“Yeah Wolfeyes, credit cards via PayPal sucks. I sell a lot on eBay and no matter what the auction ends at, $1, $100, they always want to use PayPal. It wouldn't be so bad if eBay didn't charge you fees as well. I try to make them pay to my std account without a credit card to save money.”

“StoveStomper, In some states the customer can be assessed a surcharge for using a credit card. However, there are laws against credit card surcharges in CA, CO, CT, FL, KS, MA, ME, NY, OK and TX. Additionally, Visa and MasterCard prohibit surcharges. American Express discourages them in general, and prohibits merchants from charging them if they also accept MasterCard or Visa. Discover allows surcharges on credit card purchases except in the above states. According to Bankcard Holders of America, there is one exception to the no surcharge law. If you pay state license fees by credit card, you may have to pay a surcharge. There are no exceptions for retail merchants.

eBay is where I learned about it. It is also against PayPal's policy.

I understand Wolfeyes pain in accepting credit card. Currently PayPal charges 2.9% + $.30 per credit card transaction. So even if she did charge $3.50 for CC payments, she would only get $3.09 after the fees. Half of the people paying with CC's would send $3 by not following instructions (as she said earlier in the thread 2 already paid with credit cards, not following her repeated instructions) and she'd only get $2.61, effectively losing money.

But you're right StoveStomper, she could charge whatever she wants. And if she wanted to charge extra for credit card payments as you suggested she could and I'm sure no one here would say anything about it as for the most part everyone is cool with each other. However, even with a private vendor or person, charging extra for the use of a credit card violates laws in some states, PayPal's Policy, and Visa/MC/Amex's policy as well. I just wanted to point out that out as I've charged surcharges over the internet before and people have threatened to turn me in. I'm sure no legit TTer would do such a thing, but trolls and other #&%!$s on the board wanting to stir up #&%!$ might say something to PayPal who could check the forum, verify against her account, and then suspend Wolfeye's account where she'd lose all the money gathered so far. I support her decision to NOT accept CC's...they are a pain in the ass, especially through PayPal.
