That is a sweet setup, Svetlina! I am jealous, but not as jealous as I am of the guy at work who just ordered the Canon EOS-1D Mark II, 8.2 megapixel, 8.5 fps. Woo Hoo!

Way cool!
I was looking at the G5, but couldn't raise the bucks, so I went with the A80.

Me thinks your gonna love your new toy!

heheeheheeh... still all giggly. Thanks for the well wishes, other than kleety who just wants to make me covet even more expensive equipment!!! Svetlina tells me to tell you "mur no 8 mp -- thut es miltry kops, rite? -- tulk"

Geo, yup got your stuff, need to peruse it more when I have more time (and am not posting on the net!! lol) Actually, I had done a second story, mostly with REGULAR (LOL!) Council proceedings in it, but I originally had included that junk on the political office debate in the other story. This one I added it back in, it goes in a different publication where there would be no second article.

A mess, huh? lol... well one reason I wanted you to read it (and maybe you'll need to reread, OMG NOT THAT!! lol) is to see if I sound right down the middle or biased either way. Will tell you more on that later. I didn't want to tell you that beforehand because I wanted to see if you would say something, unprompted, about it being skewed one way or the other. You didn't. But now look it over, maybe (I mean only if ya have time, cripes you have your OWN job to do!! If only my editor would do HIS!!)... see if it looks skewed to either "faction." lol

Especially SWEET about getting this is that I just turned in mileage for 1 year and 3 months -- YES< IT'S TRUE AND THEY WILL PAY IT!!

So with that + $200 bucks of my own, I'm getting the whole kit'n'kaboodle. Oh yeah... and my boss(like he isn't taking it in the @@@ already with the mileage) agreed (at least BEFORE the huge mileage check) to pay $100 toward whatever camera I got. And with Canon's rebate... it's almost like I'm almost GETTING PAID to get this stuff. LOL!

Did you have to buy the camera AND the printer to get the rebate?

You're going to love it.
I got the G-2 when they first came out. Dosen't seem like that long ago.

Yup. It was both the high end digital (non SLR) camera and the high-end printer.

Canon also had other rebates of a lesser amount for other combos of cameras and printers. Hey, good on purchases through 1/31!!

The printer goes up to 13x19" borderless prints. It's been a dream of mine to be able to make landscape prints, one at a time, to possibly sell. This will let me do that, once I figure it all out. Bye, bye to slides and scanning (although I could use a slide scanner for my thousands of slides all over!) The G5 at 5MP is supposed to have the quality to go to 13x19.

Good deal then. 5 MP is plenty for a big print although you might consider having it printed at a lab if you're looking to sell them - just so it lasts longer as the buyer can't reprint it when it fades.
VioLiN

Looked into that. To make prints economical enough to make some moola, I needed to get around at least 5 big prints. And depending on what the print was of, could a person sell enough to make any money?

I once had a guy buy two prints (lab prints, which by the way, were printed way darker than the slides. My sunny river shot with clouds became a moody river shot! lol). I had five printed. Sold the two, entered one in a contest (and it now is framed at an area residental environmental learning center, right in their gourmet dining room), and I still have one to sell and one to keep.

Also, as far as going to a lab, it's easier when you're actually in a city, I think, and can deal face to face with lab people... as opposed to being in the boonies like I am. Believe me, I've looked at both lab and inkjet options. And like I said above, have had bad prints come back and then you have to deal with UPS or Fed Ex (are they gonna leave it outside in the rain?) and that kinda stuff.

Also, I think there's a lot of people selling inkjets any more and you can get archive paper. One shop that expressed interest in my prints had a disclaimer on other prints warning to keep them out of the light. I thought the sticker was a good idea.

The fading issue has a lot more to do with the ink than the prints. I don't know of there is a decent solution out there yet though.

This seems like a good thread to ask a question about some trouble I have had with my camera.

I have a Cannon Rebel SR II or something like that. Sometimes when I take pictures using auto focus, the picture turns out all blury. WTF! Is the camera a piece of #&%!$tt? Am I doing something wrong?

Anyone?

Lizs - For about how much would a good, large picture sell? I'm wondering how good the market would be for the pictures.

I curious since my daughter has been selling paintings (hers) on the net. Recently she sold some large ones for $400, 395 and 385.

Your information will be appreciated. Thanks.

difficult to say WK - it could be camera shake that's an issue - or it could be focusing on something else in the shot. - or the camrera could be #&%!$ed.
If everything is out of focus then there could be a problem.

Hey--cool!! New toys are ... six different endings to this sentance.

My mother gets her slides blown up huge--they are all over our house--everywhere my grandmother's oil paintings are not. I do try and keep all photos out of the sun no matter how they are printed. I had a batik on a sunny wall and dang near ruined it.

NS... I'll write you on that. I did a lot of agonizing and research on that about 4 or 5 years ago, which is when I sold the two prints.

I finally came up with a price and then justified a discount for a second print of the same thing. I sold just the prints, no mats or framing.

It's hard to justify photos as ART to some people, but that's what they are when you're in this kind of work.

I'll write ya the prices. Ummm, if I can remember. NOT near what you were talking there, whatever that all includes. (matting and framing??)

No frames. Don't know about the matting.

Her work is sort of the modern stuff. Portraits were $50 each.

I justify nothing.
I shot it/painted it/drew it/built it.
You want it? Then pay my price or get lost.
