Picking a Democrat
I'm still undecided.

Who's your favorite Demo and why? Convince me.

By the time the circus comes to Georgia on March 2, I'm afraid it will be a 'done deal'. Being right on the border with South Carolina, we're already seeing Wesley Clark ads, though... <G>

Ilike Clark because of his oversea experiance, no nonsence attitude, economic policy, his pedigree, his leadership skills.

Check out the rest for yourself. Good luck in who ever you choose.

Bush will win easily this election.

Picking a political candidate is like picking toilet paper. Some are abrasive and some are more comforting, but in the end they all end up smelling like sh*t.

Don't bet the farm on that, Snafu. Remember back early in the 2000 campaign. Bush was not exactly sitting pretty then with his numbers...

I'll have to remember that one lz, that's pretty good and sadly very true.

Edwards is more insincere than the average politicion, just do a little readup on how he's handled his three or four year old Senate seat from NC. He started campaigning very shortly after getting elected to his first turn. He used the people of NC as a stepping stone and has NOT represented them at all.

That's true. The point is, it's early. Lots can happen. One scandal, baby. And the whole sh_thouse goes up in flames, for instance. Not saying it's going to happen that way, but I wouldn't be surprised with this bunch...

There’s no doubt that the GOP will play up the fear factor in this election – just look at last night’s speech if you have any illusions.

In my opinion, Clark is the strongest candidate to neutralize that angle. He’s got the military service and international credentials.

I really liked Edward’s speech after Iowa the other night. I have to admit, I haven’t looked into his platform or history – but I plan to. He would probably do well in the debates against bush.

I'm not a huge political person. It's just my opinion/guess, Bush will win in 2004 and Hillary will win in 2008.
I make sure that I vote each election. It takes me two seconds to flip the Republican row and crank the big lever to open the curtain.
I just believe in the republican idea's more then the democrats, but only by a slight margin.
I think all politicians are crooks anyways.

I wonder if Naked Dancing Llama is running again this time?

I know Pat Paulsen has been dead for a while, but dead guys have been elected before and I still prefer him over lots of the live ones I've seen lately.

Some Quotes:

"United We Sit"

"We Can Be Decisive, Probably"

I like Edwards and Clark.

Both are from the South and have a chance to pick off a few southern states. That's a good reason not to back Kerry. He'll lose them all.

I like Edwards' speaking style and media capabilities. I also like his "two worlds" description of the country. Basically, the rich get richer and poor get poorer under Bush.

I also understand that Edwards is a bit more pragmatic on the social issues like abortion. He is not party line pro choice. To me, that's an advantage.

I like Clark because he could move the troops around with some authority.

Dean is not stable enough.

Polling indicates that Bush's numbers are slim and his own peeps expect it to be a close race.

But then maybe they're just saying that to rouse the GOP.

The best way to approach this is to look at the 2000 presidential election map at www.johnedwards2004.com/map/.

The blue states that Gore won have been hit very hard by the recession. They are very likely to go Democratic again.

In 2000, Bush won everything else. He needs to win "everything else" again to win. If Edwards only wins his home state and the states that Gore won, he would win 275 electoral votes and Bush would have 263.

In my mind, Edwards gives the Democrats the best demographic chance to win the White House. Clark only swings 6 votes.

I live in a solid ‘blue state’ so maybe my perception is a little skewed, but it seems to me that bush got every vote in 2000 that he’s likely to get in 2004. I’ve heard plenty of people who voted for him who are now pissed off at what he’s done but not a single Gore voter who says, “gee whiz, he’s been swell”. Couple that with the increased Hispanic population in several southwestern states that were close last time (think jobs, education) and the poor Midwestern economy and I think the Dems have a really good chance in ’04 and polls should start showing that once we’re past the primaries.

I see alot about Gore winning the popular election, but I'm curious who got the most electoral college votes. I'm no expert, but aren't the electoral college votes the ones that count? Someone fill me in on the electoral college results.

Stick, Bush won the electoral college. But, it was all decided by the Florida fiasco. The one who took that state was the winner of the whole shabang. It's just ironic for a lot of people that Bush lost the popular vote by the size of a medium city and won Florida by the size of a large wedding party!

Edwards may have trouble in NC, a lot of folks are offended that he got himself elected to the Senate and almost immediately started campainging for Pres - he never really represented the people who put him in office. I don't think Edwards is a lock in NC.

Interesting discussion. I'd pretty well settled on Clark till Iowa, will have to give Edwards a look. I'm thinking Clark because of his back ground, should appeal to the rednecks. I liked the bit about him beating the sh t out of anyone questioning his patriotizm, later clarified to be the living sh t.

Seriously, I think he has the wherewithall to do it. Do you think Bill will come out for him? He's probably got to make sure Hillary isn't in the mix before he can commit.

But in the end, I'll vote for whoever is running against the current guy.

Every election cycle, I always try to get out and meet the candidates. I've met Clinton probably 3 or 4 times, and Gore and Dole and the older Bush.

Today, Bush was in Toledo, OH. I figured I'd see if I could get down there, but it was invitation only. This has happened the last three or four times he's come to the area. He never seems to hold events that real people can get to.

Bush=Isolated

BTW, Bush has increased the size of the federal government by 25%.

Even if you did go there to voice your opinion, RL, your access would be limited depending what what you wanted to say. If you go to a Bush event to protest, you are regulated to a "Free Speach" zone, which is located far away from where he walks in and far from where he might be able to hear it. If you're there to support, You're right in front. Now THAT'S a uniter!!

Go figure.....

My advice: give Kerry, Edwards, and Clark consideration. I'm not convinced that Kerry couldn't win, especially if he put Clark on his ticket.
