Camping at the "super secret" campsite ?

C'mon Ramblinrev, it only hurts for a little while. :)

CP, yep, I have not yet seen the "super secret" campsite and was going in search of it. Have you been?

Thanksgiving weekend?
Just a thought... I am considering heading home for the holiday & maybe extending it a bit ("home" is Western PA, I live in Northern California), are any of you guys planning anything I might be able to jump in on? I'm thinking weekend of 11/25-26.

Wanderer,

Might be doing a stretch of the Loyalsock Trail- nice views, gorges, waterfalls, great camping.

Wanderer, you'll like the Loyalsock.

nogranola and I are hiking the Old Loggers Path that weekend, starting Black Friday. You're welcome along if you want.

Wow, Mucho Gracias for the very quick responses guys (or gals?)!

So... where are the Loyalsock & Old Loggers Path? I can look up, of course, but any details you can share will be appreciated!

Nah, the title is "Pa trip soon" and the T'swamp is in Pa and Saturday is soon, non? ;o)

I might be up for the Thunderswamp, especially since it's so close to home. I can't find my map right now, but I think the loop without the outer loop is about 20 miles. A counterclockwise hike to the secret campsite would be about 16-17 miles on Sat with about 3 left for Sunday. Also, there's that nasty stream crossing (1 mile in ccw) to prepare for.

Spindle - is it possible that fate is going to allow us to finally hike together?

Wanderer,

North and northeast of Williamsport. Both are very nice trails. OLP is a 30 mile loop; LT a 60 mile linear trail.

good website for the LT.

Pennsy! You know there's a meteor shower this weekend. As there hasn't been a cosmic event involved on any of our previous attempts at hiking together, maybe, just maybe...

I've been emailing with CrazyPace...is 9:30 too late a start time for you? Want to start earlier?

Glad we met the thread criteria. ;)

I'll probably get hit with one of the meteors and have to bail.

9:30 is ok with me While the trail is rocky in parts, it's not that hilly, so it's easy to make good time. I "think" it would be 16 or so to the campsite. It might be less. Hey Jeff, does that sound right?

The Crazy one says he can't start til a bit later. Maybe he could park at the nothern parking area and meet up with us around lunch. Dang, I wish I could find my map so I could be more specific. I bet one of the boneheads has it.

My map is also missing. Small children are very good at making maps vanish and I may have to lecture them about that again later. There used to be maps at the trailhead, hopefully they have been restocked. We'll find the Crazy one on the way. He's difficult to miss.:)

Do you have a helmet? Could you hike in one?

:( dang, if I didn't tell Heath (friend from work), I would hike the Quehanna, I would totally be in for a jaunt with the bonehead brigade on the TST. sigh .. I'm still in for the Quehanna.

If ya want to do the Quehanna, meeting time will be at 945-10am.

funny how little that creek looks in that pic when in reality, it's a pretty interesting stream ford.

Pennsy can bring his leaky waders. Or maybe Lost Soul will see this and sign up and he'll bring his waders. He's been on the TST before.

Yo E&S and jmitch,

When would be the best time of the year to hike the length of the Quehanna? Jimmy San and myself are looking at this as a possibility for this coming year.”
Wounded Knee

Yo Knee, man, you need to take a break from the Quehanna and come check out the Black Forest Trail. That's the best trail in PA and it's not far from the Quehanna. Plus it's 44 miles as apposed to 75 miles and alot cooler and more challenging.

If it wasn't so much of a drive...

Talk Heath into the TST. Think of how much fun he'd have! Or maybe not, being a coworker and all maybe you wouldn't want him telling stories around the office.

I would love to try it, but talk to m silver about any distance for me over about 6 miles atm. ain't gonna happen. And into the teens is just completely out of the question. If it was _flat_ and I mean _flat_ maybe I could try longer. I may be slow but I am also gimpy.

Clay Aiken? ENS must be drinking again, or more likely he is jealous of my "helmet," the colorful Rickett's Glen doo-rag. which was a gift from the Pope Bobo himself.

Deal. But there will be pics.

Clay Aiken ?? WTF ??

I may be able to start at 9ish on saturday if my plan works out. But if it dont, who's got the map so I know where to park and hike in ??
My alternate time is a noon arrival.

As far as the stream crossing, I'm just gonna jump over it !!

Ramblinrev: join us for Sat night. Drive down and hike the 3 miles toward the Super Secret Campsite. It's flat-ish on that bit.

Spindlette:

You might have a deal there. I will have to see if I can find out how to do that and the "super secret campsite" sounds elusive. I am looking at the map but I can't make head or tails out of it. My printer is lousy and my monitor is not much better.
Ramblinrev

if you hike the TST down to Bushkill creek and where the trail unites with the creek, hang a sharp right and follow the creek and you'll enter a few campsites and then finally you will come to the supasecret site that ranks amongst the best in PA.

Ramblinrev, if you were standing on 402 facing north where the trail crosses at the parking area, turn to your left and follow the orange blazes. You'll reach Bushkill Creek in about 3 miles. Listen for yacking backpackers. Probably wet, yacking backpackers. That will be us. :D

so about when would expect to get to the super secret campsite? Now that I know where it is. The wife says I can go. She worries about me cause of my gimpiness. But she says I can go so I am seriously considering it.
Ramblinrev

4-5pm maybe? Unless Pennsy can't help himself and I get dragged along at 3.5 miles per hour the whole fricken way. We shouldn't be there before noon regardless. ;)

No worries. Take your time and don't get yourself any extra gimped on the rocks. We'll be there.
spindlette

RamblinRev--why not just do the three miles in to camp and meet these boneheads there? You'll avoid the stream crossing and have plenty of quiet time.
nogranola

it's a fairly easy three mile hike in and out. You would have a little bit of a climb back out from the campsite on Sunday. It's got the typical southern PA pointy rocks.
EarthNsky
10:58:09 AM
11/15/06

hey jmitch, which way are you leaning? QT or TST? Heath and I are doing the QT.
EarthNsky

That's his plan alright.

Disclaimer: *I* am NOT a bonehead. I'm just a silly girl who will probably fall into Saw Creek. (to the amusement of anyone present)

There's criteria for bonehead status. It involves undiagnosed bouts of insanity. Not all of us are worthy. ;)
spindlette

no, bonehead has been redefined a year ago. A bonehead is anyone who rotates in and out of my circle.
EarthNsky

darnit. I thought going on a bonehead trip was a requirement. One of the ones involving exhaustion, exposure, and occasional bloodloss? ;)
