HEY, STOVESTOMPER!!!View MessagesSipsey Bushwhack... “Hiya, Stovie. I have been experimenting with a few soda can stove designs of late, and I think I have come up with a good one. So, O Master of Stovation, I hereby challenge you to a Stoveoff at Sipsey. One pint of water at 20 paces (or one ounce +/- of alcohol). First one to a full rolling boil wins. Whaddaya say, Bubba???” 10:14:55 AM 2/11/04 “I will be the judge, dayhiker can hold the money.” 10:19:12 AM 2/11/04 “I go for quality, not speed.... ;-) The fastest stoves are the 'cat can' types, but they go thru a lot of alcohol quickly. With my stoves, I try to balance time to boil with efficiency. I can usually get a good pint boiling in about 6-8 minutes with 0.7-0.8 fl oz alcohol. The stoves are so light the big factor in weight is the amount of fuel you much carry for x number of meals.” 10:22:06 AM 2/11/04 “MONEY??? PTOOOOIEEEEE!!! This is for God And Country (or maybe a couple of beers)!!! Glory!!! Money, hah!!! What the hell would ya expect from a friggin' attorney??? SHEESH!!! ...money, fer chrissakes...” 10:24:11 AM 2/11/04 “Sounds like ya wussing out to me stove!” 10:24:19 AM 2/11/04 “I reiterate, Stove, fuel/boil. You got the huevos, boy??? Dang, son, you're the Master. Who else am I gonna challenge???” 10:27:42 AM 2/11/04 “I would say that the stove-off should be which stove boils a cup of water using the least ammount of fuel. My one can stove with integrated put holder can boil a cup of water using less then 1/2oz of fuel... and when the water boils I can shut it off and conserve the leftover fuel to boot.” 10:32:04 AM 2/11/04 “Well if you are competing for beer, then I change my mind. Dayhiker can judge, I will hold the beer.” 10:33:29 AM 2/11/04 “What do people want, a Prius or a Ferrari?” 10:33:40 AM 2/11/04 “We want explosions and burning eyebrows!” 10:34:40 AM 2/11/04 “Deodorex, my challenge is TWO cups of water using the least amount of fuel. If'n you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch...” 10:36:10 AM 2/11/04 “Oh I do love a good challenge..... This is going to be a great trip...Sipsey Bushwack 1 and right in my backyard...wooohooo....I am sooo looking forward to seeing everyone again and meeting new TTers!!! and I get to remeet Bama...I went fishing with Bama and his wonderful family YEARS ago...maybe ( if he knows it) he can tell the great story about the guy "catching" the trout and cooking them on a hunting trip.....way funny!!!!” 10:38:14 AM 2/11/04 “Yer right, darlin'. BAMA's about as good as they come...” 10:42:26 AM 2/11/04 “The most efficient design is Sgt Rock's ION, but it is pretty slow to boil. The cook pot also has a huge effect on boil times. Different pots will have different times to boil. A straight up contest would require same pot, same temp water, same quanity water, same pot holder, ect. Don't get me wrong, I've got some real hotrods I've made, but don't really use them camping. I like the simple, easy, just pour alcohol in, light, and boil types. My fav right now is a modified Sgt Rock ION made from little grape juice cans . I added double the jet holes to speed it up a bit. The thing I love about it is it will only hold a max of 1 fl oz of fuel so I never waste extra fuel. The full size 'pepsi' burners can be way overfilled.” 10:43:47 AM 2/11/04 “So are you pussin' out on me, or what???” 10:46:45 AM 2/11/04 “Pepsi can (or other homemade variety) stove, MSR Titan Kettle, 1 pint water, same amount of methanol...” 10:49:12 AM 2/11/04 “FG, you are a cooked Goose. Your little amateurish burner can't hang with THE BIG DAWG'S. ;-) Might be fun to have more than just us in this contest. I'll need someone like HOI to really make it a contest. ;-)” 10:52:50 AM 2/11/04 “Let's do it!!! It can be a very educational experience!!!” 