“Just saw a '67 Shelby GT 500 Fastback go for $260,000 at the Barrett-Jackson aution on the Speed Channel....” 7:14:57 PM 1/24/04 “Eleanor?” 7:26:14 PM 1/24/04 “orgasmic” 9:02:08 PM 1/24/04 “Yeah, I saw that, too. This one was even more powerful than Eleanor though, with 650hp. I can only imagine...” 9:18:47 PM 1/24/04 “Just back from the pool hall. Heard that one car sold for $400,000.” 9:34:05 PM 1/24/04 “Incredible car. I had a friend with a AC Bristol Cobra, 1969 (I think) 289. We dusted almost everything we went up against. I got a ride in one once that had a 427, I commented to the guy that I bet he didn't have much of a problem with cops catching him, he laughed and said..."it wont out run a radio" Although not exactly a muscle car, I always wanted a Sunbeam Tiger with the 260 V8...or did they come with a 289?” 9:41:00 PM 1/24/04 Cobra 1975 “ ”9:45:07 PM 1/24/04 “In 1964 I was in the first high school auto shop class to ever get a field trip to Carroll Shelby's factory here in Los Angeles. It was amazing, although most of us 14-15 year olds couldn't fully appreciate most of what we saw. The only genuine Ford part in those Shelby GT's was the transmission. To work there you had to be a engine/body/paint super-jock...no room for people who couldn't do it all since the cars were hand built.” 9:56:03 PM 1/24/04 “these cars are great and all but i still prefer the nissan Skyline...man now those cars are hot...if i had to take my pick of the older gen's cars though i would definitely take just a classic 1970 Hemi 'cuda” 10:29:14 PM 1/24/04 “Not an Eleanor... I think they said it was "Eleanor's big sister" with an aluminum 427, personally signed-off by Shelby. It may have been a one-of-a-kind. I think some of the sheetmetal was Ford.... it surely wasn't Chevrolet, <VBG> Yes, as the saying went around here, "You can't outrun the Motorola". Didn't Maxwell Smart drive a Sunbeam Alpine?” 6:50:18 AM 1/25/04 “Maxwell drove a couple of different cars, if memory serves, but settled in the later years on the Tiger, I believe. I used to wrench on cars (back whenyou could do that). I've seen many a buet, but by far, the Shelby and the Hertz Mustangs were a couple of my favs. I used to have a '72 Notchback with the Ramair hood. My dad and I took to restroing it after seeing Mad Max. We also aquired a '65 Ford Fairland (289 engine) with a Red/white interior. Needed some work. My Mom got rid of both (much to my protest!) for free. Wasn't the first time she pulled a car boner. Once, when my Dad was away on business, she sold his '56 (or 55?) Thunderbird (the one that had the 390 Police interceptor/Paxton Super Charger) at a garage sale for 10.00. WHOA! She, until the day he died, never lived THAT one down!” 7:44:44 AM 1/25/04 “ten............. bucks??????????????” 7:54:32 AM 1/25/04 “Those old 'Stangs are my all time favorite. You don't see many with the fastback body style around any more. Not in these parts anyway.” 7:56:15 AM 1/25/04 “Yep.......10.00. This was early '70s. 10.00 ....... I still remind her about that every so often, as my Dad smiles upon me from above, kinda like "GIVE'R HELL, SON!!!!"” 8:06:58 AM 1/25/04 “No fan here. They use too much fuel and destroy the ozone layer with all the smog. The future is now! ”8:41:41 AM 1/25/04 “Iffin those damn things were affordable, I'd buy one in a heart beat!” 9:05:26 AM 1/25/04 “Here ya go, Roam.... ![]() 1969 GT Fastback --- But no A/C!! I think these guys are from your neighborhood, Nigel.” 9:07:18 AM 1/25/04 “oops! Make that a '66...” 9:08:34 AM 1/25/04 “I was gonna say, '66. The '69 FastBack is one of the BEST hotrods everymade! I believe that model came with a 428 or a 429 CobraJet engine...... MMMEEEEEMMOOOORRRIIESSSSS.....” 9:10:32 AM 1/25/04 “Yep. Memories, indeed. I had a 1970 convertible... nothing special, just a sweet little car. But if I ever see that jerk who pulled out in front of me again... that boy is dead meat, LOL” 9:16:42 AM 1/25/04 “I believe Jesus drove a Ford didn't he? That's why he walked everywhere.” 9:17:21 AM 1/25/04 “I saw a sign on the back of a Chevy PU that said..."I'd rather push a Chevy then drive a Ford." Now just think about that for a moment........” 9:28:31 AM 1/25/04 “Beauty.” 9:40:24 AM 1/25/04 “It’s big. It’s heavy. It’s butt ugly. It’s the ULTIMATE!!! ”9:51:20 AM 1/25/04 “The '69 FastBack is one of the BEST hotrods everymade! I believe that model came with a 428 or a 429 CobraJet engine...... my friend has this exact model, same color (or lack of color) and everything. he's going to get it painted red.” 10:13:21 AM 1/25/04 “1973 Dino...Now that was a sportscar's sportscar!” 