Snow sucks!

“Except when I'm skiing.

It's been snowing all day here in Columbus. The interstates are one big mess...you just pick something that looks like a lane and drive at 35mph. The secondary roads are worse! I almost got stuck in my driveway again with my car. I hate winter in Columbus, snow sucks!”

“Dang, how much did you get? It did fall all day but there's only a couple inches on the ground.”

“Nigal, I think we got about six inches. The bad thing is they never cleared the roads so it was a big slushy mess. Then my roommate got the bright idea to snow shovel the snow off of our sidewalk--the ice from the ice storm was under the snow. So our sidewalk went from good snow traction in boots to ice, lol.”

“saw a thing on discover where a group piled their packs and such into a mound and covered it with a thick layer of snow, packed it down and then tunnelled in and removed the packs one at a time leaveing a cave. looked pretty cool and effective. I think it was in the Antarctic.”

“Let's see now, when it snows, it means I don't have to rake, plant, harvest, mow, weed, fertilize, paint the house,and a whole lot of other things. I shovel the driveway, maybe 10-12 times a winter, and then I have to worry about other things, like skiing, x-country skiing, snow shoes, skating, snowboarding... did I mention skiing? lots more fun stuff.”

“-waking up to a foot of snow that has to be shovelled before work.
-getting off work and you can't find your car cause it snowed another foot while you were in there. plus- when you do find your car- either it has been plowed in, or there is an inch of ice on the windshield/won't start/ door is frozen shut
-driving down the road in zero visibility, using the telephone poles as a guide & praying the car in front of you is going the same direction as you are.
-driving home on unplowed roads after a foot of snow has fallen and plows seem to be spending the night in Tim Horten's.
-arriving home to find that even though your street only gets plowed twice a year, and the rest of the city is snowed in, the plows have chosen this particular night to leave you a special gift at the end of your driveway.
-frostbitten fingers (and cold thighs) from -20C to -30C temps and two hours of shovelling without snowpants cause you left them in Tobermory.
-the pleasure of repeating it all again tommorrow.”

We are supposed to have a prolonged snow event here starting tomorrow. It is about 5 degrees out right now, not including windchill from gusting wind. I hope that no one is out backpacking around here this weekend.”

“hell, i should head out for an overnighter tomorrow night, it'd be an adventure waking up to 20 inches of snow, i'd need my tent the, hopefully it wouldn't collapse it, or suffocate me inside. lol”

“yeah simmer, It's great if you're not trying to get to work on time! sounds like I hate winter, but actually thats not the way it is. I love having a white Christmas, as long as all the snow melts by Boxing day. Knowing that we have almost three more months like (and it's 66F at Gemini's house) this makes me insane”

LyndyS, we're minus 8, expecting minus 35-45 wind chills tonight and tomorrow morning - as usual. We are supposed to get some snow the beginning of the week, not sure how much though.”

We went skiing at Attitash yesterday, and was it ever cold there. Every 2-6 runs you had to come in and warm up, and put on more clothes. Soon we were wearing everything we had. Conditions were great and not too many skiiers on the hill, due to the cold. I kept getting these "face aches". It's like a headache, but they are centered in your face, which bears the brunt of the wind when you are going down hill. I don't believe I ever made one full run top to bottom because of it.

Can't wait for the next trip.”

oh, on second thought,rain here right now would not be a nice thing. The weather people are predicting the temps will go up towards 0C(freezing) so I can look forward to a nice crust of melt/refreeze ontop of the snow. BLAH.”

One of the guys in my crazy mountain bike group asked if I was interested in playing hockey, so I said what the heck. (it's the one sport I don't mind watching on tv - after adventure racing)
We didn't actually play that night, but we practiced skating moves (I need to learn to stop without the toe pick) and I practiced with the stick and puck. It was a lot of fun, but it was really hard when fighting over the puck - keeping my balance and stuff. I'm a terrible skater, LOL and it doesn't help that my skates are sharp as knives. I felt in it my legs and stomach muscles so I know it's a workout. We're supposed to play twice this week, wahoo!
I expect I'll have fewer teeth in March, LOL...”

We were discussing an ice fishing trip with you yesterday on the lifts. We were thinking a Sunday would be great, so we can grab some kids and go skiing on Saturday. Did SB tell you she scored some German Schnapps on our recent trip to Germany?

This would be fishing for smelts on the river in a camp. It's easy, cause ya just pay and everything you need to fish with is provided (except beer, LOL...or schnapps or whatever).

Tonight our tide starts at 5:19pm and we have the shack for the whole tide, but we won't stay that long. I had some pics on webshots, but think I took them off. I'll take some pics tonight and post 'em.

If we go real ice fishing, I'd need to borrow an auger and traps - and you'd need licenses. You don't need a license to smelt on the river. We can discuss the details later...

“I wanted to see how our temps campared, so I changed my weatherbug setting to Celsius - it says we are -19C.

I'd way rather have snow, but at least with the cold we have good ice. Plus I don't have to shovel my roof.”

“It's only 30F here, but its supposed to feel like 21F. I don't know what it was last night but when I was walking around downtown it was so cold it hurt.”
