Be There Or Be Square
If anybody's interested, I'll be kicking some major ass snowshoeing tommorrow, and if anybody can join me you're more than welcome to tag along. We'd meet at the Barkeyville exit on I-80 just East of I-79 whenever's possible (~10am-12noon).

I can assure you that anyone who goes will get their butt kicked and love every minute of it.

Are you going to do that one hill we did? LOL! I have no doubt it'll kick all forms of a$$!

Yup!
Nigal, I did that hill just last weekend. Actually, it was literally the same "down and up" that we did. You wouldn't believe how much easier it was with all this snow on the ground and wearing snowshoes. And soooo beautiful, too.

Man, wish I could make it up there and go. 4 hours each way is too much for a dayhike though. Especially one of YOUR dayhikes!

Noone Would've Kept Up..........Noone!
4hr 34min and +/-1470' elevation gain/loss later, the best snowshoe dayhike ended with one pooped dog.

Now that's a classic Tom picture! Did you have to time that just right or did someone take it for you?

What peak did you bag that had that much elevation gain in PA.? It sounds like a nice climb.

A Diamond In The Rough
Nigal, I took the pic myself using the timer. It took almost ten photos till I got this one, and this pic just so happened to be the one I hit the ground hard cause I had the area pretty much packed down from all the other jumps but failed to land in fluff on this jump. I deleated most of the other pics but did save a few. The one I now wish I'd've kept is the one where all you could see of me is my knees down...at the top of the picture.

Richb, there is about 500' relief from the Allegheny River to the top of the surrounding land, and well, I did alot of ups and downs from one place to another during this hike.

Because of all the snow and being able to "make steps" with my snowshoes, I was able to hit slopes that are pretty much unhikeable in the Summer. Like the slope that parallels the river, I contoured it about 100' below the top for about a mile. Poor Buddur, you should've seen the look on his face when I first dropped in on this icy steepass slope, THEN contouring the rest of the hillside. I think he hated that part of the hike. lol

And I cannot see my pic anymore, all I see is a box with a red x. 8(

I couldn't see the picture either. I think I remember driving across that river when I drove across the state on I-80 a few years ago. Sounds like a pretty cool hike. At first I thought you bagged a peak. There is a climb on the mid state trail that gains 1400 feet called Houselander Mt. at Pine Creek. I hiked it last Sept. with Jmitch and Pennsy.
