If I have caused turbulance. ???????” 1:05:20 PM 1/24/04 “I assume you're talking about me, FG. I didn't jump on anyone's case, just stated an opinion. How come I only rate a piss off and not a fvck off?” 1:05:21 PM 1/24/04 “no kidding, MaryPhil.” 1:06:32 PM 1/24/04 “I'm not taking back anything written. I apologized to embear, although I still think next time around we all have learned a little about how to approach something. (Me: Not to speak my opinion, it would appear. The rest: Perhaps to share things with a few people and go ahead and get it solved, so as not to worry all hikers… and yes, concern even those not on the hike.) As to my post about the ranger, I was trying to nicely get to the point of whether or not it/he was a troll. Do people here shout out "troll" at every opportunity? Yes. I didn't do that. I was trying to help and not insult this person. I would guess there are some out there who see things here and wonder if we can't better communicate in some way, to make the whole process run more smoothly. I'm not saying I'm perfect. I can more easily see things when I'm not directly involved with them. I am not questioning the ability of the trip leader. I am not saying anything went on on the hike. I am asking questions about communication. I am just asking questions and, yes, making comments. So is "fuk off" an appropriate response? I think not. You can all think what I said is just plain awful, although remember that I was commenting on things already public on this board. I certainly won’t stop looking at threads, looking at situations and wondering if they can’t be handled better by those involved. I’m inquisitive. Don’t you have consultants that come into your company – who are not related to it – who try to see things objectively and ask questions so things might run better than ever? Things that might be running pretty smoothly now, but “tweek” them to be just a bit better? I do that. If I see something, I’m gonna call a spade a spade. It’s the way I was raised. You may not like that (like in this situation) and post stuff back. That's fine. But, did I get nasty with you? I don’t think so (and believe me, I can be nasty if I want to be nasty.) But I didn’t want to go there. Please copy and paste if I did. You can tell me you think my attitude/opinion stinks and disagree vehemently in further posts. You certainly have that right. But "fuk off" hurt.” 1:11:37 PM 1/24/04 “Uncool. Please chill out before you say something else regrettable, folks.” 1:15:32 PM 1/24/04 “NICE PICTURES SS, Thanks. Yo bear!” 1:16:28 PM 1/24/04 “YO BEAR!!” 1:16:56 PM 1/24/04 “Hey Q Waz up?” 1:18:05 PM 1/24/04 “Getting ready for FYAO 4, incase I can go. Gettin' up Michigan way anytime soon?” 1:24:11 PM 1/24/04 “NO WAY! I am Headin south Feb 3ish! Warmth! Oh yea! Mohaaaaa! This sprin/summer fer sure.” 1:26:22 PM 1/24/04 “Holy shi+, what a mess here. I'm not about to point fingers at anyone or give anyone #&%!$ but I would like to suggest that from now on everyone obey the fules when it comes to State Parks. I've been o several trips when booze was present and there was never anything bad that happened. I've never understood the "need" for it on trips but that's just me (I never touch the stuff). I want to say that the Rangers were very nice, as always, and everyone treated them with respect. Let's all continue to respect each other and follow the rules better. As I said on the origional trip thread about the Rangers sometimes moniter these message boards, I'd say they will be even more closely watched. If you must take booze, keep it on the trips where it would be allowed. As far as the Lizs vs. FG (and anyone else). Everyone just drop it and get along. No telling when you might wind up on a trip together.” 2:01:16 PM 1/24/04 “twigeater has a very good point that nothing that was said proves that the person was a Ranger. Clothing: Ranger clothes. That's not very descriptive. I'll check into all of this and report back. Now I know why stikmon never formally organizes trips.” 