10:55:10 AM 2/11/04 “MSR Titan Kettle sucks. ;-) I gave mine away after timing it with my Evernew 0.9 L Ti pot. The Evernew pot was at least 30-45 seconds faster that the MSR. The bottom surface area is key.” 10:57:27 AM 2/11/04 “Ok to sneek in a little oxygen? Won't be much left to the stove but oh boy can you boil water fast (GRIN)” 10:57:31 AM 2/11/04 “This is actually Sipey III. Year 1 (me, MDS, and sandy) It was a rainy weekend and lots of folks bailed. Year II (Arky, Cocoa Williams, MDS, Cocoa's brother, me, and some local friends) chili had to bail because of some woman, Dunadan bailed due to distance, and arclite's mom was in ill health. This trip was really called Footballapalooza II. We did bushwhack West Bee and I felll of the top of a 15' boulder. A good time was had by all. chili, since you're an attorny, I'll defer to you to judge the event. I'll hold the beer.” 11:02:59 AM 2/11/04 “No, no, engineering guys need to judge this technical event. The lawyers need to hold the beer.” 11:04:39 AM 2/11/04 “You call it. Same pot, same amount of methanol, 1 pint of water. You fookin' weenie, you're tryin' to weasel out of this, ain't ya??? ;-)” 11:04:48 AM 2/11/04 “Technical? Anyone with a watch that can tell when something bubbles will do, that's why it needs to be a lawyer. I need to scientifically determine the ideal temperature of beer in the woods.” 11:06:53 AM 2/11/04 “No way Goose boy! You are going down! ;-)” 11:08:33 AM 2/11/04 “Stovie's a pu$$y, Stovie's a pu$$y...” 11:08:46 AM 2/11/04 “Boys....boys......no name calling!!!” 11:13:24 AM 2/11/04 “Just out of curiosity, are most folks showing up Thur or Fri?” 11:15:10 AM 2/11/04 “Stay out of this Di. Tend to yer knittin'...this is a Manly thread, LOL!” 11:15:48 AM 2/11/04 “Mother G and I plan on showin' up Thursday...” 11:17:17 AM 2/11/04 “I'm comin Wed eve!!!!” 11:18:40 AM 2/11/04 “LOL I'm thinking use whatever pot, stand, windscreen you want, but must be real backpacking stuff. Same amount and temp water. Time starts when the match is lit. Boil is when the water hits 211 degrees with a digital temp. The bubbles start way before a real boil.” 11:19:15 AM 2/11/04 “So, you're hedging your bets so that FG won't put salt in the water to change the boil temp. Can't get much past you.” 11:20:19 AM 2/11/04 “You're on, my friend!!! But the temp needs to be 212...” 11:20:42 AM 2/11/04 “This is gonna be fun. I'm really looking forward to learning something...” 11:21:30 AM 2/11/04 “Oh yea, only 4-5 teaspoons of HEET or denatured can be used as fuel. Everyone uses the same fuel.” 11:21:54 AM 2/11/04 “OMG...LOL...gotta love those engineers....LOL.....” 11:22:19 AM 2/11/04 “I use Heet. Cheapest source of methanol I've found...” 11:24:36 AM 2/11/04 “Yall need to use ethanol to spice up the party.” 11:27:31 AM 2/11/04 I know 212 is boiling.... “I said 211 because the digital temp I have lags a little from the true boil.” 11:27:35 AM 2/11/04 “Leave it to a fookin' engineer...” 11:30:10 AM 2/11/04 “SS - when you showin' up?” 11:31:10 AM 2/11/04 “dayhiker - probably very late Friday.” 11:34:24 AM 2/11/04 “"Yall need to use ethanol to spice up the party." dayhiker 11:27:31 AM 02/11/04 Oh yeah. Like we did at Savage???” 11:35:18 AM 2/11/04 “Something like that.” 11:37:18 AM 2/11/04 “OMG!!!” 11:38:27 AM 2/11/04 “Only difference is folks need to wait until camp to pop the top. The hike in comes close to a drop off a time or two. Combine that with a lack of a real trail and it'd be best to be sober on the way in.” 11:44:52 AM 2/11/04 “Too bad I'll be hiking up in Georgia that weekend :(” 12:28:10 PM 2/11/04 A Newbee wants in! “I was just introduced to the pepsi can stove on the Ocala 3 trip but I am feeling a bit froggy and want in to this compition. I will not be able to be there but would am wondering if Jerbear would represent me in Proxy? Ill send my entry down via UPS or something. What ya think Jer? Have we come up with a clearification on the rules? I a reading that it will be fastest boil with least amount of fuel using a normal packing pan and any windscreen? It this for bragging rights or for Libations around the fire. I like Crazy Mikes style. Scotch is good.... Stovestomper Look out.... I have a mean machine.... How about a rule that stove can not weigh over one OZ. Some of the Druggies in the bunch surely have a set of pocket scales LOL ...” 8:57:22 PM 2/12/04 “why does that sorta offend me??? am I being too sensitive??? or maybe too protective of my TT friends...???? GRRRRRRR” 9:19:36 PM 2/12/04
