its 14 degrees here and with the windchill it feels like one. That's pretty cold for us down her in the south. Next week I am bp'g on Mt. LeConte in the Smokies and staying in the shelter atop the mountain. Not sure what to expect weatherwise on the top of that alpine peak.

its in the 50s in Florida right now. Jacksonville, where it is 54 is only 7 hours to the south of here. Such a difference in temperature.

A 0F summer bag! That's insane. The -3F wasn't so bad. How cold does it have to be before you start dying quickly?

And Dub- don't mock our summer bags unless you are prepared to see snow in july.

I'd love to see snow in July. Hopefully it will still be on Mt. Washington this summer when I go to bp in the whites. It can snow anytime of year on some of the mountains above 6k down here but I don't think its much between april and september.

you forgot the roll-over part.

I did see snow in July once when I went to Yellowstone. I was really amazed. What made it even more fun was that I was wearing shorts and it was 70F outside.

-3F didn't feel cold enough to kill you...seemed like it was just cold enough to piss you off. Now maybe if you were naked (I had on jeans and a t-shirt) then it might kill ya.

i dunno, and my 0 degree summer bag is not 0 degrees any more, i know it's heavy, the 0 degree bag was to cover for all seasons because i'm too cheap to buy more than one bag, now i don't really have a summer bag, that's one of my next purchases though
simer190

1/31/04

how big is your other bag?
helinka
2:52:26 AM
1/31/04

big enough for me... i don't know the weight, all i knwo is that it keeps me warm, that's what matters... it packs down, not real small but small enough for me...

I am also located in Middle Tn. Not sure about this time of year but the last time I did LeConte it was about 15 degree's colder at the lodge than the trail head. So if it's say 15 degrees here it will probably be 0 to -5 degree's at the top with lots of snow. Plus wind chill to consider, and it is usually windy, Good Luck, Say warm!

Hi Ewker
HPM that is just cruel.

I just checked the thermometer I stuck between the windows: -6!!!!!
that means the roads will be nice & slushy tomorrow. I think I'd rather have colder than that sloppy mess.