2:22:04 PM 1/24/04 “If you enjoy planning and hosting trips dayhiker, don't let this experience stop you from doing it again. Someone is always gonna disagree, find fault, etc. Sounds like everyone on the trip had a blast. There's often something/someone that has me beating my head against the wall before and after the Maine trips. I think I have a dent in my forehead. But I love the trips! Well, I guess I'll collect up my big tan thingy (just like Lizs big pink thingy) and report to the witch trial. :) see you all there - burn baby burn!” 2:53:20 PM 1/24/04 “That's my problem twig. Everyone did have fun, but yet this has turned into a major drag. My issue is that someone who had nothing to do with the trip made a point to come over here and stir the pot. I know we seem a bit harsh, but this has been going on for two weeks now. Thanks to this experience I have for the first time added a person to the ignore list. Also, most folks say there's not a tt'er they wouldn't hike with. I can't say that after the previous two weeks.” 3:13:26 PM 1/24/04 “i'll have my pics up soon dayhiker, just been busy lately. Kinda wishing liz would just shut up and go away, does she even own boots? But i digress..yea i shouted troll..i usually don't...but i thought it was liz or some other trouble maker stirring it up, cause to me...this was a great trip..and if we were doing anything wrong...why weren't we cited. Also...noone ignored Erich...not everyone had a permit...remember...the permits have numbers in the party...my permit had 1 on it...the 2-3 other permits had 10+ or -10 on each...equaling all in the group.” 3:19:26 PM 1/24/04 “Erich seemed like a guy that wouldn't have minded sitting down at the fire and hanging out, not that the other guy didn't. I have been telling folks all week what a cool place this was. If I am ever able to talk my wife into backpacking again, this is where we'll go. I still think napsack is something of a troll. I might call anyway, haven't made up my mind yet.” 3:28:13 PM 1/24/04 this too shall pass “dayhiker, that's what makes TT what it is... there are personalities on this board I thought I'd hate to hike with, even had "words" with a few - but all was well when we met in person. I'm told I come across "kinda harsh" on the board...but in person I'm a complete #&%!$! LOL...” 3:30:23 PM 1/24/04 “I'm the same way, but I just don't dig pot stirring on a trip thread and then acting like, "What, little old me, yall hurt my feelings even though I started the whole thing." I stir the pot as much as anyone on typical threads. Those are free for alls. I don't, for example, come over to your Maine trip and stir the pot there. That's not cool.” 3:33:00 PM 1/24/04 “Day, did you get the e-mail I sent you???” 3:58:56 PM 1/24/04 “Never mind. I just checked my mail and I see that you did.” 4:03:27 PM 1/24/04 “We, on the west coast, don't have this kind of trouble. I guess it might have to do with the better trip planning, the more reasonable rangers, less whiny hikers and the lack of silly alcohol rules in the parks. Heck, I figure even Father Goose wouldn't have anything to get mad about on one of our trips, other than all the other hikers leaving him so far down the trail. In fact, we're probably the cause of liz's disappointment with you guys, since she is use to seeing our trips come off without a hitch, by this point. All things considered, I'd have to give you guys a C- for preparation, and a C+ for execution. you can do better.” 4:06:54 PM 1/24/04 “Nice, Phaedrus. You just proved that a fool and his lips are soon parted... The planning and the trip came off without a hitch. The ONLY problems were caused by someone not even associated with the hike. "Heck, I figure even Father Goose wouldn't have anything to get mad about on one of our trips, other than all the other hikers leaving him so far down the trail." Now that's funny!” 4:14:29 PM 1/24/04 “WEST COAST!Where is that/? And they hike there. NO WAY!” 4:20:08 PM 1/24/04 “I had my lips firmly pressed in a disapproving grimace the whole time I typed that, FG.” 4:24:26 PM 1/24/04 “I'm baffled by all the hoopla that has been generated over a trip that arguably went off without a hitch. Perhaps there was a Savage Gulf trip in a parallel universe beset with misfortune that I wasn't a part of. More likely there are some non-participants engaging in a bit of schadenfreude when there's really no basis for it.” 4:29:17 PM 1/24/04 “Is schadenfreude German for "trolling for Father Goose"? If so, you caught me.” 4:31:57 PM 1/24/04 “Heh! well, I'd say that there is indeed an element of schadenfreude in most acts of trolling.” 