"Now ,B>That's A Knife" If I got to sut off an arm or leg, I want something big and sharp!” 9:43:52 PM 1/27/04 “Rad those Mel Pardues are sweet knives. I carry a Benchmade McHenry & Williams designed folder, the blade is half serrated, approx. 4 inches long. I have a Gerber Multi-tool strapped to my pack.” 1:23:11 AM 1/28/04 “I carry one of those .89 keychain knives. If that won't cut it then I shoot it in half with my .44 mag.” 6:02:43 AM 1/28/04 “mostly I carry a Victorinox MiniChamp II ”7:34:07 AM 1/28/04 “for serious trail work I use a 12 inch kukri from Cold Steel” 7:38:57 AM 1/28/04 “I'm sitting in the English office right now and I have a Victorinox Spartan in my pocket and a Leatherman Sideclip on my belt. For hunitng I use the (Canadian) Russell Design award (ab. 4" blades) and for heay camp work I have a Buck #119 (6"). I don't generally bring belt knive while backpacking. I also have a Skatchet, remember those? It's an axe head, sort of, and you can screw a branch into it for a handle.” 7:52:16 AM 1/28/04 Gerber Ridge Knife “Length: open: 5.00 inches closed: 3.00 inches Weight : 1.4 oz. Materials : AUS-6 stainless steel. Black Teflon® coating ”8:08:30 AM 1/28/04 “Yes, I've seen those... you just carry the axe head. Nifty idea.” 8:11:38 AM 1/28/04 “Had to leave my beloved Kukri, which a friend brought back from Nepal, back home. Didn't think they'd be too keen on me bringing it on the flight over here.” 9:12:43 AM 1/28/04 “Back in my canoe camping days, an axe was always strapped to a thwart. Like the Indians, nothing moved anywhere without an axe in the axe or strapped to a thwart. It is the principal and ultimate survival tool up North. It looks as if I've sold a couple of fly reels and I'll be getting and snow saw.” 9:17:34 AM 1/28/04 “Aw, too bad, ynami...just have one of your mates pack it in a box labeled "Terrorist Literature" and it's sure to make it over here no problem, lol...” 9:19:27 AM 1/28/04 “Gerber Ridge Knife...$16 at Target; ultra-small, ultra minimal, ultra useful...stays clipped to my pocket always. Leatherman Wave...$75 just about anywhere. Not light, but tons-o-tools, and comes with nylon sheath.” 5:02:03 PM 1/28/04 2:53:23 PM 1/30/04 “Every day - 3 blade Old Timer carbon steel blades. backpacking - cheap nasty Pakistani knock off of a 3 1/5 inch lockblade Buck. Thinner and lighter than a true Buck, stainless blade that I can abuse the #@$% out of and just resharpen without any guilt.” 3:28:45 PM 1/30/04 “Arrrrr...that's the spirit, lad! Run that rapscallion through before he ravishes your dear ol ma...she'll love ye for it, arrrrrrr” 4:40:01 PM 1/30/04 knife help “Hey -- looking for something like this: Basically. A light knife that could have other functions, that clips onto a) a pack, b) my belt or c) my life vest.” 3:01:39 PM 12/10/04 “Let me try this: ”3:02:50 PM 12/10/04 HEY!!!! “That'd be the first picuture I've ever imbedded. I want that, or something like it, for Christmas. I am looking for the clip first, knife second, auxilary tools third” 3:04:59 PM 12/10/04 “Too complicated for me. I ALWAYS have a Swiss Army knife in my pocket. I usually carry a Leatherman Sideclip. My hunting knife is a Russell Canadian Design Award and my utility knife is a Buck M119 (semi Bowie, 6" blade).” 3:05:32 PM 12/10/04 “Yup. I;ve had a leatherman for years and a swiss army for longer (it must be 19 yrs old, I bought it in Geneva)” 3:07:22 PM 12/10/04 “I carry this one ”3:08:40 PM 12/10/04 “I have a mini-leatherman and a small Swiss Army knife. I think I might have used the leatherman once or twice, and the SAK a few times more than that.” 3:12:27 PM 12/10/04 “I quit taking my leatherman because I didn't use anything but the blade. So why bother.” 