Great documentary. It's pretty telling that the hawkish outlook of Kay before the war got him put in the position he's in, and that after 9 months of searching, he's removing himself... Quietly.

I also thought the bit about "threads of evidence" was incredibly blunt.

I'll agree, great show. It really put into perspective what we are dealing with of there. And I guess that the fact that many of those that have been captured and are refusing to talk is in by no means admission to guilt.

Its to bad some of you Dem's can think like Lieberman(sp) has in regards to the aftermath of Bush's still questionable lie. That Saddam is no longer power and that this world is better without him. Didn't all those Kurds die under Clintons watch or were folks looking the other way.

Now if only N. Korea would follow suit like Libya has done. Cus like the Mr. Vernon said," Don't mess with the bull, young man. You'll get the horns."

I'm sorry, but I thought the Kurds in the north and the Shiites in the south were slaughtered right after the Gulf War, under Bush I. Bush sked for an uprising, got it and didn't back it, thus creating more ill will against us. Is this incorrect? What time were you talking about, Briar?

That they aren't giving evidence of WMD under what have to be offers of immunity by this point, lends creedence to the assertion that the weapons were destroyed.

Yes, Saddam being out of power is a great thing, and Clinton bungled a huge number of things in Iraqi relations, including refusing to support the INC when they looked to rise up against Saddam. Bush 1 did the same thing after the first gulf war. All that aside, it doesn't change the fact that we are paying the full price of this conflict. THAT is my problem with the whole situation right now.

I also think that using the ruse of WMD was a mistake.

Ellen Goodman had a great line in her column:

"Remember the last State of the Union when he offered a pre-emptive justification for a preventive war against actual weapons of mass destruction? Well, this year he justified it by the discovery of "weapons of mass destruction-related program activities." What will it be next year? The discovery of classes in nuclear physics at Baghdad University?"

Think about it...

The Frontline also did a good job of detailing the shifting parameters of justification in regard to WMD.

Tonight on Frontline:

The tax shelter was one of corporate America's biggest hidden profit centers in recent years. Shelters have become so lucrative that some experts estimate as much as $50 billion is lost to the U.S. Treasury each year. And ordinary taxpayers wind up footing the bill. FRONTLINE correspondent Hedrick Smith provides an inside look at how big corporations and wealthy individuals cut their taxes with intricate, hidden, and abusive tax shelters and investigates the role of blue chip accounting firms in these secret deals.

Hedrick Smith does good work. He's the same guy who did "Surviving the Bottom Line," if I recall correctly.

About the taxes... I remember a somewhat similar story on 60 Minutes not long ago. The angle was different --- in that case it seemed like the business owner was sold a bill of goods by his financial wizards. They took the money and ran while he was being prosecuted by the IRS. CBS had great timing; I turned on the tube the next afternoon and there was the same guy testifying about it before a Senate subcommitee.

I wonder how that suit is progressing.... ?

So the effective tax rate for corporations is now around 17%.

How bout them apples?

Did anybody catch this recent episode, Is Wal~Mart good for America, It was riveting.

If you haven't seen it,, you should try too.

Outside of the strongarmed monster that Wallyworld has become it gently points a finger at the Clinton/China trade agreement and hardly scratches the surface that in my eye ultimately American consumers chased many manufacturing jobs away.

I have a buddy who works for Evenflow, one of the nations biggest producers of baby products, and he was telling me how Wallmart pretty much sets the prices they are going to be charged by producers. They basiclly turn the tables and say, "If you want to earn the right to be carried in our stores you will give us the product for this (some ungodly low price). If not we'll go elsewhere.". Evenflow barely makes anything off their products sold at Wallmart.

Don't know. Something went haywire for a few minutes. I shut down and did a restart. Then I went to Phil's temporary board, but no one had posted anything there yet. So I gave it another try and it worked. But posting activity has been low.

Don't blame Nigal. The system went into the twilight zone.

They were talking about the K-mart Sears merger this morning on NPR and mentioned Wally Worlds pressure to get low prices from producers. I call it the evil empire, but ugh, i olso shop there. Small town, all the other options have been forced out. What do you do?

I missed seeing it, but within the past
month or so, I saw a feature about Walmart on Free Speech TV (cable). It was quite flaming. Did the Front Line program indicate that the towns that have walmart actually lost revenue due to lost of other businesses?

“Hey Nigal, you wouldn't by any chance know anybody who works for Evenflow, would you?”

Well as a fatter of macts I do know this one guy...

Anyone see the episode of Southpark when the Super Walmart came to town? Everyone hated it because it was bad for the local stores but no one could resist going there. The funniest part was when Stan's dad woke up in the middle of the night, went to the window, looked longingly at the Walmart in the distance and then ripped his pjs open and pressed his breasts against the window. LOL!

There was a story recently on Wal-Mart using it's pressure tactics for CD's. It has been losing money on CD sales but they wanted more of the market so they just ate it. Now they feel they can go to the studios and dictate the prices or say they won't carry the discs anymore. With an industry like baby products I can see that it can be damaging but when several people are making millions from a single album (artist, producer, agent) then things are getting carried away. CD's are too damn expensive and I say more power to Wal-Mart for giving these rich jack-offs the finger.

Part of the reason their CD sales suck so bad is because when Sam was still alive he refused to let any CDs be sold there that had profanity on it. They do sell them now but they did it for so long I don't think people even think to buy there. I know I don't.
