If they knew there was a problem and did nothing then nail 'em. I'd rather us look at other energy sources all together than gas for cars. That'd be great.” 2:20:36 PM 7/07/04 “I was fortunate enough to attend Kerry & Edwards rally today in Cleveland. I was about ten feet away, and had a nice view of Vanessa Kerry, man that chick is HOT! Anyway, besides the four (4) Kerry protestors (Cheney had around 2,000 protestors last week), it went just fine. After the rally, a bunch of us went out to eat, and truned on FoxNews. I saw Mr. Fair & Balanced himself, Carl Cameron at the event, and then as he did his live report after it was over. One of this stellar reporter's few sound bites was of Kerry jokingly saying that he and Edwards had better hair. He told the joke to inject some humor in the speech, but ole' Carl played the bit, then rolled his eyes. FoxNews is really a complete joke, and should be sued for using the term "Fair and Balanced". John Glenn also spoke at the event, and he's looking as spry as ever. He gave an excellent speech, and is truely one of America's finest citizens.” 2:23:06 PM 7/07/04 “Anyone who hasn't read John Glenn's autobiography should do so. He is a true American Hero.” 2:26:56 PM 7/07/04 “You know, they DO have better hair. My kids have some toy that came with a miniature TIME mag. The cover is John Glenn in his spacesuit back in the day. It's a closeup of his face. My 2 y.o. always points to it and says, "That's John Glenn!" Kinda cute.” 2:35:06 PM 7/07/04 “"Dubya's still lookin' for that clue, though!" MarkO He's still lookin' for a lot of things ... Osama bin Laden, WMD, Saddam-al Qaeda link, ...” 2:59:18 PM 7/07/04 “... gated chads ...” 2:59:57 PM 7/07/04 “Ya can never have too many gated chads. No telling when they might come in useful.” 3:03:10 PM 7/07/04 “Yay, Buddha!!” 3:31:03 PM 7/07/04 “"Why would sKerry run on a platform of restoring us to foreign powers around the world and then pick a running mate with zero experience in foreign affairs?" -Nigal 08:38:51 AM 07/07/04 Orin Hatch to George W. Bush in 2000: My only problem with you, governor, is that you've only had forum going into your fifth year in governorship and a constitutional weak governorship. And frankly, I really believe that you need more experience before you become president of the United States. That's why I'm thinking of you as a vice presidential candidate.” 3:38:50 PM 7/07/04 “I think people have said it before - that it's laughable to criticize Edwards about a lack of knowledge on foreign affairs while having voted for Bush in 2000. It's also difficult to see how anyone can do a worse job at maintaining international relations than GW and his crew. To say they've been naive is the understatement of the century.” 3:45:35 PM 7/07/04 “Yes, Ynami, but Daddy taught him all he needs to know about evildoers when he took Georgie to the White House for "Take Your Son To Work Day." Those evildoing evildoers wanted to kill Daddy, don't you know. They're bad, bad men who keep WMDs under their pillows, they really do!” 3:58:12 PM 7/07/04 “I'm surprised Matt hasn't relabled this thread Fuego yet. Must have taken the day off to go backpacking.” 3:59:21 PM 7/07/04 “Once again Violin doesn't want to keep the focus on sKerry and tries to turn everything against Bush. Sorry, no dodging allowed.” 4:13:24 PM 7/07/04 “"Sorry, no dodging allowed."* * Does not apply to persons named George W. Bush regarding service in the Texas Air National Guard.” 4:21:37 PM 7/07/04 “My first thought when I heard Bushes swipe at Edward's taking over as Pres.. "‘Dick Cheney can be president,’ he says in North Carolina" Was....well, who the hell would want Cheney as Pres, that alone is reason enough to vote for Kerry/Edwards..” 4:27:37 PM 7/07/04 “Gee Buddha, I figured a sKerry worshipper such as yerself would appreciate a good dodging…I threw my medals…no, I threw someone else’s…no, they were ribbons…I have five suvs…no, they belong to my family…I voted for the $87 billion…I voted against the $87 billion… Shewww! I’m getting’ dizzy!” 4:31:04 PM 7/07/04 Gee, kinda like... “Its about WMD... OK, there not there We don't need the UN.. Hey guys, why won't you help us Its about the link to al-Qaida .. ask Cheney It's about saving the poor people from a mad man... I'll come up with something” 4:40:57 PM 7/07/04 “Whassamattah MtnSteve, can't figure out which walnut shell the bean is under? Watch his hands carefully this time ...” 4:42:43 PM 7/07/04 “I forgot about Bushes misleading Congress about the costs of Medicare "reform" He gives new meaning to the word sleaze.” 4:43:21 PM 7/07/04 “Focus, steve, focus. Watch his hands.” 4:45:29 PM 7/07/04 “Despite being an early Wes Clark supporter, I think Edwards was a great choice. If Kerry lives up to his potential, we could be looking at 16 years of Democratic presidents. That just might be enough time to undo the damage of the last 3½ years.” 4:46:45 PM 7/07/04 “You definitely don't have a future in comedy.” 