10:45:54 AM 1/25/04 10:52:24 AM 1/25/04 “wow. Unmolested, too.” 11:21:24 AM 1/25/04 It's not exactly a muscle car… “...but I still would love to have one. ”11:24:43 AM 1/25/04 “may not be a musclecar, but it'll run won't it LZ. Tilt: some cars just don't need A/C to be cool.” 11:44:54 AM 1/25/04 “Where I'm located, no A/C means that rollerskate would sit idle three months of the year, LOL” 2:10:48 PM 1/25/04 Chevy Lover “My dad was always a Chevy fan. His first car was a 68 z28 that he bought new for $2000. It was orange with black detail lines/stripes and was heavily modified. One of his best friends was the head mechanic for the Columbus police department. They used to put performance parts on it and take it up to Bethel Rd which used to be nothing but corn fields and race it. Cops never bothered him. He drove it through college and then sold it for $800 during the oil embargo. I wish he would have kept that car because I'd love to inherit it. So naturally, I'm a big Chevy fan. I love Camaros (can't believe they discontinued them), Corvettes, and any other American made car with a big block 8 cylinder engine.” 2:48:27 PM 1/25/04 3:27:18 PM 1/25/04 “1969 Dodge Charger 1969 Hemi Cuda 1969 Gto Judge I like the 442 also. 8)” 3:58:40 PM 1/25/04 Don't Count the Camaro Out Yet . . “Dub, the Camaro isn't dead yet. GM/Chevy stopped making them in 2002, but they kept the design team in place back in Detroit. Similar to Ford and the Thunderbird, GM/Chevy is most likely going to bring it back in a few years after a redesign. I just drool at the sight of a Camaro SS sitting in a parking lot, especially when I walk up to it and the hood is still warm from that big V-8!” 9:53:44 PM 1/25/04 “I'm not much of a Ford man but the new 'stang I saw on the TV looks pretty darn hot. What no Morgan +8 lovers? Dag, my little ride barks it thru 3rd like it ain't no thang. True Sports Car” 10:56:40 PM 1/25/04 “top dawg, I heard that to but I heard they were changing the name to the "SS" to compliment the "SSR." We have a mint condition 2001 Firebird...I love that car. 13K miles, T-tops, beautiful. I'm only allowed to drive it in the summer.” 11:25:39 PM 1/25/04 “I miss my 78 Corvette.” 12:26:28 AM 1/26/04 “Back in '74-'75 I had a '70 GTO with a 400, a Carter four-barrel, and a Hurst 4-speed. I had a friend of mine who's father had been the head mechanic for NYC trucks department. He had all the tools. We did some modifications to my goat, but nothing radical. It was the first car I ever bought. I used to race 442s, Challengers, Chevelles, ... Never lost. My father loved sports cars but was afraid to drive it. I loved it, but couldn't justify the gas mileage today. I agree, shep. It's hard to argue about a classic 1970 Hemi 'cuda. To my taste, that is one beautiful car.” 6:11:28 AM 1/26/04 Sounds like thunder,, runs like a chicken “I gotta throw out another beast of burden that I doubt many have seen, its the Jensen Interceptor III, a British (ha-ha-ha) 'touring' car that had a 455 Chystler motor in it. I miss those 8 track days. Muscle cars are fun if you're just going from stop light to stop light as fast a possible, but what becomes of those muscle cars when you put a twist in the road. I like a happy balance between Hpower and handling. Most of those cars mentioned above in my book handle like a fishes. Nothing feels better than driving a car that feels like its on rails.” 8:29:29 AM 1/26/04 “Yeah, some of those old Boss Mustangs were alright but when it comes to the Pony Car I prefer some REAL STEELE! ”11:49:56 AM 1/26/04 “Will purists accept the new 2004 Goat as a true muscle car?” 2:07:57 PM 1/26/04 “I'm here Phil. Just saw the thread. Didn't see the auction, but from what I've heard from my father-in-law, there was a lot of over-priced stuff, but a lot of good deals. As for the new GTO...I'd love to have one. I'm not a "purist", but don't consider it a Muscle Car. I think that term should still identify the large motor/small bodied cars of the 60's and early 70's. Should it be called a "GTO" even if it isn't an "American" car...why not! While not original, I still love driving my 455-powered 1969 Firebird where ever I can... ![]() Not what I would call a "Muscle Car", my stock 318 1968 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible... ![]() Mike's Car Lot” 2:32:34 PM 1/26/04 “Pontiac GTO, or Grand Turismo Omologato (grand touring coupes built for racing) will have the 5.7-litre Gen III V8 same as offered in many Corvettes. I'm just glad that we will have something sold here in the U S A under the GM banner with an American power plant to go up againt the Euro and Asian cars.” 9:23:03 PM 1/26/04
