And so once again I am too antsy over FYAO in 36 hours to concentrate in class. My groups have all handed in their projects and I now have correcting up my wazoo.

A young colleague, a Phys. Ed. teacher, got a Sex Ed. and Morals class this year (no matter how bad I feel I just remind myself that I don't have to teach Sex Ed. and think, 'Just how bad can it be?') and he's showing them 'Bowling for Columbine'. I dragged nmy class over to watch it, having heard it was good. Well, what a pile of absolute crap - no I'm not going to type IMHO.

You can pehaps imagine that it's even more ridiculous dubbed into French. Some people who don't speak a lot of English and don't get a chance to actually meet Americans will swallow it whole. A lot of people really believe that America is like what you see on TV and in films.

I'm almost ashamed that my cousin founded Atlantis Films (it's distributed by Alliance-Atlantis). I am really glad it wasn't made in Canada or by Canadians.

Luckily there's a pooter in the class and I could vent here.

We aren't like what you see on TV?

I wouldn't know because I haven't gone out in a few years.

Hmmm, I'd have to go with The Lawrence Welk Show meets 77 Sunset Strip.

But lyra, that would mean that you would have been married to Dennis Rodman at one point in your life.

Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Well so far, I haven't seen any of those shows.

I would like to live the Charmed show. I would love to go back in time to when I was 24 and wear one of those outfits to work and have people just talk to me like I was wearing a coat.

Okay, something more up your alley, I wish my life was...Friends, where 6 relatively low paid friends, 3 of whom are unusually good looking women, can afford $2500/month apartments and lounge around a coffee shop with no real problems.

I don't know. In real life, a few of those people would provoke their "friends" to kill them.

Well, the bell rang an I calmed down. Actually I thought the ending was at least thought provoking. I have often complained about the culture of fear in the mass media.

Up here, now that fewer people are smoking and the anti smoking people who made a good living from government grants are calling obesity the smoking of the new century. The anti drinking and driving people concerned about the dramatic drop in alcohol related car accidents have mounted a campaign to lower the blood alcohol limit from o,08 to 0,05 to use their advertising budget and demand more.

But I digress from backpacking. Did I mention I'm HOOOOOOORNEEEEEE over FYAO IV?

Ya know? (There I go thinking again.) The McKenzie Brothers and Dudley Doright are pretty much how we Canadians see ourselves. Maybe self-image is a large part of who we all are (maybe? duh). Rent 'Canadian Bacon'.
