As to my post about the ranger, I was trying to nicely get to the point of whether or not it/he was a troll. Do people here shout out "troll" at every opportunity? Yes. I didn't do that. I was trying to help and not insult this person.

I would guess there are some out there who see things here and wonder if we can't better communicate in some way, to make the whole process run more smoothly. I'm not saying I'm perfect. I can more easily see things when I'm not directly involved with them.

I am not questioning the ability of the trip leader. I am not saying anything went on on the hike. I am asking questions about communication.

I am just asking questions and, yes, making comments. So is "fuk off" an appropriate response? I think not. You can all think what I said is just plain awful, although remember that I was commenting on things already public on this board.

I certainly won’t stop looking at threads, looking at situations and wondering if they can’t be handled better by those involved. I’m inquisitive. Don’t you have consultants that come into your company – who are not related to it – who try to see things objectively and ask questions so things might run better than ever? Things that might be running pretty smoothly now, but “tweek” them to be just a bit better?

I do that. If I see something, I’m gonna call a spade a spade. It’s the way I was raised. You may not like that (like in this situation) and post stuff back. That's fine. But, did I get nasty with you? I don’t think so (and believe me, I can be nasty if I want to be nasty.) But I didn’t want to go there. Please copy and paste if I did.

I'm not about to point fingers at anyone or give anyone #&%!$ but I would like to suggest that from now on everyone obey the fules when it comes to State Parks. I've been o several trips when booze was present and there was never anything bad that happened. I've never understood the "need" for it on trips but that's just me (I never touch the stuff).

I want to say that the Rangers were very nice, as always, and everyone treated them with respect.

Let's all continue to respect each other and follow the rules better.
As I said on the origional trip thread about the Rangers sometimes moniter these message boards, I'd say they will be even more closely watched.

If you must take booze, keep it on the trips where it would be allowed.

There's often something/someone that has me beating my head against the wall before and after the Maine trips. I think I have a dent in my forehead. But I love the trips!

“That's my problem twig. Everyone did have fun, but yet this has turned into a major drag. My issue is that someone who had nothing to do with the trip made a point to come over here and stir the pot. I know we seem a bit harsh, but this has been going on for two weeks now. Thanks to this experience I have for the first time added a person to the ignore list. Also, most folks say there's not a tt'er they wouldn't hike with. I can't say that after the previous two weeks.”

I guess it might have to do with the better trip planning, the more reasonable rangers, less whiny hikers and the lack of silly alcohol rules in the parks.

In fact, we're probably the cause of liz's disappointment with you guys, since she is use to seeing our trips come off without a hitch, by this point.

The planning and the trip came off without a hitch. The ONLY problems were caused by someone not even associated with the hike.

Perhaps there was a Savage Gulf trip in a parallel universe beset with misfortune that I wasn't a part of. More likely there are some non-participants engaging in a bit of schadenfreude when there's really no basis for it.”

“dang, where the heck did all this crap come from. No one insulted any Ranger, both of the Rangers were nice guys who were doing their job. The one at Collins West was really cool. He even memtioned there were a couple more people in the parking lot coming in. Turns out they weren't with our group. He wanted to make sure everyone was safe and having a good time. He is the one that told us they had shut down Saw Mill campsite because of the size of our group. The Ranger at Saw Mill did ask to see the permits but no biggie there. He was polite and we were back to him.
All in all both rangers were cool.

“I am a troll, I have been trolling this for awhile. Seems like the gathering has turned a deaf ear to the causes and effects of their gathering. I don't have a hen in in this house anyways. If I did I would try to amend the concerns of others. The gathering has created a bad image for themselves and others to come. In most case's those that are the most defensive or mean spirted are always guilty of what ever has happened in the first place. In my opinion after reading this whole topic, it is possible that a few in the gathering were offended by the actions of the others but have kept their concerns silent. Booze and the freedom of speech are a troublesome pair for some. Could it be that there were some other people that were in the campgrounds that did not like the groups behavior. And if so is it possible that they complained to the park rangers. Possible, I bet not in this groups opinion. You people are so lucky to have that place to use it sounds like a wonderful place. As for the park rangers and staff. Sounds like they had there hands full with the potential problems associated with booze and backcountry hazards. And Liz, I like your style. I think I would enjoy your company somewhere sometime.”
