New sleeping bag
I am looking at the Moonstone Lucid 800 it's a 20 F bag that weighs 1 lb 12 oz and is on sale for $229.00 and free shipping?
Has anyone dealt with Moonstone or know of their sleeping bags?

Love my Moonstone Bag.
Excellent bags. High quality. Narrow and shorter then other bags claming to be regular. I have the Polarguard version of the Lucid for my wet weather bag. the Pertex 1.1oz shell is suprisingly durable and the interior has a nice hand (though not nearly as nice as the Pertex Quantaum of my Western Mountaineering). Their snag guard is second only to WM
s, on par with Marmots. Thier hood design is very roomy and they have one of the best footbox shapes I've used. They are a bit narrow through the shoulders (59" for the regular). You can see my review of my Moonstone Stratus on backpackgeartest.org. It's the same as the Lucid except the ludic had baffles filled with down instead of a solid sheet of polarguard.

Its a very good deal and you should get it?But I have a question Tango how often are you going to need a bag like that when you said that you don't like cold weather backpacking????

Just a thought.

Rather be too hot than too cold
I could have used it Sat. night! It will be my lightest and smallest bag and it has a full zip so if I actually get warm. I found my synthetic has many cold spots and it's a bit bulky so time for a new one.

They sold lots of bags in the 80s and 90s and seemed to have a very good reputation.

(I had a nice polartec 200 jacket made by Moonstone that somebody swiped... ! <grrrrrr>)

Well, I was looking at Feathered friends Egret, Golite Feather trim (female), Marmot Helium, Western Mountaineering Ultralight, Mountain Hardwear Phantom 15. All are under 2 lbs and 20 or 15 degree bags but all are close to $300. So when I found the Moonstone for $229, that's the one for me unless someone here had horror stories about the company or something.

A review...
Have you seen the review at The Lightweight Backpacking web page? You can see how it stood up against other similar bags.

Moonstone Rules!
They have hte best gear, IMHO. I am the proud owner of the Cirrus vest and jacket, along with the Cirrus snow pants...Out standing stuff. I've never had enough sheckles to gets me one of dose bags, but if I had the chance, I wouldn't blink twice.

I picked up a mtn hdwre 2d dimension bag as a back up. If the
forecast is too iffy on the 20*
temps, chances are I'll have to sleep half out of the moonstone 15* bag.Unzipped is still too warm!

Tango, I have two moonstone down bags, one is 35-45 degrees and one is 10-25 degrees, both size short. I really love them, they are very soft, relatively warm (I sleep cold so I use the 10-25 degree for 35 degree nights). I have broad shoulders for a girl, and I find the size very comfortable. I have an REI Sub Kilo 20 degree bag and both my Moonstones have way more down fluff than the REI.

Thank you for the help!
I sleep very cold, I suspect my numbers are very close to your temps LyndyS.

Well that does it. The Moonstone is mine in about an hour from now!

Tango, I have the one you are talking about. I sleep hot so for me it's a good winter bag. I use it in the summer but sleep on top of it most of the time. It's very light and packs small. That price is also a good deal. I'd get it if I were you.

I bought two Moonestone 800 Lucid bags, one regular and one long (for the extra shoulder width for me), for Mother G and myself. I love the bags. The regular bag was $225.00 and the long was $229.00. I can't remember off the top of my head who I bought 'em from but they got the bags to me within two days from Texas. $229.00 is a good price for the bag, Tango. Buy it, you'll be glad you did.

Moonstone is OOB got bought out by Columbia. Columbia threw the Baby out w/ the bathwater by nixing the whole company. I Hear Columbia is honoring the waranty of Moonstone and they may bring the line back. I have my eyes on the Lucid as well. Hey Tango is there a link for the site you bought from?
