For hunitng I use the (Canadian) Russell Design award (ab. 4" blades) and for heay camp work I have a Buck #119 (6"). I don't generally bring belt knive while backpacking. I also have a Skatchet, remember those? It's an axe head, sort of, and you can screw a branch into it for a handle.”

I want to know what decent knivs are out there with CLIPS.

You know, clip onto belt, or loop or pack or vest.


I don't like carryin a leatherman on a belt while packing, or any other belted knife because of the waist belt conflict.

Mine has a led flashlight and a wistle molded into the handle. 50/50 serated lockblade that has done well so far.atached a cord through hand and use a beener to hold on life jacked. and it has a clip to.”

“Lee, if you're just going to go with a single blade knife with a clip then I would recommend Benchmade. My husband has one of their knives that holds an edge very well. He has used it at work, at home, and backpacking for three years now and it's just as sharp as the day it arrived. It opens one-handed and has a locking blade. It's also very lightweight. They no longer sell the one he has but they have some others on their website that look pretty similar.

“lee, check places like Northwest River Supplies and other whitewater/rafting-type outfitters as they usually stock knives that have clips so they can be attached to PFDs. I have seen several in those places that would match your criteria.”
