago.

On another note
I just bought a Eureka Spitfire, cool solo tent, from Discount Hunting Supply's eBay store.
http://stores.ebay.com/Discount-Hunting-Supply_Tents_W0QQcolZ2QQdirZQ2d1QQftidZ2QQtZkm

Price was $64.95 (msrp $125) plus $12.00 shipping. Depending on who you believe, the pack weight is 3lbs-4oz or 3lbs-10oz. I like the size, design and price. Will have more to say after it arrives.

Merino Wool Socks at Costco
Just paid a visit to the local Costco. They just got my favorite all purpose socks in. These are made by Head (the skiwear people) and are medium weight, 72% merino wool, 27% nylon, 1% spandex, constructed like Smartwool socks. They come in a 3 pack for $9.99!!! These are GREAT socks at a fantastic price. I've been wearing them as my everyday winter socks since I first found them about 4 years ago and have yet to wear out a pair. I have started stock piling them, I know that one day they'll be gone. Costco gets them in the fall and they're always gone by Christmas, so don't wait, get 'em now!

I picked up an orange shirt with the General Lee "01" (Dukes of Hazzard) on the front for $5 from Target. If it had the confederate flag on the back it would have been complete.

I got a hell of a deal on a titanium spork last weekend.........it was lying on the ground at my campsite in Otter Creek Wilderness.

For the price of picking up a few items of rubbish it was mine!