4:56:15 PM 7/07/04 “Cripes! Why do I sence the fact that we've done this before, nigal? Bush to Reagan = Voodoo Ecomonics. Everyone should concider the sources of which their inforamtion came from. To not look at the other side and many sources to confirm the facts, is to keep uninformed and rely on "misinformation", to give ya another Reaganism. To try and spin this situation as another "Kerry flip flop", is just plain wrong. They all do it, Bush included. Just because you don't like Kerry and that's your choice, does not mean that it's proper to drap the flag around G.W. HIS flip flops have cost more lives than all of Kerry's, times 10. Accept it and move on. Just by the shear fact that the Repubs have had control of both Congress and teh White House, and we sit hear still without a budget gfoes to show that they need to be broke up again. The Repubs should be in gravy right now, but have shot themselves in the foot. Throw them out and get some others in there. It's very clear that they can't cut it.” 5:37:42 PM 7/07/04 “Laqtis, statements made by Nigal are uneducated, misleading and driven by ignorance. Once you undertand this, ignoring him will be much easier. BTW - Did you end up selling that camper of yours yet?” 5:48:31 PM 7/07/04 “BB - I really don't agree. I think that he is very informed; however, he is motivated by his feelings against Kerry, which is fine. He votes for Bush for some of the same feelings you and I will vote against Bush. I don't want to ignore him at all, really. To do so would to become what I dislike: a hyprocrite. We all have the right to express our opinions here, I just feel that past points are forgotten and we keep traveling the same road and getting nothing new done. Maybe it could be that fact that this election process this time around is very passionate, for one, and second, we've all been here for many, many months disscussing these issues, with very few people changeing their opinions. I, for one, have and I know that you have also, but I feel that these changes are the minority. The goot thing is that we can still get together and melt some 40's and have a goot chuckle, at least I hope that's the case. I've seen too many friendships severed over little things to know that it's not worth getting worked up over. Yep, I'll lash out with the best of them, but in the end (and after I give a few kicks in the ass!), I would have no problem hiking with most of the people with which I disagree with, save a choice three (but, after that Alaska BS, were a few of my friends took heat because of the "private trip" issue, that list just might grow by a couple). I feel that THIS is one of the many tings still left in this country that we can all hang our hats on: The freedom to express ourselves. We should never poo poo it. BTW - I got rid of the camper by donating it to the Vollenteers of America. I hope they put it to good use. Also, I hope that you might keep Thanksgiving Day night and the weekend open, cause I'm coming out to PA (you're right on the way, bro!) and I hope to see some of the TT peeps out there. Maybe we'll have the pease pipe out there as well. It's been too long since we've shared the trail, too long indeed......! Detail are very forth coming!” 7:12:41 PM 7/07/04 “hey nigal.....why do you purposely misspell kerry.....that skerry crap is childish maybe if you stopped acting like an immature little p r i c k people would listen to you...grow up” 10:39:30 PM 7/07/04 “I'm looking forward to both the presidential and vice presidential debates. This is gonna be fun.” 11:41:03 PM 7/07/04 “I just made a connection... Something (God only knows what) reminded me of that machine Dan Aykroyd had in that wacked out movie, Nothing But Trouble. He, as the Creepy Judge, would pull a switch; the offenders would drop through a trapdoor, be zipped along under the mansion on various belts and whatnot, only to be run through a huge shredder and a pile of bones would fly out the back! And it occurred to me.... After Bush had trotted out all the reasons for the invasion, from 'nuclear capability in a year' through the fake uranium ore, and the hundreds of tons of chemicals, to the final "Saddam's a Really Bad Guy, look what he did to people".... That last one had one particularly horrific story attached. Although it was never substantiated, it was often repeated (a well established pattern by that time), that Saddam had some kind of industrial plastic or tire shredder, ostensibly in Abu Ghraib, that he would toss political prisoners into from time to time. NOW I think I know where that story came from -----” 12:43:26 AM 7/08/04 “ ”8:45:20 AM 7/08/04 “"Laqtis, statements made by Nigal are uneducated, misleading and driven by ignorance. Once you undertand this, ignoring him will be much easier.” Your egomania is amazing! LOL! Well of course I’m ignorant and misinformed…I don’t agree with you so, therefore, I am stupid. I may be dumb and I may be stupid but at least I’m smart enough to know “undertand” is actually spelled “underStand”.” 8:45:41 AM 7/08/04 “"hey nigal.....why do you purposely misspell kerry.....that skerry crap is childish maybe if you stopped acting like an immature little p r i c k people would listen to you...grow up" Jo it truly does pain me that you do not care for me. I mean after all the great times we’ve had and everything we’ve been through…oh wait, you’ve never met me and don’t know me. LOL! How’s about you click the little ignore button and quite whining like a little bltch? Jo don't like me! WHAAAAAA!” 8:48:48 AM 7/08/04 “Excerpted from The Charlotte Observer: The National Journal, a nonpartisan magazine that follows Congress, [...] found Edwards more liberal than 63 percent of his Senate colleagues in 2002. Put another way: He was more conservative than all but 10 of the Senate's 50 Democrats. Over his four years, the magazine said, Edwards fell into the "moderate to conservative range" of Democrats. [...] Last year he was among 21 senators from both parties the magazine called the "ideological center."” 