What is heck is going on with BACKPACKER still including non-existence gear from the company and the 'coming soon' website 'Light Is Right', in their Gear Guide?
Light Is Right has been advertising each month for about the last three years in BACKPACKER magazine without producing anything we can actually buy.
In the computer biz, this was called vaporware. I call the Light Is Right 'gear' VaporGear.
Any credibility BACKPACKER may have had in the past is gone.

Backpacker will continue to take the ad money. What do they care if the company ever produces anything or not.

Stop worrying about that stupid magazine and get busy inventing your combination ultralite bag liner/pot stand that you can use as a poncho, tarp, or umbrella :)

Maybe they had a contract for ads and a position in Gear Guide that was already paid for.

richb - For three years?

I posted this same post on backpacker.com forums and have been ignored by bp2go.

I'm as curious as everyone else about this situation. It's a bunch of "bull" to let it go on for this long.

LightIsRight can kiss my tail!

I didn't think it was that long. I don't know what's up with it, but I know I don't need light is right anyway so if they went under it doesn't matter to me.

What's All The Fuss REALLY About???
OK...before I eat cheese with you guys, would someone post what page(s) this "Light Is Right" info is on. I just skimmed through the mag and couldn't find it, but I want to see for myself what all the commotion is about.

Buddur - Look in the Sleeping Bag section and at the website.

They are on page 80 for a listing of the shelters they are supposed to sell. They had ads in the back of the magazine for a few years, but as far as anyone could find, they never actually went into business.

Other than in BACKPACKER magazine, the gear does not exist.

OK, gotcha...I found it. Thanks!

The website is there, albeit under construction. Has anyone called the 1-800- telephone number yet?

Buddur - That 'under construction' website has been the same way for the past three years.
I wonder what they are doing with all that personal info you give them to 'get a catalog'.

I just sent a email to BP mags equipment editor asking if Light is Right is a real company or a scam. I got an out of office until next Monday response. What do you think the odds are that I will hear form him?

Damned if I know, lyra.

So far, all the responding posters to the thread on BACKPACKER.com have been from people that post here also, except for one person.

The backpacker.com folks must be embarrassed by their 'Mother' doing this crap.
The thread is dropping like a rock.

I called the 1-800 number and got a recording to leave my personal info and they'd get back to me.

LMAO!!

I think they're doing market research and selling out info under the table. Right click on their web page and you'll see a url for a web market research company...who also performs web hosting.

Ok ok...we might all be wrong but I think it's very suspicious.

Looks like a beautiful day in the neighborhood. I see some backyard swimming pool gear in a tony Whittier suburb but no warehouse full of backpacking gear around 15784 El Paseo Dr. The business must have expanded beyond their basement confines.

Yep, here is the walk-in shop next to the Guthrie railyard. Looks to be an older 4,000-5,000 sq. ft. per floor building.

Maybe we can get NASA to launch a rover into Guthrie, have it ramble over to 419 W. Vilas Ave. and crane a camera over the rain barrel into the window to see if there is any possibility of life at Light Is Right.
