greenland ice cap crossing!

“If memory serves, the first European to accomplish that was Fridtjof Nansen.... Roald Amundsen's personal hero and somewhat reluctant mentor.
I don't recall if Nansen employed manhauling or emulated the Aleuts' use of dogs and sleds.

I know Scott employed manhualing in the Antarctic, with disastrous results, but he had 19th Century 'technology'. Amundsen learned from the Aleut and lived.