12:36:58 PM 7/08/04 “So he's a just a Regular Commie as opposed to a Flaming Commie, LOL” 12:45:37 PM 7/08/04 “Well to the right wing, that looks left!” 12:45:56 PM 7/08/04 “The National Journal has Edwards ranked as the 4th most liberal in Washington. How's that moderate? "And although he has attempted to portray himself as a more moderate alternative to Kerry on the campaign trail, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) was ranked as the fourth most liberal Senator in 2003 with a rating of 94.5. Like Kerry, Edwards also missed many of the votes used in the survey because he was campaigning for president."” 2:06:49 PM 7/08/04 “I voted for Edwards in the primaries because he is a centrist. I voted for McCain in 2000 because he is a centrist. The Republican Party would not support Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan or Gerald Ford today. They are/were too liberal. The Democrats went too liberal in the 60s and 70s. They've paid the price for decades. In recent years, the Republicans have made the same mistake. This country is a moderate/centrist country. I have come up with the Bob Dole test. Bob Dole is pretty much silent these days. It's because he knows that Bush is too far right and will probably lose. If Bob Dole starts speaking out, then you know things are on the right track.” 2:10:31 PM 7/08/04 “That sounds just like something Bob Dole would say....” 2:18:18 PM 7/08/04 “Bob Dole: Bob Dole knows a sinking ship when Bob Dole sees one.” 2:25:51 PM 7/08/04 “"I voted for Edwards in the primaries because he is a centrist." What the hell? The guy's more liberal than Ted Kennedy!” 2:32:49 PM 7/08/04 “And probably a better driver too.” 2:39:06 PM 7/08/04 “Nigal - everyone is liberal to you. So what if he tries to go into the middle. It's what they all do. Bush tried to portay himself and a centerist in 2,000, then American ended up with a tax-cuts for the rich, invade other countries, pander to the religious right conservative. It's all part of the game. The way they are trying to go after Edwards shows they're scared of him. It's comical thay thay've picked something their own team is so weak on to attack him about.” 2:44:04 PM 7/08/04 “"Nigal - everyone is liberal to you......" Excellent point. Just what IS a liberial? Anyone who thinks more freely and opened minded than you (meaning the person asking the question).” 4:01:10 PM 7/08/04 Can we stop the name calling, please? “What sooooo many fail to understand is that the "right" or the "left" aren't good guys or bad guys, evil or whatever. At tehrir core, they just believe there are different paths to the same ends. Example: Someone is destitute & hungry. The left would create a govenment program to feed him. Good intentions certainly. The right would ask him to get a job. Same end, differnt means. As a conservative (and no, that doesn't mean bush supporter, that simply means I belive in conservative ideals), I think the best thing to do FOR EVERYONE's benefit is to ask the guy to get a job. That way, I get to keep my hard-earned money & don't have to give it away, and he (the destitute guy) gets to eat, gains some self-respect and actually contributes to society rather than suckles from it. Why is that so hard to understand?” 4:12:41 PM 7/08/04 “Can we stop the name calling, please? "What sooooo many fail to understand is that the "right" or the "left" aren't good guys or bad guys, evil or whatever. At tehrir core, they just believe there are different paths to the same ends. Are you talking about what Dick Cheney said to Patrick Leahy?” 4:16:52 PM 7/08/04 “Give up! Bush will be re-elected.” 4:18:57 PM 7/08/04 “Geobeet, I was hoping to elevate the discussion to one of ideals / priniciples, not individual character assessments. That's why I stated that, just because I believe in conservative principles, that doesn't necessarily mean I have or will vote for GW. Also doesn't mean I agree /disagree with the Cheney / Leahy exchange... this is supposed to be a conversation about principles.. not individual characters. There are enough bad examples, on BOTH sides of the isle, to keep us going forever. How about raising this discussion to a higher level???” 4:22:41 PM 7/08/04 “"Geobeet, I was hoping to elevate the discussion to one of ideals / priniciples, not individual character assessments...." YES -- YES -- and more YES!!! Thank you, wan. You have two beers waiting for you when you reach the Great State of Michigan!” 4:29:38 PM 7/08/04 “BAD news for you Laq, I am just changing jobs & will be traveling to Michigan on biz, SO.... WE\'RE GONNA HAVE TO HAVE BEERS & I\'M GONNA ASK YOU TO BUY MY FISRT TWO!! But, in return, I\'ll bring my pic\'s of high-Sierra BP trips & we\'ll drool together. Just went over Moono Pass this weekend, took 108 pic\'s, still didn\'t capture the beauty / majesty. WAIT... I\'M SORRY... this was supposed to be a petty bickering political thread.... not backpacking-oriented,,, I\'m sorry I digressed. BTW, I used to live on ten-mile rd in Oak Park.... where are you?” 4:35:35 PM 7/08/04 “My keyboard /CAPS lock is sticking / doing strange things for some reason... sorry for the typo's” 4:37:19 PM 7/08/04 “You spilled beer in it?” 4:45:35 PM 7/08/04 Jump to Page << prev