4:48:15 PM 1/24/04 “dang, where the heck did all this crap come from. No one insulted any Ranger, both of the Rangers were nice guys who were doing their job. The one at Collins West was really cool. He even memtioned there were a couple more people in the parking lot coming in. Turns out they weren't with our group. He wanted to make sure everyone was safe and having a good time. He is the one that told us they had shut down Saw Mill campsite because of the size of our group. The Ranger at Saw Mill did ask to see the permits but no biggie there. He was polite and we were back to him. All in all both rangers were cool. I am not sure where the rest of this crap came from but it totally isn't true.” 4:55:33 PM 1/24/04 Whoyoutryingtofool. “I am a troll, I have been trolling this for awhile. Seems like the gathering has turned a deaf ear to the causes and effects of their gathering. I don't have a hen in in this house anyways. If I did I would try to amend the concerns of others. The gathering has created a bad image for themselves and others to come. In most case's those that are the most defensive or mean spirted are always guilty of what ever has happened in the first place. In my opinion after reading this whole topic, it is possible that a few in the gathering were offended by the actions of the others but have kept their concerns silent. Booze and the freedom of speech are a troublesome pair for some. Could it be that there were some other people that were in the campgrounds that did not like the groups behavior. And if so is it possible that they complained to the park rangers. Possible, I bet not in this groups opinion. You people are so lucky to have that place to use it sounds like a wonderful place. As for the park rangers and staff. Sounds like they had there hands full with the potential problems associated with booze and backcountry hazards. And Liz, I like your style. I think I would enjoy your company somewhere sometime.” 6:21:32 PM 1/24/04 “Err... I would like to post a disclaimer at this point: I trolled for good-natured fun, and because I was positive I could get FG to post a rant. Mission accomplished. I did not, however, mean to open the door to further flaming. Thank you for your support.” 6:32:21 PM 1/24/04 Bing! Bing! Round 5! “Give me a break. To quote the great Poet Jon Bon Jovi: You Give Love, A Bad Name” 6:34:35 PM 1/24/04 “That was to the pecker, not you Phead....” 6:49:08 PM 1/24/04 “Hey......I had fun :)” 12:11:18 AM 1/25/04 “I had fun to even if I only avg .8 miles per hour f--- meeeee” 12:12:53 AM 1/25/04 “LMAO..hahahahha” 12:15:15 AM 1/25/04 “I had fun getting lost.” 9:00:03 AM 1/25/04 “Yee Hawww, WD did you have a good hike there bro!! Jer, bubba, ya needs to figure a trip dis way, the beaches are "scenic", if ya knowwhutImean! Man I just read all dat stuff! Sheeite, ain't nuttin much changed, LMAO. Lizzypoo, you jinxing this group up or sompin? hehe” 1:54:20 PM 1/25/04 “hey nekkid. I made comments on stuff happening, which yo ain't supposed to do, les'n you're on the trip. (I didn't know that unwritten Trail Talk statute.) Apparently now I'm blamed for whatever happened/happens regarding this trip. I make a good scapegoat, it appears. ;-)” 2:47:56 PM 1/25/04 “you'd make a better tabloid/supermarket trash reporter than a real true-to-life reporter.” 4:37:07 PM 1/25/04 “/” 8:43:03 AM 1/26/04 “Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw bricks. IMHO, the biggest problems to come out of group trips are from the ones who ultimatley don't even attend.” 8:59:46 AM 1/26/04 “LMAO @ Opie! Mohaaaaa! Hey chili, see you at ocala?” 9:03:44 AM 1/26/04 “Yes Sir, Mr. Bear. I look forward to it!” 9:06:13 AM 1/26/04 “its all good doe!” 9:08:02 AM 1/26/04 “"I had fun to even if I only avg .8 miles per hour f--- meeeee" Ewker Well F--- meeeee!! Just for you Ewker I might be ready to hike when its time for Ocala. I just cant miss the trip.” 10:12:10 AM 1/26/04 “cottonsocks, I want to see you walking at least 1.5 miles per hr on the Ocala Trip. It is flat land, no LITTLE HILLS like we went up.” 12:05:22 PM 1/26/04 “"cottonsocks, I want to see you walking at least 1.5 miles per hr on the Ocala Trip. It is flat land, no LITTLE HILLS like we went up." Ewker If the hip will let me I will be doing about 2.5 miles per hr. It still is really sore. I am hoping that it will be better by the end of the week. It must be getting better b/c I have had no meds today!” 12:08:48 PM 1/26/04 “cottonsocks, just remember to lighten that load say by 30 lbs, you don't need 14 change of clothes” 12:10:46 PM 1/26/04 “I did lighten my load this weekend. I have maybe 50 pnds this time. LMAO” 12:11:40 PM 1/26/04 Jump to Page << prev
