Toni Barnard of Semmes said she opened a bag of potatoes from Wal-Mart on Schillinger Road on Saturday night. When her back was turned, a snake apparently slithered out of the bag. Her 11-month old son Trevor grabbed it and did what he does with everything these days: he put it in his mouth and took a bite.

Barnard said she got the snake out of her baby's fist, and someone else cut off the snake's head. She said she was told that the snake was a baby copperhead, but be cause it didn't bite her son, he wasn't injured.

Im with Dub,that sounds like a lawsuit scam to me!! Potato chip bags are sealed ,usually anyway ,not enuff air for a snake to live for more than a day or two.

It was a bag of potatoes, not potato chips.

It was a bag of potatoes, not a bag of potato chips. Usually those bags are either mesh or perforated plastic, so something could live in one for a little while.

That's been on the local news a good bit.

It was a bag of potatoes, not potato chips.

It was originally reported that it was a copperhead. It was actually a rat snake.

Violin - how in the world did you find an article on al.com? You're well read, but I'm fairly sure you don't typically peruse the Alabama newspapers.

Never put the words "snake" and "nuts" in the same sentence. Now all we need is a post by Captain Underpants, and the circle will be complete

The kids mother is now scarred for life.

She's going to need say, uh million, to make the pain go away.

The kid probably wants to do it again.
