I was thinking about dayhiking the Pinnacle. If you guys were to dayhike anywhere on the AT, I would be able to meet up with you Sunday morning and maybe hike with you sometime Saturday too.”

Hockey game in Reading Saturday night (get tickets ahead of time, it's opening night for the Royals and tix will sell out!) and following game, we head up to Windsor Furnace, camp and next morning get up and hike the Pinnacle Loop,

“hockey game and a backpacking trip this weekend. Saturday, Port Clinton to Windsor Furnace on AT, short and easy. Go see Royals game in Reading that night. Head back to Windsor Furnace and camp near the shelter. Sunday, get up and do the Pinnacle loop.”

“jmitch, did you ever do the Pinnacle loop? there is a nice loop you can do that is a little bit more scenic than the hike into Eckville. You pass through a nice rhode and hemlock shaded glen and end up at the Hamburg reservoir and finally in the Windsor Furnace Parking lot. I'm going to park at the Windsor Furnace parking lot. I think I need to get overnight parking permission from Hamburg police. I'll probably get into camp around 10-11. I'm not sure what time the Royals game will be over.”

It’s a shame that camping along the creek above the reservoir is a no-no because there appear to be a couple of nice spots up there.”

if anyone leaves a car overnight in Windsor Furnace at the reservoir parking area, you have to tell the Hamburg police ahead of time.

“A less populated option would be to park at the Sand Springs Trail lot or the state game lands lot on 183 and hike in to the Hertlein Campsite. It's a popular location for scouts, but at least it won't be totally overrun with people. Last weekend at the Reservoir lot there were at least 50 cars.”

“There's a road that runs below the campsite up to the dam--used to be an old power station. There's a road that comes right up along the side of the stream. It looks like there's should be pretty easy access on the map, but no official parking area.”

“I might join you this weekend but I have two dogs, who will be leashed and are very good dogs once they get used to seeing different people, they only bark, but will be taken them on our trip. I'd like to see the Pinnacle and show the GF the views. The question is are there any dog haters in the group?”

Route 61 to Pulpit Rock, then take the Blue Rocks Trail down to second vehicle spotted near Blue Rocks Campground. Total hike about 8.5 miles.

“Despite my bias against the AT, I've made a goal to hike the whole thing in PA- I've done many sections.

So, I'd like to do the segment from eckville to port clinton, but need a shuttle.

We can meet a Port clinton tommorrow a.m., shuttle to eckville, camp at windsor furnace, and be out sunday by noon since the hike to Port Clinton is 6-7 miles.”

We'll meet at PC. jmitch is talking 14 miles or so from Eckville to Windsor Furnace. If that's too much you can just hike the loop and meet us at the shelter or hike in the 6 miles from PC. That's a nice easy walk once you hit the ridgeline. Plenty of options in that area.”

“NG, I've only been in that area once on a Saturday and that time I remember quite of bit of traffic on the trail to the Pinnacle. Maybe because of the fall season there may be more people now.”
