I got the Animal Care Technician job!!

I am soo happy! it's all i ever wanted. They will train me in the ER, Operating Room, x-rays.

the only problem is, it's a couple thousand dollars less then what I am making here. But the up side is, that after I enter the Medical Program at school, I will get hired as a Veterinary technician and with it comes a big raise. Which means that within 2 years I could be in my field makng more money then if I had stayed here!

I told them that I will call them on Monday.
I need to think about what is best for my family.

If you have any advice I am open to all. I know that when it comes down to it, this will be my decision. Tree has been so wonderfull and I thank him for all the support!

Congrats!

Are they going to be understanding about your school hours? That can be worth a lot.

Money is irrelevant in the long run. You can always adjust your lifestyle (within reason) to accommodate a lower salary. What is far more important is your happiness / job satisfaction. If this is what you want to do for a profession, then this is what you SHOULD do.

Maple, you'll hardly notice the difference in your paycheck for a couple grand. Plus, if its really what you want to do, you'll be happier, which means your family will be happier.

Its a foot in the door when you're done with school, too. That counts for a lot.

Go for it! Congratulations. The comments about happiness are true. I just got off the phone with a person making 75K who is miserable in the job, the money is nice but all they talked of was the problems.

Sounds like you already know what you wanna do and just have to convince yourself.

If the long run play is working in the field that you want doing something you really like it's probably the right answer.

Congrats!

Mapleleaf, take it.

This is what you have been dreaming of, talking about, and striving for. You opened the first "door" when you choose to finally go back to school, this is just one of many more opening before you.

Congratuspankalations!

Hmmm...
Stay where you are and hate it.
Go somewhere and do something you have an interest in lose a little cash now and make a bunch back later.

There is nothing to think about.
Do it.

Congratulations!

Congratulations
I have said before how I quit a job with a major oil and gas producer to go to work for a very small independant company. I've had no regrets whatsoever.

This past week, our company hired an engineer I worked for at the major. He is now our VP. I just got out of a meeting with him as to what he expects of me in the future.

I was just told that with the skillsets I have, that he is obviously familiar with, I may be going to places like China, Australia, South Africa, and who knows where else to develop coal bed methane for use in the generation of electricity in these places.

So, what does all this mean? Who knows. Today you might be taking x-rays, not too far down the road you might be running your own business. So the loss in wages now, may mean an increas in the future, and above all, your happiness knowing your doing what you want to be doing, not what you have to be doing.

Good Luck!!

Phaed, unfortunately I worked as a vet tech for 3 and a half years and I kind of grew immune to seeing sick animals. You have to detach yourself or it'll really tear at your heart.

Prepare your family as best you can for the change and then take it. It's the change in work schedule that will be hardest on them so be prepared in case the transition is a bit rough.

Congratulations!

Way to go Mapes!!

I feel the best thing for your family is what’s going to make you happiest. You are going from a job you said you didn’t like to one that is what you really want to do. Living with a few grand less a year for awhile is not that hard to do. Ya just have to look for the places you can tighten the belt.