3:14:58 PM 12/10/04 “I carry a Swiss Army knife but I've never been happy with the blade edge. Lately I've been thinking of replacing it with this one: http://www.buckknives.com/catalog/detail/269/229” 3:16:17 PM 12/10/04 OKAY YOU DICKEHEADED FREACKIN “CRACKMUNCHING BABIES. (i mean that in the nicest possible way). we are talking about ME ME ME ME. Let's stay focused. I want to know what decent knivs are out there with CLIPS. You know, clip onto belt, or loop or pack or vest. I don't like carryin a leatherman on a belt while packing, or any other belted knife because of the waist belt conflict. NOW> STAY THE FEAK FOCUSED. YOU HAVE 40 MINTUES TO MAKE GOOD RECOMENDATIONS FOR ME ME ME ME ME. I don;t care what YOU carry . .. unless it meets my criteria!!!!!! WIth all due regard and respect, and thanking you in advance for your generous input.” 3:22:56 PM 12/10/04 I carry this one “http://www.swissarmy.com/webstore/images/knives/53941_l.jpg [img]http://www.swissarmy.com/webstore/images/knives/53941_l.jpg[img] (This is my first try at posting stuff like this-in case you can't tell) last edited: 12/10/04 3:29:00 PM” 3:25:53 PM 12/10/04 “boy that worked good. I need instructions.” 3:26:27 PM 12/10/04 “It is supposed to be a Victorinox - Bantam One large bland and a can/bottle opener/screwdriver. Very simple. ONLY about $15.00 last edited: 12/10/04 3:32:49 PM” 3:27:42 PM 12/10/04 3:31:26 PM 12/10/04 “I have one like Ewkers. YOU can clip it, using a lightweight caribiner, to YOUR pack or YOUR belt loop or YOUR life vest, or anything else YOU want it clipped to.” 3:31:42 PM 12/10/04 Hellooooooooo! “IF you follow the link that I posted lee, you'll see that my suggestion meets your criteria.” 3:35:16 PM 12/10/04 This is what I carry... 3:36:36 PM 12/10/04 Skullcapp “Yup. The one you want looks nice. It has a static lanyard type loop instead of a clip, but nice mult-tools. There is another one on that link that has a clip, but no multi features. Couchtater . .. YOU are getting the idea . . .” 3:48:47 PM 12/10/04 “not bad .. not sure about the pocket clip: ”3:54:30 PM 12/10/04 “I carry a military issue michette and a swiss army. I want to get a military issue M9 bayonet made by ontario knife company. Ontario makes the best of the best!” 4:36:48 PM 12/10/04 “MT why on earth carry a machette and a bayonet?! Do you think you are going to meet some mad pygmy backpackers that you will have to hack to bits before they steal your gorp???! So if you bushwack you think you are in the Amazon jungle...mmmm mm mm...I must say you march to a different drummer...” 6:12:01 PM 12/10/04 “Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off! It wasn't my backpacking trip! You asked me I didn't ask you! And I did what I had to do to start a fire, for somebody who wouldn't let me start one! Then I come back to the computer, and I see all these maggots on TT, protestin' me, spittin', callin' me a dickhead and all kinds of vile crap! Who are they to protest me?! Huh?! Who are they?! Unless they been me and been backpacking and know what the hell they yellin' about!” 8:45:46 PM 12/10/04 Check Toollogic “I carry a toollogic knife and love it. they make several knives and other usefull items. Mine has a led flashlight and a wistle molded into the handle. 50/50 serated lockblade that has done well so far.atached a cord through hand and use a beener to hold on life jacked. and it has a clip to.” 9:06:23 PM 12/10/04 My Knife Doubles As A Hiking Staff “ ”10:08:25 PM 12/10/04 “I carry a gerber, nice pocket clip and it is partly serated. I would get any thing complcated or that will would be hard to hold when you need to use it.” 10:26:23 PM 12/10/04 nice knife butter... “I've got one similiar. sword cane...the airports no longer like it very much.” 10:38:17 PM 12/10/04 “Lee, if you're just going to go with a single blade knife with a clip then I would recommend Benchmade. My husband has one of their knives that holds an edge very well. He has used it at work, at home, and backpacking for three years now and it's just as sharp as the day it arrived. It opens one-handed and has a locking blade. It's also very lightweight. They no longer sell the one he has but they have some others on their website that look pretty similar. last edited: 12/11/04 9:44:40 AM” 9:43:38 AM 12/11/04 “lee, check places like Northwest River Supplies and other whitewater/rafting-type outfitters as they usually stock knives that have clips so they can be attached to PFDs. I have seen several in those places that would match your criteria.” 9:57:44 AM 12/11/04
