You may have seen us on the World News tonight. Midwest got nailed by a big ice storm.

Our county (Perry) and surrounding counties in Indiana are still under a state of emergency. The police are arresting anyone who's out without an emergency reason. We got about 3/4 of an inch of solid ice and it never warmed up above freezing today. If the state of emergency is still in effect in the morning, I obviously won't be going to work. Good for me, but bad for road crews and some folks who have no electricity from downed power lines etc. The ice is beautifulon the trees etc. If I don't work in the morning, I think I'll try to get out and get some photos.

Anyone else get hit with this storm?

Maybe that is the one that is supposed to hit us late Monday. They said something about wintery mix turning back to snow.

Yeah, we got it in Kentucky too, but as usual, the media tried to make it a bigger event than it actually was. The one we had last year was much worse. This year, temps are supposed to get above freezing overnight, with temps in the 50's tomorrow.

Our state of emergency doesn't lift till noon, but they're not ticketing for being out, so I went ahead and came to work.

We should see some melting today with a refreeze tonight topped by a couple more inches of snow. Finally some winter weather here. I've got to move somewhere where it's warm all the time or where there's actually a winter. I can't stand this inbetween crap.

We got the ice here, but only 1/4 inch, and the temperature hovered around 32, so no great accumulation. I'm handling it as an emergency anyway and staying home. I figure you can never be too practiced up for the real thing.

Gawd you'd think the world were coming to an end with all the hooplah flying about a little snow and ice.

The weather men on the local channles love this kind of shlt..."Don't go out or you'll DIE!! Stay in doors where it's safe and oh yeah, stay tuned for the latest developments here on Newscenter 7."...every half an hour, "Well, it's still snowing.".

Fog!
Cant's see a damn thing outside. Temps got up to the 40's today so all the ice on the ground has made for some pretty dense fog. Probably pretty dangerous on the back roads that aren't cleared yet.

Quick Ice Storm story.
First:
I hope you guys are all ok over there.
Second my story:
Last April we had a bad ice storm in Upstate NY.
It started on Thursday night.
I was laying in bed and I could hear the old rotary roof antenna creeking back and forth from the weight of the ice.
I barely slept all night.
All I could think was, this thing is going to fall down and rip or poke a hole in my roof.
I had to goto work on Friday and was trying to think how I could get the antenna down or the ice off it when I got home at 4pm, which only gave me a 1+ hours to so.
Everything being coated in a inch+ of ice and very slippery.
A ladder or my butt up on the roof was definitly out!
Well I emailed everyone I knew and asked for suggestions.
My one friends replied back with the most radical, but logical idea.
Now first remember this is an old antenna and I was going to take it down in the summer, due I have a Sat dish now.
Also, I live in the country, so there not many houses nearby.
So anyway he tells me.
Take my Shotgun with bird shot and stand under it, but on a slight angle not to shoot the house or roof and blast the ice off it!
I was thinking, "man that is crazy", but the more I thought about it the better sense it made.
When arrived home I rushed toi get my 12 gauge Browning and 5 rounds of bird shot.
I call my closest neighbor to let him know what all the eventual shooting would be and he said "wait I wanna watch you and can I camcord it?" so he comes over with the camcorder (just incase something funny happens..lol)
I load up and and blast away. Well it worked pretty good, the ice was coming off, along with the fins, only problem was 5 shots was not enough. I went back inside and got the rest of the box of ammo and continued to blow the crap out of the ole antenna, laughing the whole time.
Well when all done and said the ice was off it and most of the fins too. I was happy not worried any more. Everyone I told this calls me a redneck....haha
It worked like a charm with no harm nor FOWL!!! haha
So If you have this type of problem there is your solution.
