I'm just pissed off that they don't have showers.

I like the desert, but I'm not much for desert backpacking because of all the water weight gain; so I stick to living out of my truck out there.

Death Valley
I just wanted to post one more time regarding a trip to Death
Valley. We have a group site at Furnace Creek Campground with plenty of room for the nights of February 20th and 21st. My plan is to do Corkscrew Peak on Saturday and possibly Wildrose Peak on Sunday.

There will be some kid-friendly hikes going on too, so if anyone
wants to bring the family please do.

Furnace Creek Campground Details:
Located 196 feet below sea level, Furnace Creek has 136 sites with
water, tables, fireplaces, flush toilets, and dump station.

Here's a link to some hikes and a map:

Wither post or email me if you're interested.

Some heat sounds good right about now (22 below windchill this morning). I wish I could get down there. I will try to make a Sierra trip in the near future, though.

Kathy...I figure it's 5 to 5.5 hours from my house to Furnace Creek...so I might roll in kinda late....is that OK?

That's how long it takes me from Redlands, so I won't be getting up there until really late either. Hopefully, you'll make it Wind Walker. It looks like a nice group of about 8 to 10 adults and 4 children are planning on going.

Wind Walker- Should take me about 6.5 - 7 hrs from San Diego, so unless I can get off work early, I'll be rolling in late, too.

Pictures I took out in Death Valley this past weekend. Visibility was kind of poor from Corkscrew Peak, but it was a great hike to the summit.

wingding, very nice pics. I can see why you had a hard time seeing the summit. Figures it clears on the way back down.

Sorry I missed it. My cousin's husband died suddenly and the service was Saturday. A gathering of Jimmy Buffet "Parrotheads" and Yuppie bikers. Sounds strange, but it worked VERY well - ever been to a memorial service where JB was played over the PA system?

Anyone up to a Death Valley weekend in late April? Possibly car camp and hike Telescope Peak?

wingding- After a weekend, it's always great to check in and find a great set of photos and get the experience in thought and words. Another one to remember.

This one seemed moodier. They can be that way you know. That's part of the deal with windows in the clouds opening up like that.

Nice! Looks like the desert was a little chilly for you guys! I didn't think there'd be much snow down there.
