Common assault on a dissenter at a political rally.

Banana republic politics.

I smell a lawsuit.

"Franken said he's not backing Dean but merely wanted to protect the right of people to speak freely."

"I'm neutral in this race but I'm for freedom of speech, which means people should be able to assemble and speak without being shouted down."

Ahhh... I see how you are, Al. People have the freedom of speech if you agree with it... if not, you tackle them. Ummm, doesn't freedom of speech work both ways, El Al-o? People have the right to speak freely, and people have the right to respond freely. Doh?

This reminds me of how the libs* used to get all pissed off if conservatives called them unpatriotic, and that the libs* had the "right" to say what they want and they protested that their freedom of speech was being challenged. Ahem. Well, don't conservatives have the same freedom of speech to protest the protesting protesters? I stink so.

*used as a general stereotype for sake of discussion and may not necessarily apply to you personally. Bye.

When you’re president you can keep the people who disagree with you miles away.

It’s good to be the president.

All neo-cons are transparently hypocritical and pathetic. If the media reported the bare bones of an incident involving a neo-con, you'd be crying "liberal media bias" and "show me the documented evidence". Me, I'll wait 'till the whole story comes out, whatever it is, and then judge. Buck, you reveal your true fascist colors when you put the word right in quotations, which is a clear indication you think there is no right to disagree with a nazi-like president starting phony wars for his oil buddies. News flash: rights aren't just the right to be a nazi-lover, but the right to despise them as well. Yes, neo-cons and other criminals have the right to protest protesters, but what does a neo-con possibly have to protest when they run this country like their own personal piggy bank? Down with all neo-con chickenhawks and their demented sycophants! (Not intended to reflect any person in particular. If you see yourself in these comments, it's your problem.)

Imagine that: Axil of Murdoch is reporting it as a 'body-slam' and CNN is reporting that Franken 'helped carry out one of the disrupters'.

The mock horror you guys feign when a liberal refuses to be bullied is pretty funny. If Bush were heckled, you’d be calling the heckler unpatriotic or worse.

Buck, you reveal your true fascist colors...

DARN! I've been found out! Okay, I'll admit it, I'm a total complete fascist. Shoot. I'll repent only if you repent of your communism. Ha ha!

All neo-cons are transparently hypocritical and pathetic.

Wrong... but hey, I respect your right to say this and I will not tackle you for saying it. Ha ha!

News flash: rights aren't just the right to be a nazi-lover, but the right to despise them as well.

Hmmm... I stink I just said that earlier? And now it's a "News Flash"? Go ahead and protest and say whatever you want, thankfully you are protected by the Constitution to do so, and those who disagree with you are also protected by the Constitution (see how this works?), and hopefully no one gets physically attacked for speaking freely and legally. If you wanna defend tackling hecklers at public gatherings, it's your right to do so.

Go Al!!!
From the report the hecklers were disturbing the peace and were removed.

Freedom of speech does not protect heckling and creating a disturbance.

Let the chips fall where they may.
Let the hecklers try and charge Franken.
I doubt that they have a legal leg to stand on.

If Mutt were to heckle Jerry Falwell or Rat Robertson calling them liars, would that be free speech?

Buck

Hey Tilt, you look at things differently, that's cool. You look at Bush as doing icky stuff in Iraq, I look at Bush as giving hope and freedom to a people who have been repressed for far too long. A people who lived under the constant threat of torture, murder, rape, prison, etc., merely for speaking their mind. Many tens of thousands of people were killed by Saddam, and continued to be killed by Saddam. Saddam scoffed at the world while plundering his own people for his own pleasures, as well as his sons. He wouldn't even wince while killing his own family members. Saddam killed tens of thousands of his troops by invading Kuwait and being defiant to the world. To me, and many Americans, Bush did the right thing. I'm glad he did the right thing. If the WMD info from the intelligence agencies was outdated, then Bush could've/should've/would've justfully invaded under any number of horrendous violations from Saddam. The world didn't need Saddam.

So, go ahead and defend a liberal tackling a heckler, and go ahead and defend Saddam's right to power, it ain't workin' with me. But I respect your view even in disagreement.

And who left the Kurds and the Shiites at Saddam's 'mercy' after Gulf War I... ? The Previous Bush.

You act like we don't know about Saddam. Hell... Liberals were trying to tell your guys not to back that mass murderer going back 20+ years. NOW... "it's imperative that he be removed as a service to mankind..."

How do the wrong wingers compare Franken's tackle or carry to black-helmeted riot police firing tear gas, rubber bullets and bean-bag rounds into crowds of protesters in Portland Oregon who gathered in opposition to Bush's international, economic and environmental policies? story

I understand a family of four is suing because when the father told police he had to get out of there with his three kids, police pepper sprayed the children.

Yeah, that Franken was hard on the LaRouchian.

I'm still looking at what happened. If Franken just tackled a guy who was standing and yelling, then he deserves criticism.

It's important to know how extreme, vicious and nuts some of the Larouche people are. I never could figure out where they get their money (although there were arrests and, I think, convictions on a credit card scam).

People holding a meeting do, at some point have the right to throw people out if they are too disruptive - if they are only yelling to prevent other people from talking.

On the other hand, if anti-war people are too quick to silence demonstrators, then they compromise the right to complain about the "free speech zones" that even silent protestors with signs get thrown into when they are anywhere near a Bush rally.
