I know what you mean IB. I like the unofficial name of NY's Mount Marcy of Tahawus, which means Cloud Slitter.

The DE high pt is a trailer park just below the PA state line, I think along route 202.

wow
Mt. Sunflower rises nearly 4000 feet above it's base which is basically the other side of the state with Mt. Sunflower being near the border with CO.

Which state has Britton Hill? Is that LA?

Britton Hill is Fla. LA is Driskill Mountain. Believe it or not, you have a 1 mile hike, 125 feet elevation gain in LA. When you start at 0.......

the FL high point is disputed. I think OPIE's parent's own the land it is on or something like that.

You know, as weenie as Mt Sunflower sounds, the real kicker is that it's still more than twice as high as NJ's High Point, cleverly named High Point (some 1800 and change feet)...

There may be a dispute over what the high point of FL is called, Lakewood Park or Britton Hill, but within the Highpointers Club, at least, there's no dispute over where it is. There's a big monument placed by the state at the highpoint.

couchtater...i need to take some measurements...the monument was placed in that park due to it being close to a half way decent road in those parts. I have heard it called Britton Hill by out of towners....Lakewood is the name of the old town...and area. That area of Lakewood was actually a black sharecropper settlement called something else.

It makes my pride swell, just to think of the heights of Mt Sunflower and how unattainable they are.

Opie- that'd be great. The Highpointers Club has a liaison for Florida that's been involved in getting road signs placed, etc. If you need some help I can get y'all in touch with each other.

not sure? I just moved there. So far I know where the Park City Mall is. I'm still finding my way around. I'm a Reading native though, but Lancaster is still unfamilliar to me.

I won't go spelunking again. My family was in funeral biz, only go under ground at the end!
I'll keep you in mind if I go and won't have 18 boys with me!

I hope to hit that sometime soon.

I'm thinking about taking a day here soon and getting PA (Mt. Davis) and MD (Backbone Mountain). Both are pretty close to eachother. Mt. Davis is a drive up, I don't think there is a way to hike it, unless you hike up the road as far as I know. I think Davis is really just a knob on the Allegheny Plateau more or less. Backbone Mtn I think is the same.

I also hope to hit up, Mt. Greylock (MA), Mt. Marcy (NY) and Mt. Rogers (VA) yet this year.

Hey, what is that tower in that shot? It looks to be in the distance enough that it should rival the Washington Monument. Is it really tall?

That's High Point Monument in NJ. Built as a war memorial. I think it's about a hundred feet or so.

*Correction 220 feet.

it's the highest mountain completely in CT, but the actual highest point is on the south slope of Mt. Frissel which is a mountain in MA, but near the border with in CT.

I hope to add in 2007, Mt. Rogers, VA; Mt. Marcy, NY; Mt. Elbert, CO and Mt. Rainier, WA.
