Right twiggy...they have to offer you COBRA coverage for 18 months after you leave for any reason. But it can be expensive, the $800/mo figure ML named is about standard for family insurance now.

Yeah Mapes, I can't see you gambling on a six month period. Hell, dead turkeys could fall out of the sky and then what?

i wonder why the new place is being so stingy with the insurance? i've heard of having to wait a month or two, but not 6!

COBRA Sucks....The Money From Yer Wallet
Great news re your job. Sucks though re the insurance.

The health insurance at my work is about to go up 40%.

WELL AIN'T THAT EXECELLENT
Mapes.

There should be some crossover in the $800.

What I mean is . . .if you are currently having a family co-pay deducted from your salary of $xxxx/month, then that will stop. So assuming your pay is exactly the same at the new job, then your net take home pay will be hight (becuase you won't be paying for insurance for the first 6 months).

Out of that higher take home pay you then have to fork over the $800.

This increase to net takehome pay assumes that your salary is the same at the new job.

One word for ya mapes...eBay. When I went from having a good job to being laid off I just started selling stuff on eBay to make up some income. I sell clothes, computer parts, gear, books, CDs, anything. Nothing is junk as someone on eBay will buy it. It would be a good way to supplement your income. I'm sure you could easily make up that $3K a year in a matter of months by selling your old stuff on eBay.

If you use USPS, you can order free boxes online. Charge a small handling fee for other packing materials and then have the buyer pay for the shipping and you never lose out.
Dub

might have to do that.

thanks for the idea. never thought going after your dreams could be so hard.

oh FYI
if i get attacked by a dog or monkey, i am covered under work comp. LOL

Good luck Maple!

If your doing what you like, it'll be fine. 3,000 per year isn't much - after a couple or three paychecks you won't even notice.

Behold the Power of eBay
For example, after OSU won the National Championship last year I sold an empty Bud Light can on eBay. I said that the can of beer was consumed in Arizona at the Fiesta Bowl. I put OSU and National Championship in the auction title so it got a ton of hits. The auction which started at a penny sold for $15 + $3.95 shipping.

This goes to show that people will buy anything on eBay.

NO MORE DRAMA!!

God, i just got off the phone with the lady at the new job,

first she said she gave the job to someone else because i took to long to get back to her.

but she hired me anyway.

hmm nice way to start a new job.

going home to get drunk!

StoveStomper, I accept PayPal. I prefer bank account transfers as they are free on the standard account, but I have a premier account as well for credit cards. I used to not accept PayPal credit cards when c2it was free and worked for visa and mastercard. But as its no longer available I accept PayPal once again for credit cards. I require $15 minimum and $250 max for accepting credit cards via PayPal. Too many fees.

Bitpusher, actually I sold two empty beer cans on eBay. The first one was a National Championship beer can. The second one was a can I smashed and burnt and claimed that this was done during the OSU riots after the game. I got $5 + $3.95 from that one.

After that one I couldn't get anymore to sell. Apparently other people got the idea and started doing it and the supply exceeded the demand so they were worthless.

I was prepared this year if they won the Championship again to list another beer can immediately.

I'm not sure whether I should be impressed or appalled.

Not appalled by you, of course, but appalled that someone would actually buy an empty beer can on Ebay. Well, other than a collectable one, of course.

Just run a new ad claiming that it was consumed at the Sugar Bowl and change the names on the can.

I think your going into the wrong field by the way.

Marketing, man - your a natural.

LOL @ Roam...when I worked retail I was pretty good at selling people things they didn't need. I thought about trying to sell a Sugar Bowl can. I'll be sure to let you guys know the next time I put something ridiculous up so you can watch some idiot buy it.

Maple, you might as well try to sell the bridge. I've seen people sell ghosts in a jar, their virginity, their soul, body organs, dog poop, used condoms, and even their friendship for $1. It's insane what people will buy.

so are you ready for the NEW DRAMA?

I took the job, but in the pit of my belly, it just did not sit right. felt wronge and all.

But I was willing to go for it.

Then on my way from work my boss called with an offer from my current job.

OMG

an offer i could not refuse!!
$3000 more a year
another 2 to 3000 in july
maybe hiring someoen to help me out in the office.

how can you say no?
I said yes, not happy about it but I felt it was for the best.
So this morning I called the manager at the shelter and said thank you but NO thank you.
with that, I asked if maybe I could work part-time like on the weekends?
she said yes she really could use the help.

so the bottom line is,
I got a HUGE raise and a part time job still doing what my heart wants and having my foot in the right door!
so I hope this is the end of the drama....

Sorry trolls I still hanging out but not as much!

Gemini

Honestly, I had a feeling that would happen, Mapleleaf. The costs of training a new person to do your job easily exceed the raises your boss is giving you. It's also possible that a new person coming into the job you're doing would want more money than your making, even after the raises.

Get the offer from your boss in writing, if possible.

This what it called a "win-win" situation in the business world. Your boss gets to keep an experienced employee, and you get more money and to keep your bennies. Congrats!
