Lunch Rocks

I think this is the spot you're talking about ENS. This was taken on a day hike that Phantom and I did a couple a years ago. Great spot, and a cool stealth site.

that's a nice spot, but lunch rocks is a little further south and outside the park.

I think I'm gonna plan this trip for Jan 20-21. It's short, but I need to stay close and I need a bag night. Might stay at the overlook if the weather is nice, or at the shelter if it's crappy. Many options.

That sounds freezing. Possibly snowy and dangerous too. 20-21st you say? :)

slackaman, you would dig the Pinnacle area. The loop makes a great dayhike. I bet the drive would be about an hour from you. Pulpit Rock is a really nice view. It's about 9 miles and moderately hard. Kind of rocky in places... typical PA AT.

Drivin to Jersey to see the in-laws tomorrow, would rather put pins in my eyes, but what can ya do. I'll get there someday, I hope!!

PS. I just posted that Minsi trip I was talkin' about. It's short but could make a winter Drunk=furst II

looks like Crazypace and I are going to do a small overnighter on the AT from Lehigh Gap Road to Bake Oven Rd (10 miles total). We're going to camp on the North Trail above Lehigh Gap.

If anyone is interested in a quick easy overnighter tomorrow night let me know or post on this thread.

We're starting tomorrow night at Lehigh Gap and hiking a mile or so up to an exposed campsite on the north face of Blue Mountain, overlooking the Gap and Palmerton.

Sunday we'll hike 9 miles to Bake Oven Rd. There is a nice view at Bake Oven Knob.

hmmmmm, I am finally free this weekend and I do believe there is a new shelter south of Cowans Gap and there are lots of great views; the view from Big Mtn is one of the best in the state.

Cowans Gap is a pretty park.

I'm interested, been a while since I've hiked down there.

also a nice shelter near Flat Rock Vista, and I believe there is one near Fowler's Hollow. Flat Rock is an AMAZING view.

yeah, those both sound nice. I've been wanting to do something on the Tusc for a while and never got out that way. The Tusc isn't so far away either.

I read that Big Mountain has a good view. That could be interesting. I don't think the snow is going to hang around. It's supposed to be warmer this week. It's melting pretty fast already today.

I think the best section is PA 75 south to US 30, about a 17 mile stretch. Lots of great views, Cowans Gap State Park, some nice streams, and a new shelter, I think. View from Big Mtn is near the end, one of the best in the state.

I called the state forest, only an inch of snow on the ridge, will likely be gone. There is a shelter, at Big Mtn, south of the state park.

I'll post a trip to check interest.

cool.. let's do a pretty good chunk of mileage on Saturday. 15 miles? Maybe 10 on Sunday? I don't have maps of the Tusc trail. It's supposed to pretty nice this weekend. I haven't been out in a while and I need to get in a good hike.

Thinking of doing the Loyalsock/Link loop as a dayhike or quick overnight this weekend. All the waterfalls should be nice.

Or the shorter Worlds End Loop with a side trip to beautiful Ketchum Run and Cottonwood Falls.

If interested, let me know.

Anyone interested? Drop me an email.

plan is to hike from US 30, near Caledonia State Park to Rocky Mountain Shelter on Friday night. That is a total of 3 miles, gradual up hill (600 feet).

Saturday, hike 12 miles to PA Route 16 near Waynesboro. The highlight of the day being Chimney Rocks, supposed to be a nice view. Last time I was there, it was socked in, but hopefully this time it will be clear!!!

Basically the same trip that I did in Feb, although we did it in reverse. It was COLD when we woke up - near 0F!

I'm interested but can't do it this weekend, I have the kids Friday evening and Saturday while my wife does other things...

I was on the BFT a few months ago, expect some traffic but I doubt it will be overcrowded. Great trail.

I might dayhike a part of the OLP.

Supposed to be nice this weekend, low humidity.

Thinking about the north loop of the BFT.

Or a section of the Standing Stone Trail, Mid State Trail, or Tuscarora. The views will be great.
