hi sripes. I bet that your gloves are causing the itching. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't sleep in gloves & socks.
I think that bag balm will give you the itchies too. check ingerdients before buying...I found it to be a lot like the bee's stuff.
I tried the crazy glue last week and it really works! doesn't hurt too much when applied(not like nuskin) hasn't poisened me yet, and holds up well under normal wear&tear, enough to allow cracks to have a chance to start healing. Don't bother with it if you use a lot of sandpaper. It will wear right off.
try using some polysporin cream or ointment in your favorite cream. maybe that will help. don't be afraid to mix up the ones that work for you. and have you looked everywhere for unscented goldbond lotion? I think it is still available around here. I'll check.

called the drugstore & yep..we have it here. It is definatly not discontinued, so go to your local drugstore and ask the pharmacy to special order it for you. I checked with Shoppers drugmart, but I'm sure you have equivelent giant-chainstore wherever you are.

I just read an article by a dermatolgist that said once your hands have healed, maintain them using this.
I didn't look too closely at it, but I think the article was written by the guy who came up with the stuff, hence the recommendation.
I haven't tried it, and don't know how well it works.

Instead of New Skin or superglue, try Band Aid liquid bandages. I think they're the same idea as the medical superglue stuff. It doesn't hurt like New Skin and it really does seem to promote healing, at least for me (I was admittedly skeptical at first).

My hands are a miserable mess pretty much year round just from having bad skin, and the Band Aid liquid bandage is the best thing I've found so far (I've tried just about everything else mentioned in this thread except the Zims).

Huh...that's pretty interesting. I'd be interested if that really works. My hands are in really rough shape from winter.

zims rocks!
I dug through all my handcreams and voila...3 samples of zims crack cream. It smells yummy- like cloves, feels nice & lasted a decent amount of time. To bad it isn't strong enough to stand up to the crap at work I have to use. The gloves stuff looks interesting.
oh-yeah---I gave up on the superglue. It works ok, but looks like hell. I had to resort to bee balm and gloves, I HATE sleeping in gloves!!
Somewhere, I saw a remedy for cracked fingers involving melting crisco and smearing that on. with teatree oil too, I think. bleh. but I bet I'll have tried that by the end of the month!

Aha!
I just found out what the difference is between off-the-shelf Superglue and the medical grade stuff. Apparently the off-the-shelf version has cyanide in it and the medical grade stuff doesn't.

I think I'll hold out for the medical grade, thanks.

I have the same problem especially in the winter living in the Northeast really does a number on the hands. Between the cold, dry air, washing constantly, washing dishes, and everything else can dry my hands out really bad.

My father-in-law made this suggestion to me, that surprised me and worked well. Get some white cotton gloves from the pharmacy and bag balm. At night before bed make sure you take all of rings off. Immerse(sp) your hands with the bag balm letting it soak into the skin like you would lotin, put the gloves on to leave on overnight. Do this for at least a week or more if needed, and this will heal the skin tremedously.

I do this every now and then in the winter, cause all of the lotion doesn't work as well as this does. Think about it lotion has water in it and even when you put it on, the next thing you gotta do is wash your hands for some reason or another and it gets washed off. By doing this treatment overnight gives it a chance to take effect. Good Luck

yeah Sb, I've been doing that with bee balm-cause I have no idea where my bag balm is. It smells different, but I think the ingredients are similar. seems to work well but my fingertips are still a mess. I can't get enough coverage there, or maybe the gloves wear away the ointment on the ends of the fingers. anyway, I have gone back to: polysporin ointment on the cracks, wrap with bandaids, and try to leave on one day. this softens them up alot.
I still don't like sleeping in gloves, but that really does work.

You can just use an old pair of socks instead of gloves

socks won't help either
ha--the problem isn't the gloves, it's the fact that I can't wear anything to sleep in.
