They're not evil, but had it been a rattler, and had they lived in NE Alabama, a use could have been found for it in one of the rural churches. Those folks have, "foot warshin's and snake handlin's"

I saw a picture of the snake. The poor thing was a baby corn snake. It couldn't hurt you if it tried. They do make very good pets, though. Very docile.
